  • The goal to go sequence in the second quarter was horrendous. Just run the ball!
This is the shit that's driving me nuts about Patricia. You have 1st and goal from the 2-3 yard line, you run the ball and get it to the 1. Then you go shotgun and pass the next two times.

I can even deal with the passing calls, but out of the shotgun is making me insane. The Pats are actually a better offensive team under center, relative to the NFL, but they are coming out the shotgun constantly.

I agree with you...though the first play was beautifully designed and Mac made a 1 out of 10 quality throw to fuck it up. Still, I'd have just run it two more times.

But outside of that sequence, I really liked the playcalling.

Honest question, did Meyers know the score?
I’d have to imagine that he got lost in the moment once he received the first lateral.
This just absolutely blows my mind. Like. There should be dedicated, fixed unmanned cameras (like security type) that are on the end lines/sidelines at all times. It’s inexcusable that the league allows this to happen.
I was shocked that they never had an angle. I left the game thinking the replay official couldn’t reverse it without that proper angle but I’ve seen this pic posted and don’t think they could have overturned it anyway if this photo wasn’t doctored (it’s the internet so who knows).

Has anyone suggested that Stevenson be cut or benched? There was a couple folks saying Meyers should be cut/benched, but that's not the majority.

You did say what Rham did wasn't "terrible", which is objectively wrong. It absolutely was a mistake and he admitted as much.
What Rham did was arguably worse because it was unexpected and put his teammates in a spot where they didn’t know what the hell was going on and risked second guessing themselves, which is exactly what happened.

Obviously, neither he nor Meyers should be cut. People make mistakes. This one was a doozy, but they’ll learn from it and move on.

I like the quotes from both players in @BaseballJones’ post. They’re taking accountability for their actions and sticking up for each other. Especially Meyers - it would have been so easy for him to say “WTF?” and try to deflect some of the blame being poured onto him.

"It's not his fault," Meyers said of Stevenson. "He gave me the ball because he trusted me. I have to be smarter with it."

Stevenson took accountability, saying: "The coaches gave us a play just to kind of run the time out, just get down. I feel like I should have did just that. The playcall is just a draw play and nothing more, nothing less than that. I'm supposed to know the situation, I'm supposed to know how much time is on the clock. Critical situations. I failed to do that today."

The black is the tip of his cleat, not the endzone. He's pretty clearly out of bounds.

I’ve seen it about 50/50 from non-Pats fans and close to 100% that it doesn’t meet the criteria to reverse the call on the field. I don’t know how you can see that still shot and say that it’s clearly out of bounds. Without that angle however there is no way that is getting reversed.

I thought it was obvious he was out even with the shots FOX showed. That image just makes it more obvious. We'll have to disagree on it not being reversible.

Your post has a really lo-fi version of the picture. It's also weirdly trimmed at the bottom to make it more difficult to see where the cleat and OOB lines are - almost as if it was done intentionally. If you look at the one in the sideline camera thread (same picture, better quality + more coverage), there's no question he was OOB. Not only can you clearly see the cleat on the white line, but it's also kicking up white dust in front of the cleat from the impact of the toes (which we also saw in at least one of the TV replays but everyone ignored that for some reason). Someone would really have to have their Tuck Rule Patriots Hate goggles on to see him in bounds there.

Edit: Here you go.

Ah thanks! That shot is much more clear that he was out.

Don't see much difference between that play and the Agholor play that was overturned earlier in game.

A drunk female Giants fan did the same exact thing to me after the Pats lost in SB42. He handled that as well as you could have. Kudos to him and hope he gets to go to the game that Kraft invited him to.
I don't know the game you mention.

I saw on twitter an interview with the guy from the Raider's game who was getting harassed. He comes across as a really good guy. He says something to the effect of being mindful of "the way the world is these days," and you kind of understand how much race matters. If someone does that to me and I react, I probably get punched at worst. Others have to be a lot more mindful. Without video who knows if he gets the benefit of the doubt. Good for the Krafts here.

I just watched that video.

Honestly, that woman is just disgusting. No redeeming qualities, just abhorrent behavior. I'm happy the guy got invited by Kraft because that video is just deplorable. I'm sure that woman isn't racist or anything, some of her best friends are black.

I had a guy do this to me at Heinz Field in 2010 and it was before the game. I laughed at him and then I did fire back eventually and he got real belligerent. Finally his wife dragged him away.

Meyers said they were told to run the ball and go into OT. He thought he saw Mac Jones open and tried to be the hero.
It's just hard to fathom someone seeing a basically standing still Mac Jones and think "I bet that guy can create something in the open field and take it all the way to the house for a score". Even IF Mac Jones had caught that ball, what are the chances he even makes it 10-20 yards before someone runs him down?

That naked bootleg, assuming the coaching staff called that and it wasn't a Mac audible - egads was that tough to watch. Mac Jones is an incredible athlete compared to 90% of humans on earth. But in professional sports, he just doesn't have what it takes.

It's possible that Jacobi didn't realize either that they crossed the LOS or the rule states you can't throw it again.

By the way is it safe to watch SportsCenter yet? I've been avoiding it since that play

It's possible he didn't realize they had crossed the LOS? Rhamondre ran for 23 yards before lateraling to Meyers.

My guess is that 'think' really isn't the right verb. Dude panicked and acted but I'm fairly certain he didn't think at all.
