Mike Glennon for Tyler Wilson PLUS Blaine Gabbert.

Dude, even an idiot knows that 2 is better than 1.

Think about it.

Hey Marty Hurney, I want the whole the PuPuPlatter. so no deal unless you include Fitzpatrick and three first round picks.

you know who is ranked 6 best in every single Pro Football Focus cornerback stat signature stat? Xavier Rhodes. Looks like a top 30 cb so far.

I'm shocked at that. He's supposed to be a tweener without top speed or play recognition to be a fringe 1st rounder. Had a great combine and boosted his stock.

Nice pickup there SMUS.

I was going to live by the Giants and die by the Giants. Eli and David Wilson made my bed, without any fucking sheets, and now I have to lay on this crusty mattress.

That's not the scouting report I got or KFP... Mayock had a different evaluation too. He had a good combine but he was on the board way before then because of his physical corner play. I am not sure you have that right.

Edit: thanks for the compliment though.

I bet he looks awesome in your team practices, too. But don't be fooled...that's what we experts like to call the Blaine Ryan FitzGabbert Effect.

ETA: Congrats on some actual QB stats this week.

Not a good week - just a 7.1 overall PFF grade. Probably looking at a 2-2 record. Quarter-mark report:

The Good:
LG Kory Lichtensteiger - currently PFF's #2-rated G, with a +10.0 rating
LT Anthony Castonzo - after a disastrous -4.2 in week 1, he's graded +4.0 or better every week since. Currently the #7 tackle at +9.2 (#4 LT)
HB Giovani Bernard - #4 per PFF (+5.4), #5 in WPA (.30), #6 in EPA (7.4)
DT Barry Cofield - #5 in pass rush for DT per PFF, #9 overall (+7.1); #2 in WPA, #4 in EPA among DT
LB David Harris - #1 rated ILB per PFF (+6.8)
Honorable mention: OT Don Barclay, P Michael Koenen, DT Haloti Ngata, OLB Whitney Mercilus

The Bad:
QB Colin Kaepernick - slow start with a -9.4 PFF grade (33rd) and 23rd in EPA
C Peter Konz - 31st-ranked C (-5.9)
S Kenny Vaccaro - shown versatility and play-making ability, but has been inconsistent (-4.8 PFF grade, 77th among S)
TE Lance Kendricks - 32nd in WPA, 48th in PFF
Dishonorable mention: S Ryan Clark, CB Derek Cox

The Ugly:
DT Jesse Williams - on IR
WR Michael Crabtree - on PUP
CB Stephon Gilmore - hurt, hasn't played yet
OLB Bruce Irvin - suspended
DL Richard Seymour - unsigned, probably retired
WR Jacoby Jones - only played one game
DB Brandon Harris - only played 5 snaps on D

Let's check our team out at the 1/4 mark:

Offense:
Quarterback: Blaine Gabbert moved out of the bottom 5 in PFF QB rankings you cocksucking motherfuckers! WWOOOOOOOOOOO!

Who's ranked lower? Oh, you know...Bradford, Dalton, Kaepernick, Flacco, and Manuel. Four of those guys were picked about 28 rounds before Gabbert. Realistically, I still think that Fitzpatrick is an average/slightly below average QB and would be performing as such with this team.

I'm not as downtrodden on this position as I was a few weeks ago. it's certainly not good - or even close to average - but it isn't the death sentence it looked like in week 1.

Running Back: Demarco Murray is the 6th ranked RB, Moreno is 20th. Considering we needed a focal point of our offense, I'll take that production from an 11th round and 28th round pick.

Wide Receivers: Dwayne Bowe is 69th overall, Greg Jennings is 30th. Although Jennings is docked some points for blocking and is ranked 19th for pure "pass receiving".

Ryan Swopes is dead. I think. Aldrick Robinson hasn't seen the field.

Acceptable, although definitely not good.

Offensive Line: OK here. 3rd ranked and 5th ranked tackles. 21st/43rd ranked guards. Worst ranked center on the entire planet.

Still, having 2 of the best 5 tackles in football is amazing and would do wonders to help boost the others rank.

Defense:
Front Four: Overall? Pretty fucking awesome. 9th and 21st ranked defensive ends (2nd and 12th in sacks). 5th ranked defensive tackle. Glenn Dorsey is ranked 7th out of players with 25% of snaps. this unit us awesome.

Linebackers: Willis is good, but hurt. Manny Lawson has picked up his game and is ranked 12th at OLB. Arthur Brown has also been hurt, but is starting to get onto the field. When these guys are healthy, they're also a top unit.

Cornerbacks: Xavier Rhodes has played very well. Webb looks to be shaking off the rust, but isn't playing fantastic right now. Richard Marshall was really bad, but has since started to play better.

OK showing, but not great. I certainly have hope that they'll improve going forward.

Safety: Clemons has come back to earth and Cyprien has had some serious growing pains at safety. Tashuan Gipson, who we got in the 31st round, has been a revelation though. He's a borderline top 10 safety right now. He and Clemons form a pretty good tandem back there.

Overall:
This team is pretty much exactly what we thought. This defense, while slightly under performing expectation, is still really fucking good. On offense, we may have one of the best running games with a top 5 running back and a very good offensive line. The problem is that teams can stack 8 in the box, although I think Fitzpatrick has the ability to keep teams honest enough to prevent that from happening too often.

If I had to wager a guess on our record:

Jnai Dolphins: Think our defense eats Matt Barkley/Christian Ponder and an overrated T-Richardson for breakfast. Linebackers are good, but defense looks pretty juicy in the secondary.

Nomario Ravens: If Kaepernick turns it around, he probably wins this game. But with Kaep playing like shit, some unproven running backs, no Crabtree, James Jones playing poorly...I don't see how the Ravens score enough points to win. Lots of runs over the tackle/TE, and play action to a pretty weak secondary beats the Ravens. We probably take a bit of a beating up the middle since Gradkowski sucks, but our guards (especially Asomoah) are solid. We'd win. I think. Injuries/bad seasons really hurt this team.

Sleepy Jose Vikings: Toss up, although I think we probably lose this game. Pretty solid defense against or pretty poor offense, and Palmer/Manuel may be good enough to help Vikes hang low 20's on our defense.

SoxFan Bengals: He has no running game, but his defense is probably good enough to keep us in the teens, and that isn't beating Tom Brady.

Pessimist says this team is 1-3, Optimist says the team is 3-1. Probably end up 2-2 quarter of the way through the season.

Edit: I lied. Glenn Dorsey has played well and gotten time. Ranked 7th out of players with 25% of snaps.

Week 2 was my worst week, too. I think you guys probably win, despite non-existent QB play.

There's light at the end of the tunnel for my squad, fortunately. Coples is back, Irvin will be back, Gilmore, Jones (Jacoby, BTW, not James), and hopefully Crabtree will be back later.

I notice you left TE analysis off your progress report ... but I get why you did that.

Ha.

I actually did it because I forgot about them.

That's easy to do with our tight ends.

SO let me get this straight? I writeup and do all the research for you over gchat last night... you post it and not even a hat tip goes my way? I see how it is /endlovers'quarrel.

JKJK.

Honestly once Kelce gets back I think you'll see a TE with good performance. He had a very good pre-season and OTC's.

Gino Gradkowski might be a guy we either cut or demote. He is getting consistently beat in all facets of the game.

Alright, I'm going to keep this short, mainly because my team has been a disaster so far.

Offense:

The Good:
Jordan Cameron, #1 rated TE according to PFF with a +8.1 rating. A guy I took late in the draft, he's easily been my best offensive skill player.
Zach Strief, #3 rated RT, with +9.5 rating. After being hurt last yr, Strief has come back to provide extremely strong pass protection while also grading out positively in the run game.
Larry Warford, #2 rated RG, +7.5 rating. Didn't think he was going to win a starting spot, but he did and has made that decision look very good. Strong in both passing and running so far.
Mike Pouncey, #5 overall C, +5.5. If Clady didn't get hurt, I'd have one hell of an offensive line right now.

The Bad:
Christian Ponder, QB. -4.5 overall rating. I'd start Johnny Manziel right now if I could.
Trent Richardson, RB. -1.8. Hasn't done much, but getting out of CLE has to help.
Chris Ivory, RB. -2.9. He's been a disaster so far.
Muhammad Sanu, WR. -2.6. I've watched him a few times and think this rating is a little low, but PFF doesn't like what he's done so far. Here's to hoping Keenan Allen emerges in SD.

Defense:

The Good:
Michael Johnson, DE. +13.6. Absolutely dominant so far, esp. against the run. Throw in 2 sacks, 6 QB hits and 10 hurries and you're looking at PFF's #2 overall 4-3 DE.
Star Lotulelei, DT. +7.7. A rookie who isn't playing like one. He's been great against the run.
Parys Haralson, OLB. +2.2. For a supplemental pick, he's my top rated LB.

The Bad:
ILB- Carlos Dansby (-3.8) can't cover anyone and Donald Butler (-5.6) can't stop the run make. Not a great combination.
DJ Swearinger, SS. -3.0, hasn't been able to pick up the slack while Ed Reed was out.
Dee Milliner, CB. -2.0, PFF has not been impressed with his cover skills so far.

My team is really young and my QB's are awful, so I wasn't expecting a strong season. I also lost my 1st round pick (Clady) and starting TE (D. Allen) for the season due to injury. Trent Richardson and Clay Matthews haven't done much. The only thing I have going for me so far is strong play from both my offensive and defensive lines, so that's a start, I guess. This is going to be a LONG season.

Teddy Bridgewater will be a Chief...oh yes he will.

So how does it work if I have no actual NFL Players at a position?

What sucks for KFP and me is that our team is probably good enough everywhere else that we're not going to get a chance to land a Manziel or Bridgewater. Perhaps if we introduce trading we'll find a partner.

First, I agree. Second, I really wanted to make a "stop comparing yourself to [very good but not great GM/coach who couldn't find a QB]" joke but I'm drawing a blank. Suggestions? With a real QB, you guys would be frightening, especially in the division.

I cant take all the (dis)credit.  QB was picked long before I got there.  But I think this puts me squarely as the Teddy Bridgewater favorite.

Just my .02 but we should probably refrain from talking RFP in non-RFP threads. Kinda like talking about your fantasy team anywhere but the Fantasy forum - no one not in cares.

Your team is also not terrible enough to be totally DQed by the lack of a QB. I don't think any one team is a "favorite" for the first pick. Injuries and ineffectiveness are taking their toll on everyone.

Plus Freeman was better for 3 weeks than WilsonFitzGabbert.

Ozzie from like 2000-2009?
SD in 1998 (the year they had an amazing D but terrible offense)?
2006 Bears?

That's an interesting question - what were some teams that were really good but lacked a QB. Those are the ones I could think of just off the top of my head.

Quick update on the Vikings:

PFF is not very high on any of our offensive skill position players not named Carson Palmer and Bruce Miller.  When one of the bright spots of your offense is the FB, you might have a problem.  From the limited views I've gotten from RedZone of my players, they don't seem to appear quite so dismal to the eye - but they certainly have not panned out much.  Bryce Brown has seen only limited action thus far and has not appeared to do much with his opportunities, and Mike Williams is likely being held back by the circus that is TB at the moment.   The biggest issue here, though, is the absolute black hole on the left side of my O-Line.  Jeff Allen was doing well at LG before he left the game in week 3 with a groin injury and has yet to see any action since.  Emergency LT David Quessenberry has not seen any PT from the Texans at all, so I can't really evaluate much there.  On the right side - Kevin Zeitler is looking really good at RG, and DJ Fluker seems to be adjusting to the NFL game nicely.  Hopefully the two of them can lock down that side of my line for years to come so I can address the left.

ST are a bright spot, as Zeurlein is doing well, and McCluster seems to be dangerous on PR duties.

Defensively we've actually underperformed as well, per PFF.  Wake got off to a scorching start, but played poorly in the next 2 games and sat out week 4 with a knee injury.  We desperately need him back in form soon.  We're also probably forced into playing Wake standing up as an OLB in a 3-4, since Tank Carradine is on the 49ers Reserve/NFI list and it's still up in the air if he'll even play this year at all.  That pushes Chris Canty to the other DE spot, and would make Wake the smallest player on the line by about 70lbs.  Instead we'll push Dareus to the other end and have Hankins play alone in the middle.  Dareus has picked it up after a slow start - but Hankins has yet to see the field with a NYG team that has lots of DT depth.  A real team with full rosters would probably play Wake in a hybrid role - sometimes standing and sometimes on the line.  I can't really speculate how we'd handle that for our purposes, but suffice to say that as long as he's healthy, Wake will dictate the alignment of our front 7, with Hightower sliding inside next to Cushing if he plays on the edge.  Speaking of LB - Cushing, Hightower, and KJ Wright have been uneven at best per PFF, but I'm still pretty bullish on that unit going forward.

The secondary is probably the brightest spot on the team, anchored by Alterraun Verner - PFF's No. 1 ranked CB.  He's tied for the NFL lead in interceptions, has a ridiculous 12.9 QBR against, and has stayed on the field for over 95% of the Titans defensive snaps.  Rookie Johnathan Banks has played well on the opposite side, and has been consistently okay other than being picked on by Tom Brady and NE in Week 3.  Considering he's starting opposite Revis in real life - the fact that he hasn't been abused every week by teams is a good sign IMO.  Leodis McKelvin has done a serviceable job filling in until we get our first round pick Casey Hayward back (hopefully by Week 6).  SS TJ Ward has looked very good as well, including the game sealing pick-6 last night against Buffalo.  FS Chris Conte is the lone trouble spot in the secondary.

I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to speculate on what our record would be through this, our Bye week, so I'll leave that alone.  Suffice to say that I think we'd be a feisty team, and would liken us to the real life Browns.  Our offense is not dependable, but it wouldn't be shocking to see them put up 30 if the stars aligned.  And if our defense all shows up to play we'd be a tough enough out that I think we can steal a game or two here or there.  Then again - I should probably be hoping to finish near the bottom and try and secure a Top 10 pick in next year's draft to try and fill some of our substantial holes.

Again - I always welcome thoughts or feedback, either here or via PM.  The ability to learn more about this game from some very knowledgeable people is one of the best parts about this exercise.

where the darn libs live
We have four players with a positive PFF rating over 1.0 on offense.
Demar Dotson, RT
TJ Lang, LG
Brian De La Puente, C
Arian Foster, RB

We have five players with a positive PFF rating over 1.0 on defense.
Derrick Morgan, DE1
Brian Robison, DE2
Mike Martin, DT
Chris Harris, CB1
JJ Wilcox, FS

Then we have Gost and Shawn Powell as the K and P, both having very good seasons.

This team sucks.  We have too many rookies and a few players who will never see a snap this year (Adrian Wilson, for one).

Everything hinges on the rookies getting more reps and getting better and guys like Dalton not sucking.

My Ravens did not have a good week 5. Best PFF score on offense was Kaepernick with a +0.7; best on D was Ngata with +1.1. David Akers is the week's MVP with +1.2. Still have Konz, Coples, and Harris playing tonight, but I'm looking at 2-3.

And for the cherry on top, Harris (-5.4), Coples (-4.4), and Konz (-1.5) were all strongly negative, too. Cumulative PFF score for the week: -25.1. My squad definitely lost by 30+. Well, except I was playing the Dolphins, and I don't think ElCab can actually field a full offense at this point. So I probably only lost by like two touchdowns.

Harris drops from the #1-rated ILB to 18th (Brandon Spikes is #1, BTW, including a positive coverage grade), Coples is now 37th of 39 among 3-4 OLB, and Konz is only ahead ahead of Robert Turner and the piece of shit KFP / SMU drafted.

I might need to get myself some PFF access this season, if only to see if my team has been as good as I think it is.

Offense:  Rivers has shown that he still has something left in the tank, and although my team doesn't have the elite offensive talent that some other teams might have, I've been moderately impressed with what I've seen from Heath Miller, Golden Tate, Rod Streater, and Jeff Cumberland.  On the other hand, the injuries to Malcom Floyd and Ahmad Bradshaw hurt, and Mikel Leshoure hasn't done much at all.  Losing LT Jared Veldheer, the projected center piece of my offensive line, is tough, but the rest of my line has been solid (I'm guessing, I really have no idea).

Defense:  The real strength of my team.  The defensive line has been a revelation, as Jason Hatcher has broken out in his age 31 season with 5.0 sacks, and Jurrell Casey has added 3.0 himself.  Jerrell Freeman has impressed as a Colts linebacker, combining with Perry Riley and Lavonte David for a very productive LB group in the young, athletic mold I was looking for.  The secondary has been hit and miss, as Patrick Peterson is continuing to be the shutdown corner I hoped he would, and DeAngelo Hall hasn't been bad himself on the other side.  Morgan Burnett has battled injuries at safety, and Usama Young hasn't gotten much play for the Raiders, but I think he could hold down my other safety spot.

Overall, I think my team has been decent so far.  I'd like to see Tate and Streater step up and become WR1s, and Leshoure/Da'Rel Scott show they can be more than a third string RB.  But I think my defense has done enough to keep my team in some games, and Rivers hasn't done much to screw me over, so I'll take it.

Can I just cut Matt Barkely? What a career debut he had yesterday, huh?

Somehow managed a -5.3 PFF rating in only 20 pass attempts.  11 for 20 (55%), 129 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT

My squad needs Bridgewater/Hundley/Manziel in the worst way.

Okay - finally had some time to use PFF to grade out the division. I punched in all the offensive players below, starting with the QB:

[tablegrid= QB Ratings ]Team QB PFF Seoul Steelers (SSF) Russell Wilson 9.6 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Tom Brady -4.2 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Colin Kaepernick -8.4 Austin Browns (KFP) Tyler Wilson* -11.6 [/tablegrid]
One caveat for using a PFF grade is that a player that does not have any stats for 2013 is tough to grade (0.0 represent an average, aka Sam Bradford).

So fair or not, I took the worst rated player for at least 50% snaps played and applied that grade. Those players have an * next to the name. In AFCN, that player is KFP's Tyler Wilson, who gets EJ Manuel's -11.6 grade. Coincidentally, that's not too far off from his backup QB Gabbert, with a -11.2 grade.

So the clear winner here is my Steeler's Wilson, who has had a solid season so far. SF121's Brady obviously not playing up to par, and although SN's Kaepernick has a lower PFF grade, very few teams wouldn't be happy to have him on their squad.

So far, so good.

Now the receiving corp, including a TE.

[tablegrid= Receivers Ratings ]Team WR1 PFF WR2 PFF WR3   TE1 PFF TOTAL Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Victor Cruz 4.4 Kendall Wright 4.9 Steve Smith 3.1 Levine Toilolo -2.0 10.4 Austin Browns (KFP) Dwayne Bowe 1.2 Greg Jennings 0.5 Aldrick Robinson 1.0 Jacob Tamme 1.0 3.7 Seoul Steelers (SSF) T.Y. Hilton 1.8 Kenny Stills -0.3 Josh Boyce 0.4 Coby Fleener 1.6 3.5 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Michael Crabtree* -7.0 Hakeem Nicks -1.2 Jacoby Jones 1.5 Lance Kendricks -2.2 -8.9 [/tablegrid]
SF is the clear winner here, with a tough threesome with Cruz, Wright, and Smith who've performed well all season. SN's Ravens suffer from the early injury to their #1 receiver Crabtree, and Nicks has not made up the ground.

I am a bit disappointed with Hilton's numbers so far, and the complete non-emergence of Boyce.

For KFP's Swope, who also has not played a snap, I simply halved the IR penalty as a #3 WR. This is purely arbitrary, so if any of the GMs would like me to plugin a supplemental choice's grade or suggest another way of calculating the impact let me know.

* Thanks SMU -- I updated the chart, which puts the Browns slightly above the Steelers now.

Running backs:

[tablegrid= RB Ratings ]Team RB1 PFF RB2 PFF FB PFF TOTAL Cleveland Ravens (SN) Bernard Pierce -2.5 Giovani Bernard 8.0 Dion Sims -2.0 3.5 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Andre Ellington 5.6 BenJarvus Green-Ellis -4.0 James Casey -0.4 1.2 Austin Browns (KFP) DeMarco Murray 5.5 Knowshon Moreno -0.3 Travis Kelce -5.4 -0.2 Seoul Steelers (SSF) C.J. Spiller -10.6 Ben Tate -0.6 Marcel Reece -1.6 -12.8 [/tablegrid]
Ouch. What I thought would be a total strength has become a black hole, thanks to the RL Buffalo's total inability to use Spiller, combined with a series of minor injuries for my 3rd round pick. And my top backup Tate has had a disappointing season as well, not having the breakout season I envisioned. Raiders also have inexplicably played Reece in a blocking role, with barely any touches in each of the their games. All that adds up to a crippling -12.8 for the group.

One of the better picks out of this group is SF121's Ellington, even though Niners have been very careful to limit his carries. However, SN wins this group with his once-and-future superstar Giovani Bernard, the highest rated of all backs chosen.

And the uglies upfront:

[tablegrid= OL Ratings ]Team LT PFF LG PFF C PFF RG   RT   TOTAL Austin Browns (KFP) Michael Roos 7.2 Chad Rinehart -2.3 Gino Gradkowski -13.6 Jon Asamoah 6.6 Cordy Glenn 12.0 9.9 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Anthony Castonzo 8.8 Korey Lichtensteiger 9.7 Peter Konz -10.8 Alex Boone -1.1 Anthony Davis 1.3 7.9 Seoul Steelers (SSF) Tyron Smith 5.7 Amini Silatolu 4.3 Ted Larsen -9.1 Jordan Mills -18.5 Kelechi Osemele -4.9 -22.5 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Mike Adams -9.0 Mike Iupati -1.7 Nick McDonald* -13.6 Brandon Moore* -16.9 Phil Loadholt 4.7 -36.5 [/tablegrid]

Another case of grade penalties doing a number on the final ratings, with SF121's former Pat Nick McDonald and the sudden retired Brandon Moore not playing a snap for the Bengals.

Our Steelers suffer from the absolutely horrid play of Jordan Mills, although in RL he's playing right tackle rather than the RG I've plugged him into.

SN is flexing his muscle again with a solid bookend tackles Glenn and Roos, and wins the group. BTW, is this the worst group of centers in all of RF draft league?

Alright, so here is the near mid-season tally for all the offenses in our division:

[tablegrid= Aggregated Offense Ratings ]Team TOTAL Austin Browns (KFP) 1.8 Cleveland Ravens (SN) -5.9 Seoul Steelers (SSF) -22.2 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) -29.1 [/tablegrid]
KFP & SMU_Sox's Austin Browns are in front offensively, with the only positive PFF total grade so far.

There's a clear separation between the top two (Browns & SN's Ravens) and the bottom two (my Steelers and SF121's Bengals), due to my RBs poor play and 2 IR/retirement on SF121's OL.

And now onto defenses. First up are the defensive tackles:

[tablegrid= DT Ratings ]Team DE1 PFF DE2 PFF DT/NT1 PFF DT/NT2 PFF TOTAL Austin Browns (KFP) Charles Johnson 5.5 Carlos Dunlap 4.3 Kyle Williams -5.0 Glenn Dorsey 9.2 14.0 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Corey Liuget 0.0 Cameron Jordan 18.1 Athyba Rubin 2.5 Armond Armstead* -11.7 8.9 Seoul Steelers (SSF) Derek Wolfe -9.3 Alex Carrington -3.0 Akiem Hicks -2.5 Roy Miller -8.8 -23.6 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Quinton Coples -9.2 Richard Seymour* -8.9 Haloti Ngata 4.1 Jesse Williams* -11.7 -25.7 [/tablegrid]
The surprise here has to be the low rating that Coples has, but that may be due to his transition into a LB role rather than as a DT. Semi-retirement of Seymour also hurts here.

As for the Steelers, injury bugs hit hard -- first to Wolfe and then to Carrington. Roy Miller has been limited due to knee tendinitis as well.

The winner of the group is the Austin Browns, especially with the superb season by Glenn Dorsey -- that's quite a feat as he's trying the NT position for the first time.

Onto the linebackers:

[tablegrid= LB Ratings ]Team ILB1 PFF ILB2 PFF OLB1 PFF OLB2 PFF TOTAL Seoul Steelers (SSF) Vontaze Burfict 2.5 Dannell Ellerbe -3.4 Justin Houston 18.2 Junior Galette 7.0 24.3 Austin Browns (KFP) Patrick Willis 2.5 David Bass Jr. 1.1 Arthur Brown 1.7 Manny Lawson 6.1 11.4 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Stephen Tulloch 0.6 David Harris -0.2 Bruce Irvin 4.2 James Harrison 4.2 8.8 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Kiko Alonso 5.5 Josh Evans -6.8 LaMarr Woodley 6.3 Ahmad Brooks 1.5 6.5 [/tablegrid]

Finally, I managed to do something else right other than picking a QB (thanks to the relatively high pick).

Justin Houston has been a stud, leading RL Chiefs to a 7-0 record. Galette has been a nice addition on the other side as well. Only Ellerbe has been a letdown.

Bengals, however, may have picked up the defensive rookie of the year in Kiko Alonso. In all, this may be the best group of linebackers in the entire league.

And the corners & safeties:

[tablegrid= Secondary Ratings ]Team CB1 PFF CB2 PFF CB3 PFF FS PFF SS PFF TOTAL Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Champ Bailey -1.6 Cary Williams -6.0 Dre Kirkpatrick -0.3 Antrel Rolle -4.4 William Moore 6.4 -5.9 Austin Browns (KFP) Lardarius Webb -2.1 Xavier Rhodes -1.8 Richard Marshall -4.8 Chris Clemons 2.0 Tashaun Gipson 0.2 -6.5 Seoul Steelers (SSF) Patrick Robinson -0.1 Tyrann Mathieu 5.4 D.J. Hayden -4.3 Reshad Jones -3.3 Mark Barron -6.8 -9.1 Cleveland Ravens (SN) Stephon Gilmore -3.4 Derek Cox -5.3 Corey Graham -2.0 Ryan Clark -3.3 Kenny Vaccaro -6.1 -20.1 [/tablegrid]

Generally not a stellar group, with disappointing plays all around. There are some bright spots -- rookie Xavier Rhodes looks like a player, and so does DJ Hayden.

With the Browns' taking a huge hit with Cyprien's poor play Browns replacing Cyprien with Gipson moves them up to the 2nd spot, but the winner is SF121's Bengals.

So, combining the DT, LB, and CB/S ratings, we got the following defensive rankings:

[tablegrid= Aggregate Defense Ratings ]Team TOTAL Austin Browns (KFP) 18.9 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) 9.5 Seoul Steelers (SSF) -8.4 Cleveland Ravens (SN) -37.0 [/tablegrid]

SN's Ravens fall behind the top 3 teams due to poor DT and secondary play. SF121's Bengals, who rated at the bottom in the offense aggregate score, is 2nd defensive team in the division bypassed by the Browns (with the adjusted secondary score).

Onto the special teamers:

[tablegrid= ST Ratings ]Team K PFF P PFF TOTAL Austin Browns (KFP) Robbie Gould 12.1 Bryan Anger 12.1 24.2 Seoul Steelers (SSF) Josh Brown 13.3 Brandon Fields 6.4 19.7 Cleveland Ravens (SN) David Akers 2.8 Michael Koenen 16.8 19.6 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) Caleb Sturgis 15.4 Drew Butler* -3.6 11.8 [/tablegrid]

Browns edge ahead on strengths of both Gould & Anger, while Bengals lag on Butler, who was cut (for RL Steelers to sign Mesko).

So where does this little exercise get us?

[tablegrid= Total Ratings ]Team Offense Defense ST Total Austin Browns (KFP) 1.8 18.9 2.4 23.1 Bengal Bay Bengals (SF121) -29.1 9.5 1.2 -18.4 Seoul Steelers (SSF) -22.2 -8.4 2.0 -28.6 Cleveland Ravens (SN) -5.9 -37.0 2.0 -40.9 [/tablegrid]

The chart above adds the offense and defense aggregate scores, plus 10% of the ST score. The penalty scores have a big impact on the overall ratings, fair or not, but so far Browns are the class of the division with positive scores in all 3 phases of the game.
