He finished at -4...but when you're only two shots better than Tony Romo, how good can you have really played?
Would be really cool if Romo made the cut this week. Rob was 7 shots better than Mickelson today though. So there's that.

Tied for 8th after day one is a good place to be though. Although, course was definitely playing easier in the morning than in the afternoon. Hopefully, it flips around tomorrow when Rob goes out late.

Dropped shots on 16 and 17 and makes the turn at -2. Cut looks to be -1 so, shockingly, gonna be another close one. He was -4 on the front yesterday so hopefully that'll repeat.

Wound up T52 ($15,807) which beats a missed cut for sure...

And he's in for the Shriner's this weekend in Vegas

I’ll be out at TPC Summerlin tomorrow and plan to follow Rob for a few holes at least.

Edit: Looks like he’s one of the first groups out tomorrow, with nobody I’m very interested in for another hour or so, so I’ll try to catch him at the start.

Great round Rob. Would have loved to have seen a finishing birdie on 18 as he set up himself up well off the tee in the fairway and less than 230in. Oh well - pretty darn good round and I hope that an early morning round will be great for him tomorrow.

Uggh, he was like 40 feet from the pin in the rough in 2 on the par 5, and somehow only hit his chip like 19 feet. Made par, finishes -5, and tied for 8th. Should end up right around there after day one, so all in all, a very good day.

Rob is usually pretty relaxed on the course, so if you catch him when he's going good and say something like "Go Patriots..." he'll definitely notice you. Probably won't be many folks following him.

I'll definitely give him a shout. The crowds looked very sparse today, despite ideal weather. Should be a great time tomorrow.

Needler, I assume your name is Derek? Just got a text from Rob's brother that said "Derek from Sons of Sam Horn is following Rob...." Good stuff. Have a blast.

Edit: LOL, I asked Kenny (his brother) how he knew it was you, and Kenny told me that he's standing next to you. I didn't realize Ken went out there for the tournament.

Haha, yes. Good guy. Rob just dropped one, but he’s striking it well.

3-putt from 6 feet. Apparently blew it 11 feet by.

Edit: nevermind read it wrong, putt went 11 feet and he missed a 4.5 footer coming back.

@Deathofthebambino obviously knows this, but to give the rest of you guys an idea of the kind of guy Rob is...in the middle of a round where he’s fighting the putter and scrapping to make the cut, he spots me near the tee (not standing near his brother or anything) and offers me a water from the players’ cooler. I tell him no, thank you, I’m good. But he won’t take no for answer, says, “cmon, you gotta stay hydrated,” and tosses me a bottle.

And he just made a nice chip up at the par 5 9th, only about 3 feet left for birdie.

Sick par save from the water drop on 18.

I think the decision to go for the green on #16 was ill-advised, but it was really his putter that let him down today.

Missed a 4 foot 3 inch putt for par on 9 (his 18) to drop to E and outside the cut line. There’s a chance the cut moves to E (currently 68 players at -1 or better) but it is too early to tell.

Either way, he has got a few weeks off after this to get some rest and work on his game. I’d imagine his tank has to be on E after grinding through the end of the KFT season and playoffs and then hitting the ground running on the PGA tour right away. The Tour heads to the Asian swing, I suspect his next start would be the alternate Bermuda Championship on 10/31.
