He did. In the fairway on 15, don’t know if he can get home in 2.

Edit: he hit a 3-wood off the tee, so presumably it is a 3 shot hole for him. 18 is listed at 637 yards, so that is also a 3 shot hole.

Birdie 15 and 18 and see what happens. -17 may not win it, but if he shoots -6 on Sunday that will be a huge boost in confidence and a big payday early in the season.

Kohles posts -16, that looks like the playoff number. Rob missed a birdie opportunity on 16, is in the fairway on 17.

Wow, I didn't even realize they started on Sunday until his brother texted me about an hour ago to turn it on (unfortunately, I'm at the office, so can't watch, but I've got about 10 folks blowing up my phone).

FYI, I believe the qualifications have changed this year, and it's not based on Top 25 on the money list anymore. I think they've gone to a points system, like the FedEx Cup, so a win here gets him 500 points, 2nd place gets 300, etc. I could be wrong, but I thought that was the deal this year.

Rob is back in play. Hard to tell how much he’ll have left for his 3rd, but he doesn’t seem to be too far away from where I’veseen other players hit. I’ll guess 130-150ish?

Never mind, Rob must have hit it OOB. That “layup” was his 3rd shot. He just hit his 4th to 30-40 feet.

Dou made a birdie at 17. Bleh.

Par putt burns the edge. Bogey it is. That’ll leave him T4 or 5 depending on what happens around him.

2 penalty strokes on the back 9 come back to haunt. Bummer, but an excellent start to the year nonetheless.

I don't think he had penalty on last hole. He hit a low punch up against one of those bushes on 2nd shot, and then had trees etc in his way, and had to lay up with his 3rd shot. Same result (on in 4, bogey), but no penalty stroke.

Looks like he'll finish tied for 4th. A little disappointing in how he ended the round, but still a great start to the season for him.

Ah OK, I was watching without the volume. I stepped away for a second and came back when he was hitting his 3rd thinking that was where his tee ball ended up.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. If golf courses were like 15 holes long, Rob would be ranked in the top 25 in the world. Such a freaking hard game.

He ended up finishing -1 total after 2 days, which actually has him tied for 29th so he made the cut and will be playing the "weekend." The leader is at -10, but Rob is only 3-4 shots from the top 10, so as usual, anything can happen over the next two days.

Shot a 76 today to finish at +8 and T48.

I didn’t have a chance to watch, but it must be really windy there. A lot of ugly numbers posted.

Yep, the wind went crazy yesterday and today, and Rob can't really compete in those conditions. There were a ton of 75+ scores throughout the field. When he has to play into a significant wind, his length (or lack thereof) is a real negative, and if he gets out of position, forget about it.

As always though, just needs to keep making cuts and getting points. And then hope for a good weekend here and there.

Rob shot a +5, 76 yesterday to put him in a tough spot. -2 through 5 today as he attempts to go low to make the weekend. Needs to get to -1 or -2 in all likelihood. Doable, but no room for error.

Rob missed the cut at +1. No idea what the deal was at that course, but he was one of a DOZEN players in the field that had at least a 10-Shot difference between their Thursday and Friday scores.

Rob shot a +3 73 yesterday, and then came back with an even par 70 today, to finish at +3, moving up 34 spots into a tie for 53. Currently, he's sitting right on the cut line, which looks like it should hold there, so he should make it to the weekend. Seems to be a pretty tough course.

+1 73 today. He started the day +4 on his first 3 holes, so a nice bounce back. Will need a good round tomorrow to make the cut.

In other news, Mike Weir is still grinding away and is currently in 2nd place at -6. Also, the guy in last place made a 17 on a par 4.

Rob shot a 5-under 67 today in the first round of the Savannah Golf Championship in Georgia, which is good for a T6 start. He’s MC’d in 3 of his last 4 and fallen to 45 on the points list. Hopefully the round today gets him going and he can carry it through the remainder of the tournament and beyond.

Started on the back today and was +3 at the turn but blitzed the front coming in with 5 birdies to shoot a -2 70. Has him T4 and a shot back. Afternoon wave is just getting started so he’ll fall back some but still in good position.

T12 finish. He had a wild round, made 6 birdies and 5 bogeys. Bogeyed 6 though 9 to fall down to T40-something and then made 4 birdies on the back to climb back up the leaderboard. Looks like he moved to 37 on the points list.

Wish there was a better shot tracker for the Web.

Shot 1: From Tee Box
Shot 2: From fairway bunker
Shot 3: From the green (in the hole)

That was quite the swing. From just make a par to woo!

4 holes yesterday killed rob. 12-15. He went bogey, bogey, par (easiest par 5), double bogey. Playing that four hole stretch even would have put him in the hunt, but he has to settle for another top 20...not doing all that much for his year in standings.

Believe Rob is currently in a playoff with Kelly Kraft for a US Open spot. 4 spots available for 73 players at his sectional location, he finished T4 with Kraft.

https://www.usopen.com/qualifying/sectional/purchase-new-york.html#!&tab=results

Also, Matt Parziale (the Brockton FF who played in the 2018 Masters and US Open) finished 2nd to pick up a spot.

Edit: It appears Rob won the playoff!
That is HUGE, since he's played so well at Pebble in the past, as an amateur and pro. I'm gonna look around to see if I can get some action on him making the cut.

Yeah, Rob loves Pebble. It's basically a second home for him. Bill Perocchi, the CEO of Pebble Beach, is from Lawrence, MA originally, and he and Rob met when Rob played the US Amateur there in 1999 and they've been really close ever since. There's been a couple of stories out there about it over the years:

This is great! I’d love to put some sort of bet on him too. Lol.

One a related note, Eric Dietrich, a kid from my Connecticut hometown and is a whose family member of the same club as me, won the Walla Walla qualifier and also is in. Played at UConn, is on the Canadien Tour now. He still will practice and play at the club when he’s in town. Not quite the fascinating roller coaster story of Rob, but still prettay cool.

Rob this week
First 7 holes +5 (5 bogeys)
Next 47 holes -17 (no bogeys)

Sitting T24th three shots off a top5 performance.

Hoping he finishes strong tomorrow with some positive vibes rolling into next week.

Seems like he is having a pretty good year, but still sitting only at 45 for points.

Thanks for the article from Bill Burt- it answered questions I was going to ask about what it was about Pebble that set up so well for Rob. It seems like it is a second home course.

As of this, he is -1 through 5 (starting on 10.) T13 currently...
