Yep, ended up t51 after day 2. On his way to the weekend, only 3 shots back from the top 15, so he's, once again, in a nice spot. Just need one great weekend and he'll be all set.

Rob was sitting at +2 for the day, but he just holed out on the 410 yard par 4 8th hole (his 17th of the day) to get back to even for the day. Would be really nice if he can birdie his final hole, which is a par 5.

Rob goes into tomorrow tied for 47th. If the tournament ended today, he would have dropped to 37th on the Finals money list. Needs to have at least a decent day and try to move up into the top 25 for the week.

I've been telling him and his brother for years, that if golf courses were 15 holes, Rob would be ranked in the top 10 in the world. It's amazing how often the last few holes blow up his round.

Looks like he's going to end up in a tie for 25th this week, which right now, would put him in a tie for 28th on the Finals money list. Like I said, the "Bubble Boy" name is coming back again. Going to be a stressful couple weeks.

You mentioned early a few in the top 25 already have cards? (I think something to that effect) - is he truly at 28 or is he actually 25/26? Rob’s story of living on the edge will make a great book one day. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of income comes down to one stroke most years for him.

He’s tied for 28th among those who don’t already have their cards by being among the Top 25 in the web.com tour in the regular season.

With just under $16k in winning after two events, he’s still in position, but he’s got very little room for error now. Last year it took $40k in winnings over the four events to get in, and that should be the target this year, too. He’s going to need something like a top ten or two top 20s.

Needler has it right. He's 28th on the money list, after you remove the guys who already have their cards. I think a great book about Rob's life could already be written. Not sure where you would have it end though. Maybe after he got his win on the Web.com that year, and still missed the top 25 in the regular season money list by a couple hundred bucks, and then had to go to the Finals, where he made it by a couple hundred bucks. The fact that he was even on the Web.com Tour that year was remarkable, considering he had to hit a hole in one on the 2nd to last hole of Q School to get his Web.com card back. It's been literally 15 years of a roller coaster ride.

Ultimately, if he ever got back to the Tour, and actually won an event, I would hound him until his death about writing a book. The story is almost so improbable that it would be hard to believe even though it's true.

He’s in danger of missing the cut - E for the day, -2 for the week, t58 at the turn. He started on the back, and would seem to need to make a birdie or two on 2 and 3, both par 5s. He played them in +1 yesterday.

He made hay on the two par 5s, but bogeyed #4. Still, birdie, birdie, birdie, bogey start is not bad. God forbid the Golf Channel give him a little airtime.

Not a terrific finish, but he did enough to make the cut. -3 for the week, t47. Only 3 strokes out of a top 20, so he can still do something on the weekend to help his chances.

A bogey-free, 4-birdie round through 12 holes has Rob all the way up to t12! If he can finish with a couple more birdies, he could backdoor a t10, which would all but guarantee him his card.

EDIT: Uh, it's only Saturday. I may need another cup of coffee.

Yeah, and considering he went par/par on the 2nd/3rd holes, which are back to back par 5's that the guys are chewing up (one guy, Wily Wilcox just went eagle/eagle, and is -5 thru 4 holes), this has been a great turnaround. Although as we've seen many times over the years with Rob, it's not how he starts, it's how he finishes a round. It'll be huge if he can even just go bogey-free in from here.

Rob needs this leaderboard to change a little bit over the next two days too. Right now, he's still at -4 for the day, and tied for 14th, but if the tournament ended right now, he would actually drop from 28th to 30th on the Finals Money list because 7 guys that are currently in the top 10, would vault over him on the money list.

Aaaand there's the bogey on 14. Damn it. Why can't they make these courses shorter. Needs to get that one back.

And then, as usual, he makes par on the par 5 16th, but then turned around and birdied the par 3 17th. So -5 on the day, up to a tie for 12th.

And he's in the clubhouse with a -5, 66 for the day. Huge moving day today. Hopefully, he keeps the momentum tomorrow.

Yes, throw out another 66 tomorrow and then maybe he gets something going.

Yeah, he's dropping quickly as the leaders hit the field. His -8 for the tourney is now a tie for 23rd. If it ended right now, he'd drop from 28th to 33rd on the Finals money list, so really needs to have just as good a day tomorrow to really get himself a strong finish.

Finished with a +2 73 for t58 right now. He’s projected at 38th in the finals, and he’s going to need at least a top 10 next week to keep his card.

He earned $2,590, putting his total after three tournaments at just over $18,400. 25th place has already earned about $32,200, so while he may end up not quite needing $40k total, it probably won’t be much less than that. Pretty much needs a top 10 next week.

-1 first round has him at t33 for the moment, obviously not good enough. He had 5 birdies today, and was -3 at the turn but just couldn’t keep it together. He’s four strokes out of where he needs to be (around top 12) right now with most of the field yet to tee off.

He did get a little coverage on the Golf Channel on his 18th hole (par), which was nice.

Scores were very low today, and Rob’s -1 ended putting him in a tie for 75th. So the number one thing right now is playing well tomorrow, or his 2018 PGA tour is going to die before the weekend. Certainly not the start to the week he wanted.

Also, forecast for tomorrow is scattered t-storms, with the wind picking up in the afternoon, which is when he tees off. The earlier starters should have a significant advantage.

Rob is -1 on the day, -2 for the tournament through 11 holes, but the projected cut is -4. So he's got 7 holes left to keep his 2019 PGA Tour dream alive. He started on the back, so he's got two par-5s left (holes 6 and 7).

BOOM, he goes birdie-birdie on holes 5 and 6 to get to -4 for the week. All he has to do is avoid taking on any water in the next three holes and he'll live to fight another day.

Actually, scratch that completely. I missed the triple bogey he made on the par 3 third hole. He is in big trouble and needs birdies.

Hole 3:
  • Shot 1 from the tee box
  • Shot 2 from the other
  • Shot 3 Penalty
  • Shot 4 from the primary rough
  • Shot 5 from the green
  • Shot 6 from the green (in the hole)

And, a par on the par-5 7th (his 16th) is going to seal it absent a holeout from the tee or fairway.

EDIT: Finished with a 70. -2 for the tourney and t85 for now.

On the somewhat bright side, even the MC here won't knock him out of the top 50 in the finals, so he'll have full status on the web.com tour next year.

@Deathofthebambino any idea whether he's committed to another run on the junior tour? I know he's 38 years old and has a family. I'd bet he wouldn't have any trouble getting a good club pro spot should he get tired of all the travel.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't continue with the Web next year, but I don't know for sure. Haven't talked to him or his brother this week. Wouldn't be right checking in now, but he's made a pretty darn good living, even in his Web.com years (he'll still play at Pebble next year, I'm sure, and a couple years ago, he made over 200k just on that tournament), but you never know. I'm sure club pro is in his future at some point, but I don't think he's there yet.

Rob shot a 66 and finished in a 10-way tie for second in Monday qualifying this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi, but didn't make it through the playoff to get a spot in the field.

Rob finished T2 (unfortunately, he had his typical worst round on Sunday or he would have won the thing) in the multi-tour funny season event at Pebble Beach a couple of weeks ago. Doesn’t help him with tour status, but a decent little payday before the holidays.

Yeah, he took home 30k for the tourney at Pebble Beach. Always nice before the holidays. He's officially committed to a full season on the Web.com tour this year, and will be in the two events in the Bahamas on 1/13 and 1/20 to start the season.

-5 through 16 (-11 for the tournament) up to T2. 3 shots behind the leader, Zecheng Dou.

3 other players at -11 with Rob. 18 is a par 5, another birdie would set him up nicely for the final round.

-2 through 6 to start the final round. In solo 3rd right now at -13. Unfortunately the leader is at -18, but stranger things have happened.

Greater than 50/50. Last time he won he ended up 26th on the year long money list, so it is not a 100% guarantee, but it’ll get you real close. Getting it in the first event would take a ton of heat off for the rest of the year, I’d imagine.

Dou bogeyed 12, Rob is 1 back. He just missed a birdie putt on 13. This is on the golf channel, for anyone looking to watch.

Thanks. I forgot he had a win that season. It appears from last year, you get one win and another top 10 - your going to be in the top 25 if you make half your cuts the rest of the way.

He has a shot at this 2 back 5 holes to play, 2 par 5's (not his speciality really) but Dou could fold and -16/-17could win. Get 2 more birdies and see what happens.

He really needs to birdie this short par 4 number 14, which he has parred all week. It is only 303 yards. I don't know anything about what sets it up to be a tough hole, but a birdie here is a must.
