Overall Football Traits - 1 = EXCEPTIONAL, 2 = ABOVE AVERAGE, 3 = AVERAGE, 4 = BELOW AVERAGE, 5 = MARGINAL

Production: 1
2009: (3/0)
2010: (12/7)
2011: (13/13)
2012: (13/13)
2013: (10/10)

Height-Weight-Speed: 3 - Good blend of height and weight. Big hands (10 ¼ "). Arms (32.6 inches) are on the shorter side. Marginal range and top-end speed on tape.

Durability: 5 - Fought through a number of different injuries including an eye injury that affected his vision for most of the Tennessee game in 2013. Missed most of fall camp and first two games with a torn pectoral muscle in 2013. Sustained injury lifting weights in August. Tore a meniscus in 2012 and underwent surgery following the season. Played through a back injury in 2011. Missed 2010 Mississippi State game with an injury. Played with a broken middle finger and torn hamstring that year. Medical redshirt in 2009.

Intangibles: 1 - Voted team captain by teammates in 2013. Leads by example. Puts team first and plays through injuries. Excellent weight room work ethic. Played all five positions along offensive line in high school. Oldest of five children. Cousin David Latu a former offensive lineman at College of the Canyons in California and cousin Will Latu played offensive tackle at Abilene Christian last year.

Offensive Guard Specific Traits

Pass Protection: 4 - Big and strong enough to hold ground against power even though sets high. Limited athlete that struggles to stay in front of defenders. Flashes ability to hold on once locked on but inconsistent hand placement and just an adequate overall hand fighter. Vulnerable to spin and pull moves. Top-heavy and leans.

Run Blocking: 3 - Lower body strength, size and tenacity to develop into an effective drive blocker. Drives legs and can move defenders off ball when stays low. Hand placement is inconsistent however. Doesn't always extend arms and can whiff. Not a great fit for zone heavy scheme. Doesn't have the lateral quickness and footwork is inconsistent. Adequate angles climbing to the second level but struggles to adjust to moving targets.

Awareness: 2 - Picks up most blitzes and stunts in pass pro though can over-commit and recognize stunt split second too late. Locates second level assignments as a run blocker. Keeps head up and locates linebacker on combo blocks.

Toughness: 1 - Aggressive. Hard-nosed. Plays through pain. Finishes once gets defender on heels and goes looking for contact when no one comes to him in pass protection.
