No, but that's a damn good idea. Thanks!

But in all seriousness... No - if McCown sucks, he sucks. And by sucks I mean loses the starting job mid-season for performance reasons. What's going to suck is when he goes 3-0 putting up monster numbers and then gets injured for 4 weeks. In those 4 weeks Glennon wins the starting job even when McCown comes back healthy. That'll be our luck, hah!

I'll jump in to keep things moving, only because I dont think Baka was going to take this guy (I was holding my breath for Evans in the first round before he took him).  I'm passing on some guys that I like, and I dont think will make it back around to me in order to fill a position of need.

Marquise Lee, WR, USC (and the real life Jacksonville Jaguars)

When he is healthy, you see that view a lot.  He was a monster as a freshman, putting up 73 receptions for 1,143 yards (15.7-yard average) and 11 touchdowns with 10 kickoff returns for 285 yards (28.5), including an 88-yard score against Washington.  His sophomore year he was probably the best WR in the country, with 118 catches for 1,721 yards (14.6) and 14 TDs.  Last year he suffered through some injuries, and was not nearly as productive.  He runs good routes but is also explosive and athletic.  He has to stay healthy, and he should be a good addition to our squad if he can.

I'm pleasantly surprised our next draftee fell. He's virtually the same size as Gronkowski and has almost identical combine results as Gronk. Given the mess at WR, I wanted to find someone who will control the middle of the field and could build a similar rapport with Brees as Graham. This is my best shot at this goal:

Kelvin Benjamin, WR, FSU

Struggled with this one a bit, but we'll add back to the pass rush with Demarcus LawrenceDE. I'll likely move Ziggy Ansah to LDE because he's a bit stronger and bigger.

We're a little top-heavy at DT right now, so we'll probably be active in the trade market at that position for anyone who's looking.

Pretty excited to be able to land a first-round talent this late in the second. The Ravens select Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State / real-life Broncos

Roby is as talented as any corner in this class. At 5'11" he's got good size, and his sub-4.4 40 time and great agility drills speak to his athletic gifts. He's got some rough edges to smooth out, but we can ease him in as a 5th or 6th DB. Ultimately, he can be my #2 CB opposite Stephon Gilmore. He's a physical run defender that will fit in well to the Ravens' secondary, where everyone plays with a chip on his shoulder.

All four of my picks (two stealing, two draft) have been on the defensive side of the ball. The injection of talent is going to improve the unit, especially in the passing game, where I've now added three speedy coverage players and a pass rusher.

Was deciding between him and Brock 19 picks ago. Needed an outside presence so I wasn't looking at Verrett and I decided to go with the lower ceiling player who has already proven himself.

Looking to continue to shore up our Front 7, the Packers select Ra'Shede Hageman. The man is talented as all hell. He just needs to grow up. Can someone PM jer for me? I'm stuck on mobile

I really love my Latimer pick.  I think playing with Peyton in Denver is only going to accelerate his development.  Yes, he's got the broken foot but hopefully that won't hold him back.  He's a big target (6-3).  We don't have that true #1 wideout, but between LaFell, Latimer and Beckham, there's some solid talent there, if it develops (and boy, it would be nice to see AJ Jenkins actually live up to his draft spot.

The San Diego Chargers select:

Deone Bucannon, S

I had four players I was looking at for this pick, but I love this guy and wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the best safety coming out of this rookie class.  He's bigger, stronger, and faster than Pryor or Dix, and is playing in a very good secondary in Arizona.  I have more pressing needs elsewhere but I just couldn't pass Deone up.

The Saints are going to stay on the defensive side of the ball, selecting DE Stephon Tuitt

Hoping he can recover quickly from his foot injury, keep the weight off, and return to the form he showed in his sophomore season. If so, he'll be a versatile piece for the defensive front.

Dolphins select WR Davante Adams from Fresno State/GB Packers.

We really wanted Jordan Matthews, but he was taken a few picks before we could pounce. But we're really happy with Adams as a fallback option. He'll be a great fit for the real life Packers and hopefully gives our squad a solid #2 WR with upside for more than that to compliment Keenan Allen.

With Allen and Adams on the outside, Andrew Hawkins in the slot and a TE combo of Dwayne Allen and Jordan Cameron, we're surrounding our QB's with more  weapons than we had last year. This also allows us to drop Muhammad Sanu down the depth chart to our #4 WR rather than the #2 role he had to play last year.

I obviously still need help on the oline but I'm not sure any of the picks available deserve to be taken here. I feel like I can piece together a decent line with some later picks maybe even as early as next round depending on who falls. I had two guys pegged here and I hoped at least one of them would fall. They both did so now I have to make a tough decision. Of course they're on different sides of the ball and they each represent an upgrade for me. The tough part is trying to figure out whether to go with need over BPA. The real world Pats have made it their MO to go BPA and I like what that strategy has accomplished I'm just not sure it's applicable here with our rosters lacking great depth. In saying that, I'm going to go the safe route and not make the flashy pick. I'll explain more when player B gets drafted.

The New England Patriots select Troy Niklas, TE Notre Dame

The 6'7" 270 lb beast is no doubt going to be one of the better blocking TE's in the league as early as next year. Where he's a little raw is in running routes, having only played TE for two years prior. He's a converted OLB who loves contact and loves playing a physical style. He has a large target radius and great hands so I can see him improving his receiving skills quickly. Since my line may be a little patchwork, having Niklas as an extra blocker is going to help immensely. This may be a little high for someone with his skillset but I love his upside and what he can bring to the Pats right now. If he can be a solid receiving threat he could be looked at as one of the best all-around TE's in the very near future.

It was difficult to pass up the other guy, but I think this is the smarter pick for the construction of my team at the moment.

With their next selection, the Sentinels select:

Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri

No, not that guy.  This guy:

This will be interesting, since the Panthers drafted him to pair him up with Greg Hardy.  And that's exactly what we did.  The weakest link of our front four was our right defensive end, and we're upgrading that position with this pick.  Last season teams could have just doubled both Hardy and Richardson, relied on winning the one-on-one battles with Fairley/Bowers, and picked on our secondary.  Tougher to do that now.  The knock on Ealy was that he was swallowed up in double teams.  He won't see many with this front four.

PM off to sf121.

EDIT: Oh , and Hardy might be going to jail. There's also that.

Nice pick mascho, he was the other guy I seriously debated on taking. I think he would have been insane in my d line as well but the lack of consistency was concerning as was the fact he dropped so far in the actual NFL draft. I thought the Panthers already had a good duo in Johnson and Hardy so I'm not sure how much time he'll see this coming year. Either way, IMO he was the best talent available.

Thanks ESC. I think he'll see some time, Mizzou dropped him inside on passing downs, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Carolina do the same.

Plus, Hardy could be going to jail....

The looming Hardy situation was pretty intriguing which is why it was difficult to pass on him. He could be a sub or he could be starting. I honestly don't see him going inside. His game is about quickness and I think he'd get swallowed up in the interior.

I was considering him as well as a Wimbley replacement but decided OLB was a bigger need with Mathis on the other side.

Whoops.

The Bears select S Jimmie Ward.

Bernard Pollard is approaching 30, and I like the 2-way ability Ward could bring me down the road.  I trust Baalke and Co. when it comes to drafting defensive talent, as well.

I have some other more glaring holes, but Ward's value was too good for me to pass up.

I'm pretty happy with how things ended up playing out, with Roby falling to me in the second round after nabbing Calvin Pryor in the first, but if I'd known Bucannon and Ward would both be available with my second-rounder I probably would have picked someone else at #14. Terrific value here with both these picks, and a steep dropoff now - all of Pryor / Clinton-Dix / Bucannon / Ward went in the first round in the real NFL draft, but only three S in the next two rounds.

I'll write it up later, but the pick is Anthony Collins, LT (Tampa).

Can someone PM Dgilpin? Thanks.

EDIT:

Look, I whiffed on my first round pick. I scoured the lists of LT and Clark just kept jumping out. And for some reason, I never checked to see if Collins was available. I just assumed he was taken. So, after my first pick, I was asked via message by another owner why I went Clark over Collins. And I did not have a good reason. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to fire myself.

Don't get me wrong - Clark is a good plug & play option for a team that needed a LT badly. But him being moved to RT is an issue and he doesn't have a long track record. But as a RG? He's overqualified. I now have five guys who project to be very good by PFF scoring. I have protected the franchise as well as I could, getting an above-average NFL starter-caliber LT and RG with my first two picks.

Giving Tom Brady the best possible pass-blocking offensive line makes my team better. Not taking a gamble on youth - which might have a higher upside, especially three or four years from now - is exactly what my team needs. We have four high quality WR. We have an exciting young RB, a guy who knows how to fall forward and not fumble, and a couple of TEs with promise and bigger roles for their real teams. We have depth on the OL, with Ricky Wagner projected to start at RT (not here, though Phil Loadholt) and JR Sweezy still in the mix for Seattle. And we can bury Mike Adams behind the bench unless he drastically improves.

Collins - Iupati - Dietrich-Smith - Clark - Loadholt is a professional, talented line who can give Tom Brady lots of time, even against great defensive fronts.

Alright.

I wanted to give SMU the reigns on this one, because this was his pick (and I think it's a good one). But, in the interest of moving this thing along, I'm going to make the pick and allow him to post any more details on the pick later.

Paul Richardson, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle drafted this kid with the 45th pick in the draft. Because he came out of a pretty shitty Colorado team, a lot of people hadn't heard of him. But this kid is a home run threat and he can fucking fly.

How fast is he?

“Oh my God, that guy’s a blazer,” said Price, who was signed as a free agent at the conclusion of the NFL Draft last Saturday. “I saw him in one-on-one coverage and kind of let it rip. He made a great play and scored a touchdown.”

We needed some real talent at WR, and this kid has the potential to be the best WR taken in the draft. At least according to Matt Waldman:

Richardson has great speed and despite occasional drops, excellent concentration to make great catches in tight, physical, man coverage. His routes need refinement, but he knows how to get defenders to turn their hips. Could surprise this year with his production as a rotational contributor. Definite long-term upside and a player I'd prefer to have over most of the receivers who will be taken earlier in most fantasy drafts. I'd rank him lower based on the fact that so many were more skeptical than I during the pre-draft process, but the comments from Seattle's GM and head coach were so similar to my views, they intend to let him compete right away for a starting job.

Baldwin and Kearse have done a good job developing into decent pros, but Richardson has a chance to become Pro-Bowl caliber starter.

The difference in talent between Richardson and the players I ranked 4-7 is extremely small. In terms of big plays, Richardson is among the top five at the position. He can win after the catch on short routes or blow by cornerbacks on vertical plays. He also has a large catch radius for his size because of his arm length and he has a knack for winning the ball on contested targets like no other receiver in this class. Richardson has some minor points to address with his route running, but his speed, intensity, and fluid movement is an illustration of a receiver capable of getting cornerbacks to turn their hips.

But the crux of my evaluation with Richardson has been that he plays bigger than his size. He makes incredible plays on the ball. He plays with intensity, and he’s a lot like DeSean Jackson—perhaps a little tougher. The Seahawks feel the same way. This press conference video of John Schneider and Pete Carroll echo these thoughts In addition to the fact that the average fan or writer didn’t see much of Richardson because he was a one-man show on a downtrodden Colorado team.

He's fast, he's quick, he's got a huge catch radius and good hands, and he's competitive. Hard for us to ask much more out of a rookie coming into Browns camp.

Edit: This fucking quote function is a piece of shit.

The Rams select RB Bishop Sankey.

After Montae Ball got nabbed in the supplemental draft, we were left with just old Steven Jackson in the RB department. If he's got a year left in him, it's probably only coming in limited carries, and he doesn't have much beyond that. The Rams need a guy who can split the load right off the bat, and become the feature guy going forward and probably for a few injury-fueled weeks this year. Sankey seems like that guy. He produced large in a tough conference, in a pro offense, and for a long time. And then he followed that up by being one of the most impressive RBs at the combine. That propelled him to being the first RB off the board in the NFL draft, and we'll give him the same treatment here.

I think these first two rounds have left us now with two guys that can pretty reliably be day-one starters. For a team that was very good, maybe even right on the edge of being elite, I've been trying to use both aspects of the draft to pick up assets that can have immediate impact on areas of need. Thus far, I think we've plugged a bunch of the glaring holes. We're going to need a great year from Cam, but I'm liking our chances of being one of the real contenders in the NFC.

RIchardson's combine #'s:

40: 4.40 (tied for 3rd best among WR's)
Vertical: 38.0 (tied for 10th best among WR's)
Broad: 10'4'' (tied for 8th best among WR's)

Waldman breaks down receivers by certain skills:

1) Separation - Star Caliber (best possible caliber)

Sammy Watkins is known best for turning short routes into long gains, but don’t let the Clemson offensive philosophy fool
you. Watkins has demonstrated refined technique with his hands and feet to earn separation. He’s also adept and reading
his opponent’s position and using it to his advantage. While not as big as Evans or as quick as Beckham, Watkins runs his
vertical routes with a pacing that few college players display.

The same can be said of Paul Richardson’s vertical routes. Combine this skill with 4.4-speed and a 38-inch vertical and
there’s a reason why opponents often bracketed the receiver.

2) Routes: Starter Caliber (2nd best caliber)

3) Receiving: Definition? Sure.

  • The act of catching the football
  • The adjustments a player must make with the ball in the air
  • How consistently the player makes a reception in lieu of their immediate environment

Richardson? Star caliber.

Paul Richardson makes some of the most impressive catches against tight coverage that anyone will see from a
receiver in this class. His concentration and athleticism make him one of the best, and least discussed, receivers in college
football.
