This guy is having a breakout this year, and now is contributing to my extremely young but high producing top D pair.

Tony DeAngelo, D

With DeAngelo stolen out from under me, I'm going to pivot and move in a different direction. I've got a Hart and Selke caliber centers in the middle of my top two lines, and a future Norris caliber defenseman to handle D1 responsibilities. Now's the time to add my Vezina contender. He's a touch more expensive than the Penny Pinchers would like, but he's a horse who plays more than almost any other goalie in the league while producing excellent numbers despite playing behind a pretty shitty defensive squad. JJ's Penny Pinchers select: Connor Hellebuyck, G

I'm grabbing the third of the young rookie defensemen with Adam Fox, D from the NYR. Only 21 and top 20 in points among d-men while getting half the PP time as DeAngelo. Plus he's from Harvard so he's probably smart.

I am am up next... I hope to have everything updated/pick submitted this evening.

As an aside, I am also trying to indicate non picks with a - in the sheet to make it easier to filter on... sadly I don't think there is a quick way to do it.-- but that is a priority 3 thing.

I'll chime in and say that this thread has been a fun distraction. While I do get to work from home, a number of my direct co-workers have been called into direct support roles and I'm supporting 5x the usual projects at the moment. Some weird hours, but things are generally working so far.

MikeMikeMike! proudly chooses, with our next two back-to-back picks:

Mikko Rantanen - RW I am dumb
Mikko Koivu - C

This gives us some youth and scoring ability in Rantanen (I know he was injured in February, but this is a fantasy draft and this is my fantasy), and adds a grizzled veteran centerman in Koivu.

Open - Mika Zibanejad - Mike Hoffman
Open - Mikko Koivu - Mikko Rantanen

Mikhail Sergachev - Open

Incidentally, it is going to be more difficult than I thought to ice a team using only variations of Mike. Goalies in particular.

Yeah if Rantanen was still available I definitely would have taken him.

And just as a heads up-- the Obvibase data thingy is going to be slow on updates this weekend. The little one dropped the laptop, so my screen is fubared--- need to pull an external monitor out of storage (fortunately I am essential, so I can do updates M-F from the office).

William Nylander, C

Fills in for my #2 center spot. Miserable year last year but has had a nice bounce back. Young and plenty of room to grow behind McDavid as the number 2 guy.

Once again, Jeremy Jacobs' Penny Pinchers were looking for a guy who combined high level production on a below market contract. While I originally wanted to grab someone at an ELC, I also wanted someone I could pair on the top line with MacKinnon who could both put up some goals as well as make some plays themself. Ultimately, I had to choose between the two, and went with the latter. In this player, the Penny Pinchers are taking another guy who plays a complete, 200 foot game, can score goals, make plays, and who can be shifted to handle center responsibilities himself as needed. He's also on a bargain contract for another four seasons, making him an ideal fit for the team philosophy. JJ's Penny Pinchers select: Elias Lindholm, RW

I almost took this guy last round but hoped he’d fall back to me and I was right. I don’t love that my top 2 centers are on the wrong side of 30, but I need the leadership and defensive responsibility he brings, along with the consistency. Frankly I’m shocked he’s available in the 4th round. Pasta Fagioli welcomes him to the squad.

I did a double and triple take to make sure this guy wasn't taken. A guy who consistently scores 30+ goals per 82 games, whose stats aren't padded by the PP and who is only 25 years old. And he's going to be my second line center? Sign me up.

No one wants a cancer on their team. Wait, it was that he had it not that he was a? Oh. Hmmm. Welll... If we squint maybe it'll still fit? And he can be friends with Phil.

Miro Heiskanen, D

Kinda surprised he’s still available. 20-year old stud LHD. Heiskanen - Jones should form one of the premier top pairs in the league.

Gaudreau - Eichel - Stone

Heiskanen - Jones

Heiskanen is the other name I considered along with Lindholm, before deciding Lindholm's contract gave him the edge. Real nice pick here.

Stolen off my lap. And I find myself really stressing this pick a bit here...couple of ways to go, but I think I'll grab my 2nd line center and my Captain in Bo Horvat.

I can see the run on goalies coming, and in order to stay within our age range of 26 and below, the Youngbloods select:

Between here and everywhere.
Shit I guess we're doing a goalie run, eh?

I'm building my team on youth. But I'm also building my team to compete today. I don't yet have a player over 25 years old, but I also have some of the most elite talent in the NHL. With my next pick I am aiming to continue to dominate the youth movement, while also being a strong contender to smoke ALL your weak ass teams.

The future is now. The future is wins in 5 of his first 6 games. The future is a 10-2 record with a .932 save percentage in his first 12 games for a kind of garbage team.

The Soviet Connector's select:

Igor Shesterkin, G, NYR

He's right up there with Marchy as an all-league trash talker who'll help draw some penalties so we're not short handed 80% of the game. We're going to get him back on the Norris track by forcing him to be roomies with Matthew Tkachuk. He'll be so pissed off everyday he'll take it out on other teams.

The Cup Checks select Drew Doughty, D.

I've got an elite d on the ice for about 50 minutes of every game and two strong 2 way centers but I need some scoring on the wing. This guy that I totally meant to pick the first time and definitely didn't pick someone who was taken 2 rounds ago first is a 23 yo 30 goal scorer who we'll staple to Barkov for the next 8 years.

For my 5th and 6th rounders. Going for versatility, production, and both signed until 2024 on $5.4 and $5 million cap hits:

Teuvo Teravainen - LW/RW
Jonathan Marchessault - C/LW
