Overall Football Traits - 1 = EXCEPTIONAL, 2 = ABOVE AVERAGE, 3 = AVERAGE, 4 = BELOW AVERAGE, 5 = MARGINAL

Production: 1
 - 2010: (12/0) Rushing: 156-1,052-6.7-14 Receiving: 11-88-8.0-0
 - 2011: (13/0) Rushing: 141-713-5.1-6 Receiving: 15-150-10.0-0
 - 2012: (14/2) Rushing: 125-806-6.4-12 Receiving: 6-127-21.2-1
 - 2013: (13/12) Rushing: 221-1,444-6.5-13 Receiving: 39-300-7.7-2
 - Career KOR: 40-765-19.1-0

Height-Weight-Speed: 4 - Smaller frame but thick legs and built well. Adequate top speed. Small hands (8 1/4"), short arms (29 1/4").
Durability 3 Left 2010 Iowa game and did not play against Purdue two weeks later. Frame is a concern when it comes to projecting long-term durability.

Intangibles: 2 - Parents are Tyrone and Lisa White. Graduated. Majored in agricultural and life sciences with a focus in communication. Related to Washington WR Santana Moss and former Giants WR Sinorice Moss. Relative Craig White played at University of Minnesota.

Running Back Specific Traits

Competitiveness: 2 - Good not elite effort and determination. Excellent ball security despite small hands. Third best career fumble percentage of the 25 RBs we tracked in 2014 class. Fumbled .4% of his touches at Wisconsin. The two backs with better percentages got far fewer touches. Keeps ball high and tight.

Vision/Patience: 2 - Doesn't have elite instincts or anticipation and late seeing some seams but efficient runner with above average blend of patience and decisiveness. Hides behind blockers than accelerates as soon as locates seam. Reads flow of defense and can locate cutback lanes.

Agility/Acceleration: 3 - Violent cuts. Excels at pressing, getting linebacker to commit and then bouncing. Can make defenders miss in hole but not an elusive open field runner that can string together ankle breaking moves. Quick enough to get outside but doesn't have great burst for a back with his size. Doesn't have a second gear.

Power/Balance: 5 - Adequate balance. Flashes ability to bounce and spin off contact but not a bulldozer that regularly picks up yards after contact. Marginal power base and not going to push pile in short-yardage situations.

Passing Game: 3 - Height is an issue on tape. Small target that's tough to locate on check downs. Above-average pre-snap awareness in pass pro but can lose track of assignment once ball is snapped. Small hands and drops passes should catch but also flashes ability to extend and catch away from frame. Not a big-play threat after catch. Aggressive but doesn't have size to anchor and can whiff when throws cut block in pass pro.

Patriots like their RB to come from a pro-style running system where they are asked to catch, pass protect. White can do those things

Meh. Not crazy about Wisconsin running backs in general. They typically put up great numbers behind those massive offensive lines and then flame out in the pros. This kid White seems like a product of his system more than anything else.

Like who?  Montee Ball had a successful rookie season.

Before Ball, the last Wisconsin RB to be drafted was Brian Calhoun in 2006.

Seems like a guy drafted to do a very specific job, which is playing special teams and backing up Vereen in the third down back role.

Pats often take a few of these guys, with low ceilings but very clear role fits.

What stands out to me:

1) loose and flexible in the hips.
2) good pad level
3) fast acceleration in small spaces or popping putside.
4) not very physical
5) not the fastest guy.
6) somewhat elusive and good vision

You mean high-floor, low-ceiling?  Or are you just saying you hate the pick and he's terrible?

I don't buy some of these scouting reports on White.  I watched a lot of him in college, and I like him a lot.  I think he's got fantastic vision (watch the play at around 1:45 against Purdue in the first video that Red posted), and I think he has enough game speed to be an asset to an NFL team.  For what they are going to ask of him, I think they got a good player with this selection.
