1. The referees, for giving the Raiders a free touchdown.
2. Bill Belichick, for having a team that is the opposite of clutch in every way. His great teams were known for discipline and focus and knowing their job. This team has none of that.
3. Mac Jones, for somehow having his worst game of the season against the league's worst (or near worst) pass defense. His mechanics were an absolute mess from start to finish.
4. Jakobi Meyers, because, dude, WTF?

Dishonorable mentions: The defense, for playing absolutely great football for most of the second half, then letting LV go through them like a kfine through warm butter to set up the non-TD/referee gift. They basically won the game for this team then all but gave it away (leaving the refs and Jakobi to do the rest).

Anyone who doesn't say Meyers is wrong. Lots of other people were bad, but they were just "regular football" bad. Meyers was Leon Lett-level, people-will-be-laughing-about-this-fifty-years-from-now level bad.

1. Mac Jones - he stinks, isn’t a competent NFL QB at this point, and is holding this team back greatly.
2. Jakobi Meyers - just a complete boneheaded play. Not sure what he was thinking. I feel bad for him.
3. NFL — screw job on the Patriots, again.

Everyone on O not named Rhamondre Stevenson. And the O coaches.

The D for collapsing again in the last 5 minutes. A grand tradition continues.

Special teams for that pitiful block. Again.

I’ve seen terrible Pats football in the 80s and 90s. I’ve seen very undisciplined teams under Pete Carol. But this one is atrocious in its own special way. They really need to blow up 75% of this roster and staff.

I'd blame Rham before Meyers. When he tossed it to Meyers I think he (Meyers) panicked

The disaster started with Rham

Mac and Jakobi

If Mac does literally anything good today they win easily. And Jakobi, poor guy, just made a legitimate candidate for worst play in league history. Their season just turned if not outright ended on something that was so bad it was funny.

Cardona

That's about it, they still probably should have won but for a bad call. The line was much better, the D was good, the running game was good, the playcalling was solid... execution from QB was the biggest problem most of the game along with Cardona's weird early snap on the blocked punt.

Honestly I'm baffled by the people saying the coaches... the coaches don't execute the plays, and execution was our biggest problem. The coaches aren't the reason Jakobi did something so stupid, the coaches aren't why Mac missed a ton of throws, (I don't even think the coaches are to blame on the blocked put, Cardona clearly screwed up the snap count).

Yup. The refs allowed LV to tie the game, then Meyers literally threw it away. There are other players who had poor games, but it will be completely lost in the disaster of what happened at the end.

The referees/NFL replay. Worst ref decision since no pass interference on Gronk in the end zone. The Pats were robbed in broad daylight.

Jakobi Myers.

End of discussion. Anything else is just done to further a tiresome agenda.

Bill Belichick.

Players are doing stupid stuff all over the field. As soon as #12 left, we became as stupid as every other team in football.

Yup, take a knee if you are going to run it. There were 8 defenders along the goal line, he's not going to score.
I assume that they didn't think Mac could throw it that far for a hail mary.
The running play is fine, we don't have the arm or the OL for a hail mary, and the Raiders had committed 87 penalties so far. Worth a shot.

Agenda? LOL. I’m the biggest BB homer ever. Maybe if the Pats ran the ball from the 1 the last play wouldn’t have mattered

If I’m saying fire BB, then 90% of Pats nation is.

Meyers is unfortunately the definition of a game goat. For everything else that happened, if he doesn’t do that, they go to OT. Love the guy, but he blew it tonight.

I'm on record as saying the play calling inside the five was atrocious. But if the NFL makes a correct call that even a blind man can see, the last play wouldn't have mattered. It never would have happened. Any argument that doesn't begin with that is agenda driven.

I posted in the BB thread during the first half. So no, it’s not agenda driven

So the whole league is out to get the Patriots and will go out of its way to cause them to lose? Is that really your position?

If you are going to run a stupid draw on the last play, just take a knee. There’s close to a zero percent chance that a draw there yields points, whereas a fumble or something else awful (like what happened) is probably much more likely. Take a fucking knee.

Not to mention the stupid penalties, idiotic play calling on first and goal from the two, terrible execution on the blocked punt. This team has all of the earmarks of the terribly coached teams the BB led Pats spent 20 years beating.

BB’s cheat code was just to let the other teams make the stupid mistake, which more often than not they did. Now we are the team that makes the stupid mistakes, over and over and over again.

Meyers made an idiotic play but where’s the situational football there? Why is he even trying that? Take a fucking knee and try to win in OT.

Meyers said they were told to run the ball and go into OT. He thought he saw Mac Jones open and tried to be the hero. I do not see how that is on the coaches. I just cant believe I watched that happen.

The odds of a fumble aren't that high without the laterals, and if you get lucky maybe they commit a penalty and you get a free win. Running there is a perfectly acceptable play call. Yah some playcalls earlier were bad, that's par for the NFL.

Fine then take a knee. Running a play there that has close to a zero percent chance of getting points just brings other outcomes into play, most of which are bad.

And again, if we are going to fellate BB for all of the situational football stuff he’s credited with over the years (which I think he legitimately deserves credit for) then you have to put at least part of this on him. Literally the only thing the Pats should have been trying to prevent on that last play is the exact thing that happened.

The last play is not on the coaches. But the fact that this team overall plays like it has dog poop for brains certainly is.

Mac, Meyers, and the receivers. Quite possibly the worst passing game of the season against a shit Raiders defense and with good pass protection. I am getting very close to being done with Mac Jones.

Here
Mac and Jakobi for me.

I honestly thought, outside that shitshow drive on the 1 (where Mac completely fucked up a wide open guy on 2nd down, to be fair), the offensive playcalling was really good, and the OL play was fantastic. The QB play was just horrendous, however. Mac was missing guys all over the field, both in terms of actual throws and reads. I think we're in time to move on territory with Mac, unless he has some miraculous turnaround in the last 3 games. He's either broken or doesn't have the tools, but changes there are needed.

Myers...I mean I feel bad for the guy. Clearly had a momentary panic and a very smart player made a very stupid mistake.

Once you check out the All 22, I think you'll be able to narrow it even more.

Gonna get lost in all the other plays but on 4th and 10 that would have ended the game, they gave Hollins a free 10 yard cushion and easy conversion.

I agree about taking a knee, but Rham has to know not to lateral and Jakobi has to know not to do whatever the fuck he did. There’s lots of blame to go around. The offense is an utter disaster.

I am right there with you. The pass he hit Meyers with - it seems like those are there for a decisive NFL QB w a half decent arm and a decent field vision. That we are lucky to get 1 or 2 a game is a huge indictment of Mac Jones.

I think he gets a third year. He is a first round pick who had success in year 1. He had a new offensive staff, they toyed with a new offense, he got hurt this year, and seems like he got a bit too big for his own britches. I would like to see them bring in someone to push him and then to have a real competition next year where he is the favorite but has to earn the job and keep earning it all year.

I think he's a good backup who can start behind a really good line with good weapons maybe, but I'd be looking for my next long-term starter beginning this offseason.

I'm not giddy, but I guess I'm amazed that my preseason 7-10 pick is still in play. How the hell...

This week's "take" section of Drew Magery's Jambaroo column on Defector discussed teams being dumb by not trying more planned laterals. Maybe Meyers is an avid reader?

Truly insane mistakes by the refs, NE coaches, NE secondary and Meyers to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

Lost in the last play of the game madness is forgetting this D gave up a 4th and 10 conversion and it wasn't competitive. Game is over if you can make one stop.

I almost feel bad for Meyers, he got carried away.

This team is so undisciplined and poorly coached in all 3 phases of the game, one bone head play by a guy who generally has exceeded expectations, means shit. We should thank Jakobi for giving us this gift on the first night of Chanukah that we will remember and eventually laugh about for a long fucking time. Now who's up for no limit Dreidel?

Also, yes the TD should not have been (by a toe) but in that situation you should not be relying on the NFL replay officials to bail you out. Allowing him to even be in position to make a “catch” like that is defensive malpractice.

Ugh. I don’t want to be associated with this team right now. If it wasn’t for fantasy I’d check out of the NFL completely and come back next season. If that makes me a shitty fan, so be it. It’s not fun watching them become (?) whatever they are going to be. Warmed over dysfunction with occasional echoes of competence. Mentally they take way more than they give right now. I actually think their record is fine for where they should be in the rebuild, but it’s an unhealthy “fine” that does not project (IMO) to being better next year or the year after. I’ll probably be past this tomorrow but I guess I needed to vent.

Game goats in chronological order:

1. I don't know who to blame for the early-game sequence near the goal-line in which they called two timeouts, whistled for a false start on fourth down, and ultimately settling for a FG.
2. Mac Jones for throwing deep to double-covered receivers and almost getting picked off because the high-arcing passes couldn't quite reach the receivers.
3. With a 24-17 lead in the fourth quarter and the Raiders pinned to their 19 on fourth down with less than 2 minutes left and no timeouts, the defense lets the Raiders complete chunk play after chunk play, giving them a chance to tie the game.
4. The officials for not overturning the TD catch in which the receiver stepped out of bounds. What angles did he have in reviewing the play?
5. The Patriots, getting the ball on the own 25, with 32 seconds left (and two timeouts), and deciding to try to march down the field for a late FG, apparently mistaking Mac Jones for Tom Brady.
6. Mac Jones, on the final drive, completing just 1 pass on 4 attempts for 8 yards. (Rhamondre had 2 runs totaling 31 yards, including the last play.)
7. Rhamondre lateraling the ball to Meyers, or anyone else, because no one had a prayer of scoring in that situation. Just go down and take your chances in OT!
8. Meyers running the wrong way and lateraling it to nobody in particular, and giving the Raiders the tie-breaking points. That whole sequence was so flabbergasting I could only laugh.

At least the Patriots had the first 26 minutes of the second half that was enjoyable. Too bad games are 60 minutes long.
