I would have preferred that Josh ended up out of conference. But good for him. Josh leaving seemed inevitable given the success of the offense. If Josh does go, I guess I'm a little surprised that Daboll didn't ultimately end up in his job. There are undoubtedly many explanations but in the end, that seemed like such a natural.

I wonder whether the Titans job opening today might throw a monkey wrench into that report. Mariota, a better defense, and a more stable front office with Patriots ties vs Irsayville

If he goes to Colts, I hope he was provided with some of Luck's medicals that he could have reviewed independently. Irsay has been lying about Luck's shoulder to the fans for over a year.

How accurate is Rapsheet on Pats stuff? I don’t recall him breaking much. And I ask because he is beyond horrible on Redskins’ stuff

Even if Luck was 100% I would never want to report to Irsay. That org has been a mess for years. Bad choice if true.
Irsay sucks, but there will be extremely low expectations, plus an OC taking over a team with a franchise QB (if healthy) in Luck and #1 WR in Hilton could do a lot worse. Plus, if Luck isn't ready to go, who better to coach Jacoby than the guy who schemed for him last year?

I agree with E5 Yaz, I think Nashville is a better job. Even though he went to school with Polian's kid (that connection has too many degrees of separation at the present), being away from Irsay is a major factor, plus I disagree on expectations in Indy. (at least v. Nashville). Wherever Josh goes, I wonder if he doesn't bring his brother over from Chicago to be promoted from QC to QB coach. I agree with Theo, would have preferred he go to the NFC.

It all comes down to Luck’s health. If he is healthy, the Colts pretty instantly return to a playoff team under McDaniels. If he isn’t healthy, it’s a place to go and win 6-7 games a year and deal with a douchbag owner.

If Luck is healthy, McDaniels drafts a rookie QB to mold, deals us Luck to take over for Brady.

Win win.

I dunno if this is necessarily true - Titans probably take a step back if the Colts improve, but the Jags are an AFC finalist and I don't see anything on the horizon suggesting their team will take a significant backwards step next year. And there are enough mediocre-to-good teams in the AFC depending on the year that even with a healthy Luck you can't just pencil in the Colts as a wild card team.

All that said, if McD's three options were Indy, Tennessee, and the Giants, the Colts with a healthy Luck probably do present the easiest short-term path to the playoffs.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about Houston with a healthy Watson. The AFC South is actually a pretty loaded division if (big if) all the key players stay healthy. Figures that the Pats have to play that division next year.

Do they? The Colts are in the division with a team with a loaded defense that is in the AFCCG and has a real shot to make the SB, another team that made the Divisional Round of the playoffs and has a good young QB, and a team that has the best young QB in the AFC if not the league (some may prefer Wentz to Watson).

Even if Luck comes back 100% healthy, I don’t see them winning that division any time soon. At some point McDaniels had to cash in and get the head coaching job and pay raise but Indy is a curious move. There just isn’t very much top end talent in that organization.

One of the biggest factors in Luck getting injured was a horrific offensive line. Guess what? They still have a horrific offensive line.

You're in a division with two playoff teams, and a team that was a DeShaun Watson injury away from making a playoff run itself.

This concept that a healthy Luck makes the Colts a better job -- even w/o the Irsay factor -- is pure fiction

There's also rumors out about his likely OC(Jake Peetz from Raiders) and DC (Matt Eberflus from Dallas) choices.

So, either Indy really is a done deal or someone is leaking rapidly and widely to change the dynamic. If it's that, I could imagine Indy doing so (to try and get McD to commit to them and not explore TN) or McD's agent (if his preference really is TN).

Eberflus and Peetz sounds like a law firm from a Mel Brooks movie

where I was last at
Under the NFL protocol teams could only interview Josh during the bye week. So maybe 1) Josh wants to prep and win the Jags game and then interview with Tenn. during the SB bye week and weigh offers or 2) the Colts have extended an exploding offer, ie accept by today, or its off the table.

Daboll is from the Buffalo area which, I assume played a role in taking the OC job there.
