Realized I hadn't had Schwartz on my roster for a while after picking him early. Whoops.

With 4 roster spots left to fill, 6D seems like an important one to shore up - and an expiring deal is never a bad thing.

The PSKs select D Travis Hamonic

Svechnikov - Seguin - Kucherov
Schwartz - Cirelli - R Smith
Nyquist - Nelson - C Smith
Laughton - -------------- - ----------

Josi - Ellis
Ekholm - Nurse
Brannström - Hamonic

Blackwood

Cap picture:
Seguin ($9.85m)
Kucherov ($9.5m)
Ellis ($6.25m)
Nelson ($6.0m)
Nyquist ($5.5m)
Schwartz ($5.35m)
R Smith ($5.0m)
C Smith ($4.25m)
Josi ($4.0m this year, then $9.059m)
Hamonic ($3.86m)
Ekholm ($3.75m)
Nurse ($3.2m this year, then $5.6m)
Laughton ($2.3m)
Svechnikov ($0.925m)
Brännström ($0.863m)
Cirelli ($0.728m)
Blackwood ($0.695m)

Total cap hit: $73m this year - removed the "growing to" number as Josi & Nurse's raises are cancelled out by the impending UFAs C Smith & Hamonic

Between here and everywhere.
Time to finalize my D pairings.

Like the rest of my team - he's young, he's contributing on a good team, he's got a big body and he's a solid 3rd pair D already despite being on 23.

Their seems to be a heavy imbalance with 'chippy' players being left handed. Not much to choose from to fill out my squad on the right side so my next pick will have to play on his off side. That won't matter as he'll be part of a steamroller 4th line. 2nd in the league in PIMs with multiple player safety hearings under his belt, he'll fit right in. I think there is also a little more offensive ability to coax out of him, but that would be a bonus. THe Cup Checks select Brendan Lemieux, RW

So TFP finds himself marked for an "internet rogering" courtesy of the GRU after he picked Dobby. Vladimir is bereft. Thus we are left picking G Semyon Varlamov currently of the New York Islanders. Vladimir didn't want Semyon as his hometown of Samara only went 93.4% for Vladimir, an embarrasingly low percentage.

Locking down the right side with a smooth skating, strong defensive D with tons of upside and offensive projection. I searched bc I thought I remembered someone taking him but I couldn't find any evidence of that.

Definitely taking Kaprisov if that's within the rules but it kinda feels like it shouldn't be. If not him then this is my pick...

Rounding out a really strong d core with Rasmus Andersson. He's a right shot that plays the left side. He's a smooth skater with a high motor and some offensive upside that hasn't shown itself yet. He plays about 17 ES minutes a night and the penalty kill. There was an article on the athletic this week where they named the best puck moving defenseman by analytics. The players on that list were Karlsson, Girard, Josi, Werenski, Slavin, Mcavoy, Gostisbehere, Leddy and:

D - Rasmus Andersson- Calgary Flames

Fiala (3.0)-Barkov (5.9)-Meier (6.0)
Kreider (4.6)-Larkin (6.1)-Reinhart (3.65)
Farabee (.925) -Schmaltz (5.8)-Saad ($6)

So, who is drafting Kaprizov the second he signs his 2-year tender?
Ask and Putin shall provide. Putin's Secret Stash selects LW/RW Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild. By the time we would have started he will be eligible (trust me, I know a guy.)

This guy is total burnt toast. Really doesn't have much left, but he epitomizes what this team is all about and is ready to pass his bag of tricks down to the next generation. Pickings are slim and it's hard to pass on a guy the office of player safety has on speed dial. How many teams will have a former MVP on the 4th line. One thing is for sure, opponents better have their head on a swivel against this 4th line. The Cup Checks select Corey Perry, RW

Sliding in to the 3rd line RW spot.

KASPERI KAPANEN, RW, TOR.

His contract is incredibly reasonable (3.2 mil a year), he's young (23), 44 points last season.

He'll fit in perfectly.

I think he's a great player but a lot of people view him as one of the best defensemen ever. Out of his general era, I don't know if he's top 5 for me. Karlsson, Doughty, Chara, Giordano are clearly above him. I'd put him on the next tier with Subban, Weber, etc. Hell, Lidstrom was probably still a better player at 39 when Keith won his first Norris trophy, but I'm not considering them of the same era.

I don't know, I think he's for sure in that top tier of his generation...I mean, I'll take him before Giordano, and I think he may have been a better two-way player than Karlsson. Dominant puck retrieval/breakout guy and real nice passer. Tough to shit on two Norris's (however desreved) and a Smythe. He's a HOFer for sure, just not inner circle.
I haven't done the closest of studies on this though...

I guess I've never heard anyone suggest he's one of the best ever.

Maybe I'm just still bitter about him making the top 100 players list over Chara

I think some of us are still a little bitter over how much the broadcasters were fawning over him in 2013, as well. I think they talked about how many minutes he played more than... well, how many minutes he played.

Changing our pick as it appears Vatanen was taken. We'll fill out our fourth line with a puck possessing winger (56%) who is starting to come into his own offensively with a projected 35-40 points this season. He also chips in on special teams on occasion so just a nice player to fill out our forward lines. And we get him for two more seasons at $2M AAV.

Adrian Kempe, LW

Kyle Connor (23) - Leon Draisaitl (24) - Brock Boeser (23)
Filip Forsberg (25) - Tomas Hertl (26) - Viktor Arvidsson (27)
Dylan Strome (23) - Boone Jenner (26) - Kevin Labanc (24)
Adrian Kempe (23) - Luke Kunin (22) - Matt Calvert (30)

Zach Werenski (22) - Ryan Pulock (25)
Josh Morrissey (25) - Brett Pesce (25)
Jonas Brodin (26) - Open

Darcy Kuemper (29)

Salary limit - $81.50 million

Remaining balance - $12.529 million for two slots and upcoming raises.

In looking over our roster it seems that we could use a good RH PMD to fill out the third pair and work some on the PP. He's been banged up a bit of late and he was playing for a lousy Devils team before he got traded to the Canes but we think he'll flourish in a lesser role on our club. He's also a UFA but we don't expect much of a raise.

Ugh sorry. Didn't see on first page and Obvibase said he was available.
Yeah - I've stopped updating the first page partly out of laziness, and no one else was helping or using it (I thought) so I gave up. At the end of the draft I'll update everyone's final teams.

Searching this thread is helpful for seeing if a player has been picked or not. I only discovered that like a few days ago.
This is the best method at the moment. In the search box there's a dropdown to search "this thread" which should work.

Using said method, this person hasn't been taken that I can see. He should fit in on my 4th line but can play up and down the lineup and has put up 20 goal seasons the last two full season. YANNI GOURDE, RW, TAMPA BAY

In building out the fourth line, the Penny Pinchers wanted to bring a heavy element to the team without sacrificing the speed and skill found throughout the roster. William Carrier LW is a rare fit. One of the most physical players in the NHL, Carrier ranks among the league leaders in hits, playing even bigger than his 6'2", 218 lbs frame. But he's no plodder; Carrier has real wheels, can unload a cannon of a shot, and has flashed real offensive skill when given an opportunity to play with guys with more offensive capabilities, and Nick Bonino immediately becomes the most skilled center he's had the opportunity to play with for any real minutes. The pairing should work well in the defensive zone as well, as Bonino's stellar shot blocking abilities will go well with Carrier's heavy, physical game; opposing forwards are going to have to work hard and get uncomfortable to make plays deep in the zone, and even then their shots may not make it all the way through. And of course, the Penny Pinchers would be amiss if they didn't note that Carrier is signed to one of the friendliest deals in the NHL, having agreed to a mere $1.4 million per year for the next four seasons. That's a good salary for what Carrier is right now. Given all his skill, his relative youth, and his first opportunity to play with skilled teammates, and it could be a gross underpay in a year's time.

Ryan Lindgren, D. Need a left handed D-man to round out my defense. Not going to put up many points but he's young and tough, so perfect for the bottom pairing. His upside is probably a second-pairing defenseman but didn't suck on a not good Rangers team as a 21 year-old defenseman. Plus he already plays with Fox, so some continuity there.
