My team is probably going to suck, especially if my team captain has trouble dealing with ridicule, so I'm going to go young, and build my defense up in order to cover for my lack of skill.

Charlie McAvoy, D

I'm on mobile so if someone could ping the next person it would be great.

I was starting to overthink this- this is just supposed to be fun. So my team just got a little bit more funner with the addition of Mat Barzal.

I've got my eye on someone which unequivocally means he'll be taken in the next 2 picks.

Listen, we get it. Times are tough and there's a lotta shit going around. Who can really blame you if you want to snuggle into your childhood pajamas and forget that you're an adult for awhile?

I was gonna take Tavares, but now I'll build from the blue line. Team Pasta Fagioli takes:

QUINN HUGHES, D

A certain someone didn't send me a PM (and it appears the alerts definitely aren't working, as @veritas' ping didn't pop up either).

Regardless, I was pretty worried that someone was going to take my guy, but it looks like he slipped to me. In keeping with the Jeremy Jacobs' Penny Pinchers draft strategy, I'm drafting a guy who combines top tier production at a bargain price. This guy has developed into an offensive threat who can score 30 goals and put up 70 points a year despite playing limited time on the power play, he's arguably the best faceoff man in the NHL, and an absolute menace of a defensive forward who might well have brought home his first Selke this year had the season not been cut short. Oh yeah, and he's paid only a hair over $4 million a year for the next two seasons, both of which will be on the right side of 30. For less than the annual salary of a Tavares or a Panarin, JJ's Penny Pinchers are proud to pair Nate MacKinnon with Sean Couturier, C.

And yes, I feel quite dirty lauding a goddamn Flyer like that.

Was debating whether to get Patrick Kane or someone else for a bit. Then did a ctrl+f and realized he was picked. With that, I'm going with Jonathan Huberdeau. More of a setup man but has started to scoring as of late. Thankfully McDavid can score with the best of them, so they should form a nice 1-2 combo on the top line.

You need an injured winger to go with my injured center, so I am going with Jake.

What are you wearing Jake? Uhh... a Penguins Jersey?

I'm guessing you're going with a defenseman, as am I. I was between a couple of guys but I think you're guy is safe as I have decided to go with Alex Pietrangelo. Guy is a stud in all phases of the game and, at 30, can definitely play at a high level for a few more years.

Huzzah!

I'm pretty shocked given the run on young D-men that this guy wasn't picked way earlier, as I think he's arguably the best young defenseman in the NHL. Of course, being stuck on one of the most incompetently run franchises in the league means he's pretty easy to overlook, but he's a guy that the eye test, the advanced metrics, and the basic numbers all show to be a #1 caliber defensemen despite the fact he won't even turn 20 for a couple more weeks. He's an offensive dynamo with the speed and skill to perfectly complement a top line player like MacKinnon, and as he continues to develop physically should become a Norris contender in short order. Jeremy Jacob's Penny Pinchers are thrilled to select Rasmus Dahlin, D.

This guy is getting a bit older, but still is producing at a high level and is probably the most consistently underrated players in the league. Over the last 3 years, he's 6th in points for centers. His game fits perfectly with Pasta on the wing, and helps me fill out the 1C spot. I've also always been a fan of his over the years.

Probably as good a time as any to set up the D line corps with one of the top young blueliners in the league. Only 22 years old with 169 points in his career, of which 109 are at even strength so no power play padding here.

Shouldn't defensemen play defense?? How can a guy win an award for defensemen on the basis of his offense? That's crazy! HeRRf DeRf Analytics nerds

Werenski and Jones were the other D-men I looked at. Good picks.

And Nap's team is quickly shaping up to the most expensive squad you could possible assemble!
