Snake draft, we’ll start with no time limits on the picks. The goal is to create a fun time waster. After making a pick, tag or PM the next up. If anyone else wants to participate, we can add them at the bottom of the draft.

I’ll try to keep track of picks in here. As we get deeper in, CTL F before making a pick to reduce duplicates. All players signed to an NHL contract are eligible to be selected. There will be no salary cap.

I probably missed something, but I think that covers it. @Haunted leads off whenever ready.

Edit: Also, please bold your picks.

No creative theme for me. Just BPA. With that I’m taking Conor McDavid. Don’t really need an explanation for this one.

I guess my team name will be ‘Mike Green With Envy’.

Let’s take the hometown guy who is still so young and would have scored 50 this year.

You all laughed at the thought of having no TP and using napkins. But now it's not looking like such a bad idea, is it? Here at Napkin Headquarters that's how we're going to focus - players that we love to laugh at and/or hate or maybe we don’t see much of a use for them . But you know what? Maybe they're not such a bad thing to have around.

Auston Matthews, C

Freeing him from Buffalo. Hopefully we can do a better job of assembling a team around him than the Sabres.

Sorry guys- I had to sleep on this. Because how do I not take Sidney Crosby (ever heard of him?) for BPA or not take Patrice Bergeron (for most beloved) or even take Marchy (to try to create team scumbag)? Instead I'll go off the board and start from the back end with a potentially game changing player- Cale Makar, who I've been lucky enough to follow his career since he was playing juniors and before he attended the greatest university in the world.

(I added OGG's Obvibase thingy to the first post of this thread in case that's easier for people to find if they need it)

Team “Possibilities” takes Zdeno Chara

Depending how draft goes can create the following:
  • Tallest Team
  • Oldest Team
  • Toughest Team
  • Team Captains (and assistant captains)
So many possibilities…..

@FL4WL3SS up next!

EDIT: also could create a "Mutt and Jeff" team. So everyone stay away from Nathan Gerbe.

See? This is why I don't do these stupid exercises, like ever. The person I am going to pick, ALWAYS gets picked right before my turn.

I still like the idea of building out from Center, though, and with that in mind, I am going to go with JT Miller. I will have more of a writeup later (and it is probably an awful pick), but for now I have to do family time, because WFH without being bothered time apparently just expired.

@TSC it is your turn.

Yeah, I don't think the tagging thing is working anymore. It used to, but I think it broke when we moved to the new server r something.

Everyone should have to pick a name too - that's half the fun.

Also, on what planet does JT Miller go 14th overall?

He was having a very nice season. I mean, there's other guys I'd take in front of him as a center, but it's not as bad as my Lidstrom pick the last time we did this.

Okay, so here's my write up, not that it makes my pick any better.

1) Even though I knew it was going to happen, I was completely flustered by FL4WL3SS taking Bergeron after making me wait 28 hours just for him to pull him out from under me.

2) My wife was standing over my shoulder, trying to get me out the door to the pool with the kids (quarantine isn't so bad in my house, and I'm off work until the 6th of April, so I've been on the computer most of the time studying coding, and trying to stay productive, and maybe start being ready to go into work for myself making apps or something.... but I digress).

3) I knew I wanted a good Center to build around, and I definitely looked at others before I settled for Miller. When I watch him, he has good control of his size, and plays bigger than he is, while also maintain good skill. He's only just now 27, so he is getting ready to be in (hopefully) his best years, and he took a huge step forward as a leader of a relatively young Vancouver team, leading their forwards in TOI, and points, and was a big part of them being right in the thick of the playoff hunt. He's also stays healthy... he missed 7 games last year, but otherwise has played in every game over the last 3 seasons. He is shooting more than he did with Tampa and the Rangers, but his Shot % isn't that much of an outlier over his career average, he's a killer in the face-off circle, and his CF% has basically improved every year he has played.

I know he's a reach, and deserve the derision, but I think he's a decent guy to build my team around at this point.

Between here and everywhere.
Oh boy - here we go.

I was originally ALSO going to draft Bergeron and call my team The Selke Club in tribute, and select only the best defensive forwards and offensive defensemen.

But that plan is shot so.

THE SWEDISH CLUB (for this round only) SELECTS

ELIAS PETTERSSON, C, VA

21 years old and already 132 points in the NHL. Room to grow defensively, but he has all the makings of an elite NHL centermen for the next 15 years.

I PM'd @RIFan already.

I had Crosby typed in before making my shitty pick, but his injury history and rumors he might retire gave me second thoughts. He probably goes top 5 a couple years ago, though, right?
