OK, thanks for explaining.

He's a RFA after this year if I remember correctly. Not sure he's going to sign a team-friendly 4 year deal as I assume he'll try to find some team who will give him minutes.
I doubt minutes will be a priority, since he’ll know the Celtics are matching basically any reasonable offer. The RFA market for these types of guys never gets too hot, since it’s hard to be high enough on them to give an offer that makes their home team blink.

For that reason, it’s more likely than not that his contract ends up decently team-friendly, since no one wants to waste cap space on a guy who is getting snap-matched.

The really interesting question is whether he shows enough that you want him on your playoff roster. I can absolutely see some cases where an extra PG is important, even if just for a short-term injury.

Brad has shown zero interest in ever playing Poirier to this point, so I’m guessing he’d be the odd man out if it comes to that. The team has probably filed him as salary ballast at this point.

Langford scored 10 in the 3rd and grabbed 2 boards. 6/10, 0/2 for 12 points after 3 in 17 minutes.

Looked like Langford did land on someone and twisted his ankle. The guy has had concerningly bad injury luck.

I think it's the same ankle he hurt already this season. Looked pretty ugly in the video, but looks mean pretty little, I think. It seems like he can barely go a game without getting injured. Must be frustrating for the kid.

It's weird because, aside from the thumb, I don't think he was particularly injury-prone prior? Really odd, and might just be one of those bad strings of luck.

And this is why the G League tells you absolutely nothing about bigs.

VP went 6-9 from the field, 1/1 from the line with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. 1 turnover. I don't know how accurate the boxscore is because I'm not sure how you get 14 points on 6 2 point FGs and 1 FT. Looks like he had a pretty decent game from the boxscore though.

Some free throws in the G-league are worth 2 points; you get one 2 point free throw for a shooting foul.

I'm not sure the G league tells you much about anyone. We get all excited about Waters' numbers there, but there are other compete non-prospects who are lighting it up as well. Obviously, doing well is better than not doing well. But, the level of competition doesn't seem very high.

It's a good place to help develop rookies that are minutes challenged in the NBA.
NBA teams get very little on-court practice time during the season and non-playing rookies get less attention at the NBA level. It also helps rookies get them familiar with the teams' system.

Since the Celtics have 7 rookies on their 17 man roster there is interest.

Just look at how the Toronto Raptors developed their roster: A lot of their players spent time in the G League, as did their coach.

I'm not excited about Waters because of his G-League numbers. I'm excited because he looked great when he got onto an NBA court. A small part of that is that he seems a lot more confident launching 3s, so in that sense I guess I'm glad he's up launching in Maine.

Other than that, I'd prefer to see him on the Celtics, but I understand the roster and contract and planning constraints.

The battling crustaceans were back at it tonight, and lost.

Romeo and Tacko did not play, but Waters and Poirier did.

Waters = 18 points, 11 assists, 3 steal, 5 TO in 36 minutes. he shot 6-18, including 3-8 from 3 point land.

Poirier = 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks in 27 minutes. he shot 5 for 9.

And as mentioned above, Brown had his entire career in one game and scored 43 points.

Is Romeo still hurt? What’s Tacko’s deal?

Ask and ye shall receive. An update!!! And only one day late. Yesterday the fabulous Red Claws pinched the heck out of Iowa and racked up another win, 127 to 121.

Romeo and Tacko are indeed back in action and Edwards joined in the victory. Here are some stats for the baby Celtics...

Waters
27 minutes, 8 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds. He shot 4-7 and 0-2 from 3 point range.

Fall
14 minutes, 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. He was 5-8, but 2 for 2 in FT. That is a good step forward and puts him at 69.2% for the year.

Romeo oh Romeo
18 minutes, 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block. he shot 3-9 and 1-3 for 3 pointers.

The statistical star, once again, was Yante Maten.
31 minutes, 26 points, 16 rebounds, with 2 steals. he shot 10-18 and 1-2 from 3 point land. He has looked good in a number of games in terms of numbers. He is 6'7" and plays center.

Maten shows us how much stock we should put in these G League stats.

But still, Romeo and Tacko are back!!!!

He had a really good college career, capped it as Co-PoY in the SEC along with Grant Williams two years ago, wouldn’t have been a shock if he was drafted. It’s not like he’s some random scrub.

No beef with Maten, but he's a classic 4A hoopist. He's a tweener like Grant except without the overabundance of smarts and otherworldly strength.

Yep, exactly. Undersized PFs who can produce at nearly every level except the NBA are a dime a dozen and need an elite skill/smarts to be anything other than replacement level. From what I recall of Maten, he has a good midrange game, but this ain’t Brandon Bass’s NBA anymore, so I don’t think that’s gonna cut it. But he’s very much a guy who’ll eat at the G level. I kinda love those guys. Probably a remnant of fond childhood memories of Lou Roe.

Well, Montrezl Harrell is an undersized pf without perimeter skills, although Harrell has that otherworldly 7-4 wingspan (Maten's is 7-1).

They're back and they are still winning! They beat Grand Rapids 108-103.

The Crustaceans looked good and all the baby Celtics played. Here are some stats:

Waters in 31 minutes had 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 assists. He shot 8-8 FT and 3-4 on three pointers.

Edwards was at least as good in his 32 minutes. 28 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and SIX steals. A couple of them looked like he has learned some lessons from Marcus Smart as he tore the ball away from people. He shot 9-18 in all and 4-8 from three point territory.

Romeo made another injury free appearance. Baby steps. In 19 minutes he has ZERO points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 TO. He was 0-5 from the field. Sigh.

Fall also played. In 21 minutes, he had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks. He was 2-5 from the field and 1-2 in FT.

Edwards scored 23 last night on 10/20, 1/8, 1/1 shooting, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 TO in 40 minutes.
Waters scored 27 on 11/20, 3/9, 1/2 shooting, 2 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals, 2 TO in 37 minutes.

Getting lots of burn. 2 players were out with the flu and Fall and Langford aren't with the team.

I am a bit late, but our lovable lobsters won once more, pinching the Delaware Blue Coats 128 to 125.

Both Edwards and Waters played, and neither was particularly efficient. Their stats are:

Edwards:
36 minutes, 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, on 8-21 shooting and 3-13 from three point land.

Waters:
37 minutes, 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. He shot an equally embarrassing 5-17 and 1-5 from three point range.

Don’t know if it’s posted anywhere but it’s of interest to Celtics fans.....Max Strus tore his ACL last night.
