Well, no top 25, geez. All the way down to T34, as guys are just going right by him this afternoon. Still a great day.

On Friday, Rob was about to head home with 20 other guys at -3, when the last guy on the course 3 jacked on 18. He ended up turning that into over $34,000 in earnings and 19 Fedex Cup Points. He was also only one shot ahead of the "MDF" cut on Saturday. All in all, a pretty good week. Hoping it leads to a few strong finishes in the 2nd half of the season.

-1 through 9, nice start.

He just had an adventure on 18 (his 9th). Shot tracker:

Shot 1: 253 yard to unknown
Drop in unknown 332 yards to hole
Shot 2: 195 yards to native area, 157 yards to hole
Drop in native area, 159 yards to hole
Shot 3: 138 yards to left rough, 61 ft 3 in to hole
Shot 4: 63 ft 7 inches to green, 23 inches to hole
Shot 5: in the hole

Hope it indeed was a par and not just someone on shot tracker asleep and not labeling the 2 drops as penalties. The map has him driving it way right, curious to know how he got free relief twice from that far off the map and in “unknown” and “native” area.

Bogeyed 4 of the last 6 to shoot a +3 75. We’ll see where that comes in at the end of the day, course is playing difficult. Only 14 under par rounds from the morning wave.

Birdied 1 to get to 2. Cut is currently projected to be 1. I feel like we've done this dance before...

It’s April but they are in the back half of the season and only have 17 weeks left. 3 of those weeks are majors/events where he either isn’t qualified as of yet (Players, US Open, PGA) with no alternate. Another two weeks are The Open and WGC which do have alternate events, but it is hard to make up a ton of ground in those unless you win.

Long story short, let’s see more of these 3 birdies in a row runs that he’s on now!

Looks like Rob had an albatross par 5 7th - holed out from 262. That's pretty awesome.

Rob Oppenheim: Shot 1 282 yds to left fairway, 262 yds to hole
Nate Lashley: Shot 1 281 yds to right fairway, 259 yds to hole
Rob Oppenheim: Shot 2 in the hole

They're currently -5, T15 through 11

The official PGA Tour video of it.... is his playing partner looking in the hole to make sure it is there and then giving him a fist bump. Has anyone been able to find anything better?

This could be a huge weekend for Rob. A team win still gives you your tour card for 2 years, and a top 5 will be huge to getting in the top 125. I am excited to see how this plays out. He just made a nice 8 foot birdie putt on #2.

It's interesting that they've switched the format to foursomes on Friday and Sunday this year, instead of foursomes on Thurs/Sat and fourball on Fri/Sun. Given some of the nerves (or whatever you want to call it) that Rob has seemed to play with all too often on Fridays and Sundays, it might help him to really be synced in with a teammate. I've played a lot of foursomes golf since I moved to Scotland, and I really find it suits my temperament - if I hit a bad shot, I don't have to worry about bailing myself out from my own mistake (it's my partner's responsibility), whereas if my partner hits a bad shot and puts me in trouble, it's a lot easier for me to recover when I don't feel I myself was to blame for putting me there. Maybe that will suit Rob this week.

They went -3 today, to finish -11 and tied for 3rd, 2 shots back. Some pretty good golfers on the leaderboard Bubba/Kuchar, Rose/Stenson, etc. Let's hope for another big day tomorrow.

There's not really a great opportunity for FedEx points in this event unless you finish really high. For example, a team in 10th alone would split 75 points = 37.5 points each. That's about what you get for a 24th place (37 points) alone in a regular event. Certainly he'll take every point, but to keep the card without having to go through the web.com playoffs, he's almost surely going to need at least one top 10 or very close. That would equate to about a Top 4 team finish this week.

Edit: Looks like a 2-way T17, which is a great effort and finish in this format, but unfortunately only 25 FedEx points. It'll be about $40k in his pocket at least, which can't hurt.

Longest day in golf...Rob is -3 currently in the NEw Jersey US Open Sectional Qualifying. 81 players, 5 spots handed out. He’s T8, with 5 holes to play. -4 would currently get him into a playoff for the last spot, but things will certainly change. Bubble boy, on the bubble.

74-77 for Rob this week, in case you missed it - only five golfers who completed 36 holes did worse. It's gonna take a miracle for him to keep his card, isn't it?
Pretty much. Of course, a top 10 finish can change things in a hurry, just can't really put too much faith in that happening. Probably back to the Web and do it all again, unless things turn around, and fast.

Bump again. Playing in the Greenbrier this week. He's had a run of missed cuts, made only 8 cuts in 20 tournaments so far this year. 171 on the Fedex list, about 160 pts behind 125th spot.

Despite the lack of sustained success this year, it's an amazing accomplishment to be playing on the PGA tour full time. Here's hoping he has a few good tourneys left in him and can conjure up some the magic that helped him qualify for it in 2018.

Back to back 68's has Rob in a tie for 15th heading into the weekend at the Canadian National Championship. Probably the best first two rounds he's had in months. Would be a huge weekend if he could make some noise. As always, don't count your chickens until that back nine on Sunday is in the books though....

Finished T45. Nice little run of cashing in, but no super high finishes to give any bump in FedEx Cup standings. Here's hoping he makes noise these final month or so. Currently 176.
I don’t think there’s a month. Basically the Barracuda (alternate small prize) next week, and that’s all he’ll be in the field for. Maybe the Wyndham, but unlikely, I think.

Rob missed the cut at the Wyndham, so he won't move up from 178th in the FedEx Cup standings. That's enough to get into the web.com finals (top 200), but not enough to earn full status on next year's web.com tour (top 150).

First event of the web.com Finals is the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship next week in Columbus.

So he basically needs top 25 in the finals? IS there a position which will get him back on the web.com tour?

He's got conditional status on the web.com tour for being inside the top 200. And the next 25 in the finals who don't get the PGA card get full status on the web.com.

Rob shot -2 today and is tied for 29th after the 1st round in the 1st leg of the playoffs on the Web.com. Needs to finish top 25 in the playoffs to get his card back, so if he just makes cuts and has decent weekends, he can do it. In addition to the conditional status he already has, Rob won a tournament on the Web a couple (more?) years ago, which I think carries some exemptions that will help him retain Web status if he doesn't get back to the PGA.

Even par 71 today, -2 for the tournament. He’s t36 at the moment, but should be safely within the cut line, projected at Even right now.

Yep, right where he needs to be for now. As always, going to come down to the weekend. He's only a few shots back from the top 15 at the moment, so a couple good days, and he can get a top 10, couple bad days, and well....

So these guys can get knocked off the PGA Tour and not default to the Web.com for at least a season?!? That seems bizarre. Or do they really view the Web.com as strongly developmental?

After making bogey on #1 to start the day, Rob makes 3 birdies and no bogeys the rest of the way, to shoot -2 for the day. Currently tied for 28th going into Sunday. Moved up about 6 spots to this point, so scoring wasn't great today. Do the same tomorrow, and pull a top 20, and it'll be a nice start to the playoffs.

Scoring continued to get worse in the afternoon, so Rob moved all the way up to 22nd. Picked up 12 spots today with a -2. Just play a nice clean round tomorrow, make a few birdies, and he could easily get a top 15 which would be fantastic.

Another even par 71 today. He's in a six-way tie for 25th. He could possibly end up with a t24 if Sangmoon Bae makes another bogey or two, but that's about the best he can hope for.

Yep, t24 is where he finished. All in all, not a bad way to start the playoffs. Key with these four tournaments is making cuts and getting paychecks. Would obviously have been a lot better if he could have made a couple more and gotten a top 15, but it's a whole lot better than 100 or so other guys this week. Off to the next...Seems like Rob is about to get the old "bubble boy" moniker back again.

For those paying attention, Rob is in 21st place (3 of the guys that finished ahead of him today already earned their cards by finishing in the top 25 on Web.com regular season money list, so they don't count against the 25 that will get their card through the Finals) after week one of the Finals.

Robert Streb (who won today), Peter Malnati, Cameron Davis and Shawn Stefani basically punched their tickets by earning at least $48,000 today (the 4th place total won by Stefani).

E through 11 in the first round of the 2nd leg. This is the tournament he finished runner-up in a playoff last year.

Finished the day E, with one bogey and one birdie. Tied 51st, and right around the cut line. Just a nice little -2 or -3 tomorrow probably moves him up into the top 30 or so, and would be a good spot to start the weekend.
