So, I'm trying to help my dad buyout his partner from his business. The guy hasn't been there in six months and is moving across the country. He made him a very fair (in my opinion too generous, but whatever) offer and gave him a hard copy of the last year to date (2019) of the business. The guy is now asking for a digital copy so his attorney and ex-wife accountant can more easily look it over. He has nothing to hide, he just is basing his offer cutting off at end of last year as the guy hasn't been there since COVID hit, so he doesn't want him in tune with everything. I'll add dad fucked something up and this year, his books are off vs his bank accounts. Nothing nefarious, he just is old and getting senile and fucked something up. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to isolate one year to send, be it on a memory stick or an email able version. Any format - Excel, actual quickbooks, whatever - is fine. I don't know quickbooks well enough to figure to out and i can't seem to find online how to do it.

Can someone who knows it help me out? If it helps, it 2018 QB, desktop. All i need is the list of transactions for one calendar year. TIA.

I'm a CPA in Canada, so I deal with QB a bit, but I do know the Canadian and the American versions are different, so I may not totally be on point here

You should be able to export the General Ledger for the year in question into an excel format.
It's a fucking pain to look at from the accounting side, but it should break it down nicely for them and it does have totals

Just need to run the General Ledger and make sure you pick the proper fiscal period, then you should be able to export it
Only issue is if it runs through the normal fiscal year end, then you'd need to basically run it twice and give them each of the periods they are looking for

Also, did you fix up the error your Dad made? If not, I'd recommend recording it properly if you can. If not, disclose that to the other party so you're not trying to hide anything (IANAL)
And since you mentioned it, if your Dad is getting old and senile, does it make sense for him to buy out the business, or should it just be sold and done with it. Totally unsolicited advice from me, but that's what I'd be asking my own client if they had this same situation
