The KCCs and Bakahump Select

Khiry Robinson  RB (formerly) of the Saints.

He has been electric this preseason and at 5'10 210 has prototypical size.  He also plays faster then his sub par pro day numbers. I envision a poor mans Emmit Smith.

Here running for a few of his 1600+ yards in his senior Season.

I take OL Michael Bamiro of the Eagles(hopefully still after today).  I am taking the 6-foot-8 inch, 340 lb. OT out of Stony Brook as a long-term project.  He has uncanny quickness for a man of his size and has the biggest hands of anyone I've ever seen(he wears 5 XL gloves).  The NCAA took away his senior year in late June because of an eligibility issue and the Eagles signed him.  He has worked his way into the backup RT role behind Lane Johnson.  We'll see what happens with Michael, but for now the Jets are glad to have him.

I was going to continue with my rookie bashing, but the rest of my guys, as of now, have faired pretty well.

So I need some DLine depth. 3 guys just isn't going to cut it. Though I'll be running a 3-4 I enjoy having numerous 3-4 DE that can play 4-3 DT 3 technique when running the Dime or Nickel, or in case I want to go a little heavier on the line. Not to mention goaline, I'm going to need some bigger bodies on this roster.

The San Francisco 49ers select: DT/NT Tommy Kelly

Kelly is a big body who can spell Taylor on 3rd and longs, while moving either Jordan or Orakpo to DE and bumping Wilkerson inside. He can also backup both Wilkerson and Houston, as he's played 3-4 DE in the past. I like the versatility on the line. Though he's 32 he's still a capable D-Lineman and we're happy to have him on our squad.

Jarius Wright, WR, Vikings. I need a true slot receiver and Wright is a guy that fits the ball and has some intriguing upside. He got on the field after Harvin's injury last year and quietly put up pretty respectable numbers for a rookie, catching 22 balls for 310 yards and two TDs in seven games. With Harvin now gone and Greg Jennings and Cordarelle Patterson starting outside, Wright is likely to see a lot of time in the slot and will hopefully thrive in that role.

I'm not in charge, but I say go. If someone's been skipped twice with no communication to the league, I say screw 'em.

I thought we made the rule that if you were skipped and hadn't said anything you continued to be skipped until you checked in?  Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm kind of nervous because I've had limited internet access all weekend and I assume I'm going to come up to pick and I'll be away from internet... but then, I'm probably gonna draft someone who's dead or DFA'd anyway so whatever.

Taylor Thompson, TE/FB

He's big, strong, a phenomenal athlete, he can block on the line or out of the backfield, and he's got real upside as a pass catcher. He's another versatile piece, and he fits in perfectly with the offense. Once Harvin is healthy, defenses will shit bricks when they see Harvin, Vereen, and Thompson line up in the backfield with RGIII.

Seoul Steelers shore up their OL depth with one of the up & coming young linemen in the game.

RG Brandon Fusco

Fusco rotated last year for the dominant Viking OL, and may be a starter for this year in that "other" league.

Sticking with our philosophy of looking at younger starters, Fusco is only 25 after being drafted in the 6th round of the 2011 draft.

Fusco's got the bulk, at 6'4" and 306 lbs, and was the winner of the Gene Upshaw Award as Division II's top offensive lineman.

He's a better run-blocker than a pass-protector, but that's fine with our best RB corp in the league of Spiller, Ben Tate, Marcel Reece, and Michael Ford (holy sh*t that's a monster group).

Cleveland Ravens select Barry Cofield, DT, Washington.

Cofield is a rarity - a 3-4 nose tackle capable of generating pass-rush pressure. His 13 quarterback hits ranked fifth among DTs last year, and he added 6 passes defensed to that total, 2nd among DTs. PFF ranked him 9th among pass-rushing DTs, and all 8 ahead of him were 4-3 DTs. That said, he's not a traditional Parcells 3-4 nose; he plays more 1-gap than 2-gap and isn't always stout against the run (PFF grade: -11.4 last year). That's OK, because I have Haloti Ngata. Ngata and Cofield will be a handful for pretty much any offensive line they encounter, and their flexibility (Cofield has played in 4-3 fronts, too) lets me use a lot of hybrid fronts.

Two other points: 1) Cofield is one of the most durable players in the NFL, missing just one game in his 7-year career. He did sustain a broken hand this preseason, but expects to play week 1 - good, since my defense is just obliterated by injury, and 2) Cofield has one of the most, um, distinctive sack dances in the NFL (see gif above).

Since one of my WR's is homeless (for now) I need to pick up another one. This kid is still really young and could be fighting for a starting spot on his "real" team. On my Pats he'll start opposite Smith and give me the solid all-around route runner with speed I thought Rogers could be.

With their third pick in the Supplemental Draft the Patriots select Marvin Jones, WR.

6'2" 199 lbs with Velcro hands, fluid motion, and great body control, and at only 23 yrs old he fits in with the youth on my team.

Ricky Wagner, T/G (Baltimore)

After filling two starting slots on the OL with my first two picks, it's time to add a backup lineman with some upside. Wagner was picked in the 5th round after a disappointing senior season at Wisconsin. During the preseason, he spent a lot of time at LT for the Ravens and figures to be first up in the case of an injury anywhere along the line. He was a basketball player before going to Wisconsin and has some technique issues, as well as strength concerns, but he also has excellent athleticism and quick feet and while I wouldn't want him starting at LT on day 1 of the 2013 season, he has enough upside to think he'll evolve and grow into a good replacement part and possible starter at T in future seasons.

Hey guys, we've been doing a good job getting our picks in lately. Let's try to keep it going and get our rosters finalized before the season starts in just over 48 hours.

I sent BSJ a PM to let him know OFT was fine with being skipped.

Agreed.

Anybody know whats up with Mystic Merlin and Titoschew?  Both of those guys are logged in frequently yet can't be bothered to make any picks.  And both were really dedicated participants previously so I don't know whats up.  I just PMed them again.

One other thing:

It won't bother me too much if the last round of the draft overlaps with the start of the season but people who have been missing picks shouldn't get a ton of leaway to make them after that.  At some point it becomes an advantage to delay your picks, soyou can see who has starting jobs, who played well the first week or two of the season, who has been injured, etc.  If people just don't make the picks, I don't know what we should do but I definitely don't think we should just let them slide and slide and then make them 3-4 weeks into the season.

I agree. We should ideally finalize all picks by Saturday night. For those who have been skipped or failed to participate we could let a few of us make picks for them. I volunteer for that. But not until I'm done picking with KFP for our team. And I woukd need to wait for the weekend as I don't have mucj time at work.

If they've been active on the site but not here, there aren't any excuses. If they don't fill their rosters it hurts next years draft because their rosters are short. Give them Practice Squad players using last years records and starting with the best teams?

I'll help with that, but there's a conflict of interest until Scoops and I are done.  It's MM, Tito, and Turrable right?  I did talk to Titoschew about this recently and he said he'd check it out, but still nothing.

Lets see where things stand near the the end of this work week.  Hopefully we can barrage people with PMs and get them to make picks.  I think there's a very good chance that we don't get round 5 completed before Sunday so I'm not all that worried about people not doing their make-up picks before then.  But I don't want it to last much longer so we probably will have to do something along the lines you guys are suggesting if people are just totally unresponsive.

Merlin is logged in right now and posted in the Roster Bubble thread two days ago.  Wtf.

Turrable is another issue, as he's been enjoying his first week in college and is looking for a coowner, but nobody has stepped up.

If need be, I think we could either just ask him to name five random guys or make the picks for him at the end, once none of us have conflicts of interest.

Devonte Holloman, LB (Dallas)

A college safety who outgrew the position, this converted linebacker has great skills in coverage.

I guess I'll take a flyer on an undrafted free agent o-linemen in a good system. Yup, another UDFA. Why not? I've only struck out once, so far.

With their 4th pick the Pats select Matt Tobin, OL

The 6'6" 300lb former Iowa walk-on made Chip Kelly's final 53 and has been described as being versatile and a solid backup at four positions and possibly center as well. Just the kind of guy I need on my line. If he fit's in Kelly's offense and also played for Ferentz in college I think he's got a good chance of sticking around.

The supplemental draft has been about one thing for the Cleveland Ravens: piecing together a team after injuries, suspensions, and retirements decimated my squad. With this pick, we'll address the secondary after Stephon Gilmore's unfortunate hand injury. The Ravens choose:

DB Brandon Harris, Texans

Harris has struggled to find a role in Houston's excellent pass defense. He filled in for the injured Brice McCain last year as a slot corner, with mixed results. He's shown improvement so far this preseason, and the former second-rounder is talented and still just 23. Intriguingly, he's worked some at safety in the preseason, giving my squad some versatility. He'll play nickel corner until Gilmore gets back (fortunately, CBs Derek Cox and Corey Graham are solid), and then fill in as a fourth corner and third safety down the stretch, chipping in on special teams all the while.

Seoul Steelers stashes away:

LB DeVonte Holloman

He's been the talk of the Dallas training camp, and there's a good reason why. He just keeps making plays, and as a former safety, keeps finding balls to steal, knock, and generally wreck havoc with.
 • PS game 1: 75-yard interception return for a TD
 • PS game 2: near sack, forced fumble, and an end-zone INT

Here's his experience filling in at multiple spots. While at South Carolina, Holloman played 22 games at SS, and 13 at LB. Although he's not an athletic freak of nature, he combines intelligence, field awareness, and a body that's still getting filled out.

... and just realized SF121 picked him a few spots before. Back to the drawing board.

After the embarrassment of double-picking a player already selected, Steelers try to save face with a strong performer in camp, and in a position that could use a player with some upside.

Steelers shyly select:

S, Tony Jefferson

A pair of INTs against Dallas in pre-season was just another example of an UDFA making a name for himself. He'll back up Reshad Jones as a FS.

Jefferson, the former Sooner, is known to have high football IQ, vision, although not anywhere near having elite measurables.

Still sucks that I lost out on Holloman though. Here's Seoul's updated chart:

Thanks gents. I had Holloman on my short list at the end of the regular phase of the draft and didn't pull the trigger on him as I was unsure of where he'd end up via the draft and needed to secure a rangy FS (Evans). But Holloman has good potential - very athletic and smart with good instincts and a growing body. He won a role in Monte Kiffin's revamped Cowboys defense by making plays on the ball and I think he's a good bet to get lots of playing time because of his ability against the pass.

He's undersized for a traditional MLB or ILB role but he fits nicely in with my desire to mix-and-match in sub packages. Brooks and Woodley on the edges, with some combination of Rubin, Liuget, Heyward and hopefully Armstead inside and Alonso-Holloman-Moore to clog lanes.

LaAdrian Waddle, OT, DET
