The 13th and 14th best players on your team leaving would be "devastating"? Really?

It's not just about talent. It's about scheme fit and team building. A very wise man once said "You're not collecting talent, you're building a team." I think you all know who said that, but evidently you all don't understand it. You can't simply lose one player and replace him with the next and expect everything to be "rainbows and glitter." This isn't baseball.

I like that idea, 121. One player from each side of the ball. Although that could end up benefiting one sided teams.

Doing a 3-5 seems to violate the protect 12 rule. MMS said no new rules. Not that I don't like it, 121, just that it seems to run afoul of the agreement.

But doing steals first isn't a new rule it's just how to execute what we're doing. And it seems like everyone can get behind it.

The one player per side of the ball isn't a new rule but a way to execute it. I like it. I want to hear more from others about it - let's keep this a respectful discussion :)

If we want new rules we can have them. MMS isn't a dictator, he's an organizer. He wants what we want.

You're missing my point completely. You asked what well run teams lost two studs in one offseason. I'm giving you examples of well run teams that lost players that were significant contributors and still went on to conference title games, all within a much more difficult salary cap environment. It doesn't matter if the Pats viewed Amendola as an upgrade (which I disagree with, btw) or if Goldson was a product of the Niners system. They were able to handle the loss of these players, but we can't handle the loss of our 13th/14th best? You aren't losing RG3, you aren't even losing a Jamie Collins. And if you do lose a guy like Rahim Moore, for example, you can go ahead and steal someone like Reggie Nelson from me.
Ultimately, I don't care what we do. I drafted one of the youngest teams in the league and I'd love to watch those young guys grow up together, but I'm also not going to get my panties in a bunch if I lose a guy like Alfonzo Dennard or Karlos Dansby. The impact of losing 2 (at most) of these kinds of players is not going to devastate my team. Not even close.

I'll give you that you answered my question with the Pats losing two studs, but I thought it was understood that I meant for cap reasons, not murder reasons. I said this that started the whole discussion "In the NFL you have enough cap space so that if you always play your cards right you'll never lose a player you want to keep." The Niners you listed aren't studs, and the Patriots were not lost for cap reasons. My original statement is still right.

You had lots of trouble figuring out what X was and why they wanted you to solve it in school, huh?

What was X? X is a letter.

So what do you want to do?
I want to be able to pick 8 players off any roster (no protections allowed) since I had to pick last in the draft. It's not "realistic" - NFL teams already have tons of players in place, and drafting at the bottom put me at a disadvantage. Saturnian should get to pick 7 players, and reverse in order until the bottom 3rd of the draft has been compensated.

Just amend the rules!

I mentioned before we should drop 5 and draft. I'm having a hard enough time trying to figure out the five I want to drop.

No shit, right?

The people in the top half of this draft have done nothing but bitch, complain, and rig this thing to the point of me being completely exhausted with this fucking process.

I'm still baffled that we're deciding draft order based on some random "lets vote on the best team" nonsense. At least give the people in the bottom of the draft to get one fucking year at a fair shake and get first pick of the shitty players/rookies that will have marginal impacts next year.

"Nope. Doesn't help the people who got the best picks already!"

We took our lumps last year on roster construction (YOU CAN ONLY DRAFT 1 QB~!!!!111!!!!1!) and draft position. Now let's cater to the squeaky wheel's even more.

Bunch of fucking crybabies.

How about 14 protected players, 1 non-protected player from each side of the ball, 2 round randomly selected snake draft, release however many players (5?), the actual draft.

I am allowed to suggest we stick to the rules we agreed on?

The most exhausting thing here is having the same discussions over and over and over again.

Then don't discuss it and wait for the poll.

The problem is that it wasn't thought out properly. Having non-protected players sprinkled throughout the draft is going to screw people.

Just like having a separate draft for the non-protected players is going to end up with the last few owners forced into taking people they don't want off of what's left over.

It was a good idea to try to introduce some parity in the process, but this was the wrong way to go about it.

Not voting again.

And how, exactly, am I "having my cake and eating it to"? Pretty sure my team has had the raw end of almost every rule here, yet we're still finding ways to make things easier for teams that drafted early.

Well feel free to think it out properly we have time to discuss it. 5 and 5 isn't going to fly.

Because you want the championship and a top pick. That's crap. The bad teams get the high picks, the good ones get the low.

I don't know what rules you're referring to but complaining that things aren't fair isn't a good look. It makes you look like a whiny  bitch.

At least what I'm arguing for is simplicity and realism rather than my own interests.

It was 5 and 10. Drop 5, draft 10. It puts some players in the pool and adds to the depth of everyones roster. I think the idea of doing a non-snake draft will give the lesser teams an advantage in the drafts moving forward. When we get to more established rosters then we can start to include the game of thievery. It's simple and the teams who aren't as talented get their first pick of the talent pool every round. Or we could do 12 rounds. Like a typical 7 round draft and 5 extra rounds to increase roster size.

What if after we determine which teams will be grouped in the Worst, Middle of the Pack, and Playoffs groupings, we determine draft order within each group by reverse draft order from last year? Say the Bottom group shook out as follow:

Bottom- Bucs (MMS), Broncos (Dollar), Browns (KFP), Dolphins (Me), Vikings (sleepyjose), Chargers (Dougie), etc.

We would then give these teams the first picks in the draft, starting in reverse draft order from the original draft, so 1. Vikings 2. Broncos 3. Dolphins 4. Chargers 5. Browns 6. Bucs. etc.

This gives teams who picked late in the draft priority over teams who picked earlier in the draft, while also accounting for teams in the earlier part of the draft who had bad seasons. Just an idea.

You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't say I wanted the championship or the top pick. In fact, I said I'd probably lose my division and if we did a reverse draft, I wouldn't pick first. So...good job making shit up.

Still, even if I did want those things, why should I be penalized for drafting well? I draft at the back of the draft in year 1. Bad luck, but oh well. Somehow it's unfair to think I could get to draft early in the draft in year 2? Of course, this screws the people in the middle of the draft, which is why I proposed a draft wheel type situation, which was swiftly brought down by people who suck at this process and drafted shitty teams.

Shocking.

As far as complaining that things aren't fair and looking like a bitch? Well, you got that thing locked down pretty well right now. Since day 1, every post you've made about the direction/rules for this thing directly benefit your team. We have 60+ posts in this thread since yesterday, and you have 1/4 of them. Pretty impressive since you represent 1/32 of the people in this process.

We already voted on this. Now that you don't like it, we're going to vote again? If it gets voted in, can I keep pushing for a vote until it goes my way?

Its a fucking fake fantasy draft. Boo hoo. Cry about it.

Oh. So you're not arguing you have the best team in the voting thread, and you didn't say this "I'm still baffled that we're deciding draft order based on some random "lets vote on the best team" nonsense. At least give the people in the bottom of the draft to get one fucking year at a fair shake and get first pick of the shitty players/rookies that will have marginal impacts next year."

Guess I have you mixed up with a different KFP.

Yes it's shocking that we wouldn't adopt something the NBA turned down.

The poll came out of nowhere and the results were pretty clear. They all strongly suggested the voters didn't want much roster turnover. 12 and 2 was the least they could vote for and it won. Who decided that would be the floor? Not the voters.
