Any opinion on Dell XPS13 (seeming reviewers champ) vs the contender Asus Zenbook UX305UA?
Both seem pretty solid. Dell with better options (touch screen) and commensurate bigger price tag.
To be work machine (simple stuff), also used at home. Every day, all day is primary scenario.

My ThinkPad T520 (with upgraded 500gb SSD HD) has to be getting on 8 years old... runs amazing, but weighs about 36 pounds with 46 minute battery life.

Given the discrepancy between user and reviewer opinions on the dell XPS 12, I'm hesitant to give them much credibility. In my prior lab, the dell XPS 13 stood up to rhesus macaque use, so I can vouch for its durability. Haven't used the Asus before so I can't give any help there, sorry.

I have the Asus UX303LA. It's a very high quality laptop and I would definitely purchase another one. The build quality is excellent (brushed metal body, good keyboard) and I've had no issues with it whatsoever.

I would describe it as rugged as far as laptops go. It gets thrown in a backpack with no case or sleeve a few times a week and it's held up fine.

Great to hear, those that I've seen are all lower price models that have average build quality, I'd say equal to 'standard' HP or Lenovo, but not Thinkpad. Their value proposition is undeniable.
