Jordan Eberle, RW. Just turned 30 - his birthday is a day before mine! Isn't putting up the same numbers as he is in the Isle but he's a solid possession guy who will likely put up between 40 and 50 points for a couple more years, which is difficult to find. He's also got a lot of his production 5 on 5, so that's a plus. Got a bit of an older 3rd line but Nichuskin is having a better season than Draisaitil, so he can move up as they get older.

Huberdeau - McDavid - Mantha
Nylander - Danault - Mikheyev
Zucker - K. Hayes - Eberle
Nichuskin - Copp - xxx

Klingberg - Pietrangelo
Sanheim - Ekblad
Lindgren - Fox

Rounding out the Penny Pincher's forwards is Kirby Dach, RW. The #3 overall pick, I'm bumping Dach off of center to RW as faceoffs have been his worst skill to date, and his package of skills should translate quite nicely to the role. A quality defensive player from the start thanks to his outstanding hockey IQ, Dach is a big 6'4" kid with elite skill, including some truly excellent hand and stick skills for a guy his size. Moved to a more limited role, Dach will be able to focus on disrupting plays in the defensive zone with his wingspan and stick skills, and lined with Carrier, he may learn a few tricks about how to use his size and strength more aggressively. Powering the transition game with his vision and passing, which are elite, Dach is a great fit to take advantage of his linemates' speed, and in the offensive zone he'll be able to assume a significant playmaking role.

Evgenii Dadonov (31) - Nate MacKinnon (24) - Victor Olofsson (24)
Jakub Vrana (24) - Sean Couturier (27) - Bryan Rust (27)

Some fancy town in CT
Rounding out our position players we found an ideal third pairing puck mover who can be sheltered a bit as needed while he grows into his role. Paired with a solid defender he'll be allowed to help the transition game. He will also be a valuable resource for the second PP unit. With that we can also now lay out our full lines and special teams lineups.

Ethan Bear, RD

Kyle Connor (23) - Leon Draisaitl (24) - Brock Boeser (23)
Filip Forsberg (25) - Tomas Hertl (26) - Viktor Arvidsson (27)
Boone Jenner (26) - Luke Kunin (22) - Matt Calvert (30)
Adrian Kempe (23) - Dylan Strome (23) -- Kevin Labanc (24)

We have two elite scoring lines, a checking line that will annoy and bash the opposition to no end and a sheltered so-called "fourth" line that can be deployed in the offensive zone to control play and generate chances..

Zach Werenski (22) - Ryan Pulock (25)
Josh Morrissey (25) - Brett Pesce (25)
Jonas Brodin (26) - Ethan Bear (23)

Arguably we have five top pairing caliber defensemen. Each pairing is a blend of high end puck movement with rock solid defensive play.

Darcy Kuemper (29)
Open

PK1:
Jenner - Calvert
Brodin - Pesce

PK2:
Forsberg - Kunin
Werenski - Pulock

PK 3 (forwards only):
Hertl - Draisaitl

PP1:
Connor - Draisaitl - Boeser
Morrssey - Hertl

PP2
Forsberg - Strome - Arvidsson
Wersenski - Pulock/Bear

Salary limit - $81.50 million

Total so far:

2019/2020 - $69.691 million
2020/2021 - $64.183 million

Remaining balance:

2019/2020 - $11.809 million (one open slot)
2020/2021 - $17.317 million (one open slot plus five upcoming RFA - Labanc, Strome, Kunin, Pulock and Bear). We expect to be able to comfortably resign everyone and maintain a healthy cushion.

Wow, I'd even written Sundqvist's name into my post before making a last minute decision to go with Kirby instead. That's wild.

Haha I was basically just looking at 4th liners on good teams to see who hadn't been taken yet.

I'll tell you what - my team would be a pain in the ass to play against.

My projected 20/21 Cap Hit is currently 57,681,055 with:

RFAs: Fleury, Virtanen, and Domi.

We should have more than enough space to return our 3 RFA's at market deals, and offer Barrie a new contract.

FINAL ROSTER:

B. Tkachuk- Aho-Gallagher
L. Couture-Ryan O’Reilly-Silfverberg
J. Greenway-V. Trocheck-Palat
P. Lindholm-Acciari-Reaves

Oliver Ekman-Larson- Carlson
Cam Fowler-Ristolainen
A. Edler-C. Clifton

Tuukka Rask

Fast, mobile and deep defense. Two great scoring lines, and a great possession line for a third line. Added a little fight In Reeves, but feel Acciari and Lindholm can alternate on faceoffs as needed. I also have the best goalie in hockey.

I’d probably end up flipping Tkachuk and Couture on the LW. I also have Palat playing his off-wing, but otherwise am pretty happy with this team and would put it up against any picked.

This was a fun distraction. Thank you.

Going upside with my last forward pick. This guy was a key member of the US's loaded world junior team last year and was picked in the top 10 of the 2019 draft. He went to BU and put up a PPG for the Terriers and signed his first pro contract in March. He's an elite playmaker and skater who can play any forward position. He takes the body and loves to get under the skin of his opponents. He will be a spark in the bottom 6 for now but the hope is he develops into a top 6 playmaking center.

LW/C - Trevor Zegras - Anaheim Ducks

Fiala (3.0)-Barkov (5.9)-Meier (6.0)
Kreider (4.6)-Larkin (6.1)-Reinhart (3.65)

Rounding out the roster with our backup goalie. This guy dominated the Swiss League for years and had a coming out party in the NHL this year. We probably can't afford him after this season but we're just looking to get a good back up to stay under the cap.

Putin's Secret Stash ties a bow on this draft selecting Valdislav Kamenev, C Colorado Avalanche. Slava's career highlight to date being part of the three team trade that moved Matt Duchene and Kyle Turris (he was part of the Predator's package.) From lovely downtown Orsk, Slava definitely has his best years ahead of him.

The one player I'm probably most disappointed in not getting due to him being a perfect fit for my merry band of miscreants and divas was PK Subban. Since I couldn't get him I'll fill out my roster with his brother. I still believe in this guy's talent and he'll do well giving Price some days off. Our final selection is Malcom Subban, G

Yeah, your team is better than mine. But at least I have JT Miller.

Finding a backup goalie is hard, so I'm just going to take the youngest one I can find with any experience, and go with Kaapo Kahkonen.

I will post my team roster in a little while.

Kurtis MacDermid, Right Defense

Final Team:

Team Tall, Old and Short (TO&s)

Drafted players needed to be either tall (T), old(O) or short (s). Better yet, a combination.

After numerous negotiation sessions TO&s have reached agreement with Dustin Byguflien for him to come out of “retirement” and play right wing. Although originally drafted by TO&s as a defenseman, Dustin wanted to return to winger.

Our lineup to start the season:

First Line:

Joe Thornton, Center, 6’4” 220 lbs, 40 years old (T&O)

Dustin Byguflien, Right Wing, 6’5” 255 lbs, 35 years old (T&O)

Ross Johnston, Left Wing, 6’5” 232 lbs, 26 years old (T)

First Pair Defense:

Zdeno Chara, Left Defense, 6’9” 250 lbs, 43 years old (T&O)

Tyler Myers, Right Defense, 6’8” 230 lbs, 30 years old (T&O)

Second Line:

Brian Boyle, Center, 6’6” 245 lbs, 35 years old (T&O)

Patrick Marleau, Right Wing, 6’2” 215 lbs, 40 years old (O)

Pierre Engvall, Left Wing, 6’5” 214 lbs, 23 years old (T)

Second Pair Defense:

Jamie Oleksiak, Left Defense, 6’7” 250 lbs, 27 years old (T)

Kurtis MacDermid, Right Defense, 6’5” 233 lbs, 26 years old (T)

Third Line:

Nick Bjugstad, Center, 6’6” 218 lbs, 27 years old (T)

Tage Thompson, Right Wing, 6’6” 215 lbs, 22 years old (T)

Tim Gettinger, Left Wing, 6’6” 218 lbs, 22 years old (T)

Third Pair Defense:

Matt Grzelcyk, Left Defense, 5’9” 174 lbs, 25 years old (s)

Brad Hunt, Right Defense, 5’9” 187 lbs, 31 years old (O&s)

Fourth Line:

Tyler Johnson, Center, 5’8” 185 lbs, 29 years old (s)

Rocco Grimaldi, Right Wing, 5’6” 182 lbs, 27 years old (s)

Nathan Gerbe, Left Wing, 5’4” 169 lbs, 32 years old (s)

Goalies:

Ben Bishop, 6’7” 217 lbs, 33 years old (T&O)

Devan Dubnyk, 6’6” 219 lbs, 34 years old (T&O)

Our Big Players average shade under 6’6” tall, 230 lbs and only 30 years old due to a few huge youngsters.

Our small Players average 5’7” tall, 179 lbs and 29 years of age

Goalies are almost identical in size, averaging 6’6 ½” tall, 213 lbs and 34 years of age.

This was a lot of fun. Thanks everyone![/B]

Sorry, was out camping on Saturday and missed that I was up.

I'll round my team out with Ilya Sorokin, G, New York Islanders. Cornering the market on Ilya goaltenders.

Gaudreau - Eichel - Stone
DeBrusk - Dubois - Monahan
Kaako - Schenn - Kase
Bjork- Bemstrom - Patrick

Heiskanen - Jones
Girard - Shattenkirk
Bjornfot - Miller

Samsonov
Sorokin

I think it's a pretty good squad. I think they could compete now while having room to grow for the future with some kids. Defense isn't great I suppose.

Between here and everywhere.
So - wasn't there discussion that someone here may have the ability to build these rosters into NHL20 or something similar and see how the teams fared?

If you win a cup and then you get exposed in the expansion draft and then go out and almost win another one? Well, you're welcome on our team.
