This guy sucks, he's overrated
You're right!
And he's soft. How many times has he's been out?
A lot.
And his contract?
It's ugly. WAY overpaid.
What does he really bring?

Oh, 23 points in a cup run?
26 in another finals run?
A heck of a lotta points when you finally find a winger for him?

David Krejci, C

(plus we need to have at least 1 Bruin, right?)

There were a few options here, but the Penny Pinchers couldn't say no to another rookie scale contract. Another very young defenseman who was thrust into heavy minutes and significant responsibility despite his inexperience, this guy will bump Hronek to the 2nd pairing and provide Rasmhus Dahlin with a defensively responsible partner who can also skate and pass with him. Despite entering the season as a rookie afterthought, the possession stats absolutely love his performance, and his team clearly believes the stats aren't lying as they've given him a lot of ice team, and a lot of PK time. He has a well rounded game with no major weaknesses, and while he may not have the offensive upside of the Cole Makars or Adam Foxes of the world, his defensive impact may make it a closer race than one might think. Jeremy Jacob's Penny Pinchers select John Marino, D.

Want to add some more help down the middle and add some prowess in my defensive forward ranks. Was looking at a few centers but they came off the board shortly before my pick, so have had to pivot a bit. With that, I'm going with Phillip Danault, C to be my second line center, pushing Nylander to the wing. Top 10 in the Selke last year with strong underlying stats even on a crappy Montreal team. Good at faceoffs, plenty of PK time, and 27, so jumping up into his prime. He's going to play the hard minutes to save up the top line to do what they do best.

With our next two picks, MikeMikeMike! selects:

Michael Del Zotto - D
Mikael Granlund - RW

Some good JAG depth named Michael here. I searched through this thread and didn't see that either were taken, so I'll be frustrated if my search ability is crap. I suspect that I'm going to end up with three #2/3 lines and kind of a crap 4th line, but hey. Mike giveth and Mike taketh away. This has been a fun exercise.

I'm going with John Klingberg, D, of the Dallas Stars. Has two top 10 Norris seasons to his name and, while he's been struggling this year, I'm banking on him rebounding back to his typical form. At 27, I'm guessing he's not done just yet.

One issue is I do have right now is that I have 4 right shot defenseman on my team but I'm sure someone can play his offside. That or I can go full Panthers and have a bunch of defensemen play forward.

Let's see if this sounds familiar. Until this year, this left wing was a bit of a "glue" guy. He could play on any line from the third line to a top line. He was a good defensive player and great penalty killer, who never really got much any run on the power play. Offensively, he was more of a goal scorer than a playmaker, and the advanced stats always liked him as a guy who drove possession. He signed a long term deal after a fairly run of the mill season for relative pennies, which seemed market value last year, only to explode this year with career highs in just about every offensive category, in no small part thanks to finally being given some real powerplay time and better offensive talent around him. I'm pairing him with a Selke caliber center who is no slouch offensively himself, similarly signed to a bargain contract. While they may not quite be Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, Sean Couturier will pair up quite nicely with his new linemate, Bryan Rust, LW.

Overall, the Penny Pincher's squad is shaping up quite nicely. On the offensive side, the top two lines both bring high end firepower with every single player on both lines being capable of putting up at least 20 goals. All the defenders are mobile, highly skilled, and strong at moving the puck, so the team will be an absolute menace in transition. In their own zone, we've got an absolute horse between the pipes who has shown the ability to put up terrific numbers even when his team does him no favors at all, except in this case he's got a terrific group of defensive forwards to help buoy his young defenders, all of whom are capable at worst in their own zone, with Marino flashing legitimate lockdown potential. I need a defensive D-man to pair with Hronek, who would likely see his numbers improve dramatically in a less insanely overloaded workload than what Detroit has thrown at him, and of course the entire bottom half of the roster remains to get filled out, but there's a lot to like here.

With a ton of different options right now, we're going to go with proven goal scoring ability. I think it's fair to say that team Pasta Fagioli will not be playing in many 1-0 games this year, but we're building offense at the top and will round out defensive responsibility as the draft goes on. This guy is 27 years old, has experience, scored 40 goals last year and has proven he can light the lamp. His production has dipped this year, but playing in Buffalo, whose wouldn't? I'm gonna put in on the first line LW and bump Wheeler down with Kopitar for now. This is all quite fluid.

Also - I've tried to catch up the first post with all the picks up until now so please double check and keep using that for searching for past picks. If @The Napkin or @cshea could help me out as we move along, that'd be appreciated.

Yeah I had to ctrl+f his name about 8 times to make sure. Don’t necessarily need him but couldn’t pass it up.

Come at me bro! Gonna bury you this year.
My team will just take it down the right wing. Should be no problem. Good pick though. One of the NHL's most underrated players.

Wow the pace really picked up. Nice job with the Klingberg and Rust picks especially - we had them both on our target list. With those options gone, it's time to set up our goaltending. Our selection has posted a career .918 save percentage and 2.46 GAA to date while playing for middling to decent teams. He's come into his own the last two seasons with a GSAA of 25.06 last year (in 55 games) and 16.65 this year (in just 29 games). And the finance group is thrilled with the $1.85M cap hit for this season.

Disc Golf courses in Oregon are starting to re-open with heavy social distancing requirements. (Max 2 per card, masks required, and baskets pulled so you just assume a made put from 10 meters in).

Between here and everywhere.
I'm surprised this guy is still available.

He's kind of a punk, but he's a solid center away from being a PPG player. Putting him with a big boy like Charlie Coyle who can posses the puck and put him in position to get some garbage goals in the intent. It's also nice to have a player who is willing and able to drop the gloves when the situation calls for it.

Plus, anyone who can do this to Ryan Kesler is a-ok with me.

Domi would have been a nice fit on my team, so I'll need to go in a different direction. I wan't going to pick a goalie until later and this guy is seemingly too much of a good guy to fit with my group of miscreants. He does have a lot of history sharing a locker room with a lot of similar characters so he'll feel right at home. The Cup Checks select Carey Price, G.

Time to add another #1 overall pick to my roster. I am actually surprised he is still on the board. He is in his 3rd full season in the NHL at just age 21 and becoming a really good two-way center. My pick is Nico Hischier, C, NJD. Now I have 3 centers ages 24, 18, and 21 so I am really set for the future up the middle.

My next pick is a player who is perpetually underrated because of his size. He plays 24 minutes a night, gets deployed in the D zone against a high QOC and is good for 10 goals and roughly 40 points from the back end every year. He is a poster boy for the analytics community because traditional scouting methods say "he's too small" or "he is more of an offensive guy, cant play defense at his size" but his exceptional advanced stats say otherwise. Hedman is a perfect compliment to his game. He's probably a little too expensive for a few too many years but I think hes a really strong player and this exercise has zero consequences.
