It’s worth noting the Bruins we’re playing good and aggressive hockey early on. They then got two back to back Ticky tacky penalties.

People like to pretend these penalties don’t have an effect, but now every Bruin has a part of their brain engaged in “got to be careful with how I play this” versus just going with the flow of the game. They are no longer just playing. They are thinking. And in game this fast the thinking takes too much time. Causes just enough hesitation.

It’s poison.

A few thoughts.

Not sure if something was wrong with my TV setup, but even though McDonough was OK, I thought the overall production value of the game was piss poor. The crowd was quiet. No mics on the ice. Weird camera angles. Just a bad watching experience IMO.

I was simultaneously encouraged and discouraged by that game. The first half was very good, but the Broons didn't cash in and at that point I knew it was unlikely they were going to win. The second half of the game was very discouraging.

The first line was invisible. I'll leave it to you all to decide if that's mostly on them or the Canes.

The second line was the best, led by Hall. He really turned it on in the 3rd.

The 4th line was surprisingly good, and it's because they had traffic through the slot. I didn't think the 3rd line was as bad as others have said, but I could be wrong about that. I think Smith got banged up in the 3rd (?), but I thought Coyle was OK.

The D was pretty bad outside of Chuckles.

Ullmark was fine, until he wasn't. He isn't going to steal games for us though, so this team either goes on a tear again or they don't.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
It's more likely they get swept than go on a tear. Too many things have to fall into place again. Marchand, Ullmark, the defense. Maybe it all clicks, maybe Carolina gets some injuries, maybe, but probably not.

The Bruins have shown all year they are a terrible matchup for Carolina. We have to believe it at this point.

Watching with bated optimism though.
