Voted Fields but would be happy with any of the three QBs. BB isn't infallible but I'm willing to trust his (and probably Josh's) assessment of them, and certainly would give that assessment a lot more weight than anything from draft commentators on the Internet or a podcast.

I have mixed feelings (elation if it's Fields/Lance, horror if it's Mac).

I guess I have to go with Lance because deep down I think he'll be the better pro more often...plus he has my son's name.

But I'm not sure if I'd be any less excited if they got Fields - especially because the rest of the community would be so much more excited.

Fields.

I asked several friends around here in Georgia who are wired into high school and college football at various levels about Fields when he was up in Kennesaw and UGA and they all raved about the same two things: For all of his natural ability, he's (a) tough as nails both physically and emotionally, and (b) he's incredibly smart. They can't believe that he's not the consensus #2 overall pick and think that the Jets are making an enormous mistake passing on him.

At various times, I've been on the Mac Jones and Trey Lance bandwagons, but that's really only because I never once thought that Fields would be in striking distance for the Pats - I was sure that he'd go in the top 3. Now that he has inexplicably fallen possibly out of the top 5? I'd empty the draft pick tank for him.

Fields taking the shot to the ribs in the Clemson playoff game and coming right back after 1 play and slinging it around is what sold me on Fields. Never really thought he'd be a possibility for the Pats at 15, but he's my dream pick this year. I admit to not knowing a ton about Lance, however.

If the Niners pass on Fields at 3 you do what it takes to get up and get him. The Patriots will not be picking this high again probably so empty the tank for a legit young franchise QB.

I love these two data points. The other one that convinces me about Fields is the fact the opposite of what the talking heads were opining this morning on ESPN "Get Up" about why he is presumably dropping, namely that something must be wrong if he had those shitty games against IU and that he couldn't win the starting job at UGa -- I think those "failures" say more about his ability to overcome adversity and to bounce back, then just a long line of successes. How does any player do when faced with a challenge? We've seen Fields overcome. That clinches it for me.

Not winning the starting job at UGA means less than zero to me. Joe Burrow couldn't beat out Dwayne Haskins at OSU. Who cares?

Also, you can just call Kirby Smart if you want to better understand that decision. I guess he could bullshit you, but part of the job is gauging the reliability of the info you get, too.

It’s a non issue.

Yeah, honestly I'll say as someone who works with a few dozen UGA fans.... every one of them thought the Fields thing (at the time and later) was more indicative of the limitations of Kirby Smart as a coach than Fields as a player

It's interesting...I wonder if Zach Wilson would get many votes if he was added. Like if for some inexplicable reason the Jets traded us 2.

I'm guessing "no" since it's been a done deal that he's going to the Jets for so long so everyone has already talked themselves out of him.

I have him 4th, but I definitely think he's right in that same tier with Fields/Lance.

1. Lance
2. Fields
3. Jones

I'd be happy if they traded up to 10 or higher to get Lance or Fields (unless they give up a king's ransom), but I wouldn't be happy trading up for Jones. I'd be fine if at 15 Jones was available and they picked him.

But don't we all know BB is going to trade back and get a tackle?

I've already gotten myself irrationally excited for the Justin Fields era in New England. I feel like he should easily be the number two pick in the draft and the guys getting picked ahead of him all benefit from not having as much exposure. I saw The Ringer's last mock has us trading two firsts and a third for the 8th pick to get him and I'd be ecstatic if that happened, even if it's an overpay.

I'd have Wilson on par with Lance, both ahead of McCorkle, but a tier below Fields.

I'm really curious as to why. Is there anything in what you've seen from Fields that gives you doubts?
I posted this before, but my only hesitation to a full-blown Justin Fields mancrush is what happened at Georgia. Fields couldn't beat out Jake Fromm for the starting job, so he left. Of course he did great in Columbus, but Ohio State is a football factory. That team was absolutely stacked. Fields also struggled in the Northwestern game when his #1 target Chris Olave was out because of COVID protocol.

Plus, I think Lance has a chance to be transcendent. I'd love to take a big swing with him.

Fields struggled against a top 20 ranked team.

Lance's only game of 2020, he struggled against Central Arkansas.

When the calendar hit 2021 I was hoping Lance would fall to us and dreaming about jumping up into Fields range, now they're pretty much on the same tier to me (and, seemingly, in many mocks). I'm leaning Lance because I'm a sucker for "higher ceiling" talk, but I'll be thrilled with either. Not only are they both really exciting young QBs, but Bill going up to get one means he's excited too. Let's Fucking Go.

If you're a fan of NYJ or MIA, you have to be hoping that the Pats don't take a QB, especially not with anything later than 1-6, because if they do and that QB ends up better than Wilson or Tua, you're going to hating life for a long time.

Don’t want anything to do with McCorkle. Fields would be my choice. I think the learning curve on Lance is going to be two-three years and I don’t want to waste any of BBs remaining time on the sidelines, plus I think his bust potential is significantly higher than Fields.

I voted Justin Fields because I really want him in New England. But my gut tells me that the Jets draft him at #2, the Niners grab Kidz Bop McMahon, someone empties the warchest for Lance and Mac Jones ends up the QB of the future when he slides to #15.

I agree.

It's a bit of a cop-out, but if BB drafts a first-round QB, even if it's Mac Jones or Feleipe Franks, I have faith that he's getting a guy he really loves and that's good enough for me. I just can't see him taking Jones, thinking "he's only meh, but I really want to draft a QB and he's the best one I can get."

But if Mugsy's Jock is picking, Fields and then Lance seems like potentially the most fun. I get the jersey for Fields or Lance tomorrow... McCorkle would need to earn my love.*

EDIT: One good "Yankees Suck" chant at his introductory presser would do the trick.

I’m all in on Lance, but would be ecstatic with Fields as well.
Right on with this but I think the Niners are blowing smoke and are on Lance. If we ever get Lance I will pop a bottle of my prized Pappy Von Winkle and if we get Fields we get a wee dram of Lagavulin 16. If we get Jones I'm popping a Coors Lite

I'm never going to be excited about using a high pick on a guy who isn't even top 2 at his position in the draft. BPA, all day, every day.
"isn't even top 2 at his position in the draft".... But what if, say, guy #3 is at the most important position in the sport, and it just so happens that your team has a gaping hole/need at that position, and guy #3 is actually one of the best QB prospects in years (who just happens to be in a STACKED draft class at that position)?

The Bills, Ravens, and Chargers are so disappointed in their QBs who were not at the top 2 of their positions in the draft.

See this is silly for several reasons:
1. That a guy goes 3rd or 4th or even 5th at his position doesn't mean he wasn't the best or 2nd best player at his position (see the Mahomes/Watson draft, or the Allen/Jackson draft)
2. QB is the most valuable position on a team by such a huge margin that a league average starter on a rookie deal is worth more than a top 5 player at any other position.

If Belichick's #1 QB is available when they pick, then a) he's going to take that guy, and b) I will certainly trust him.

The odds of that happening are not high, I don't expect it to happen, and Belichick isn't passing on a CB or OT who he has as the best player at their position in the draft to take a leftover QB.

The people expecting the Pats to take Fields or Lance are probably going to be disappointed in a few hours.

But you are missing the fact that Slater and Sewell will be gone, so that is OT #3 (Darrisaw or AVT or whoever). Then Horn and Surtain will be gone, so Farley / Newsome is CB 3/4. And then Waddle and Chase will be gone, so Smith is WR3. And Parsons may be gone, so Collins is ILB2. Maybe the only player they could pick who could be #1 at his position is Barmore (or a safety - LOL). Or I guess an edge (Paye?).

We'll have to see it all play out. I won't be surprised to see them move up to get the tackle or corner they like the most.

Edit: also what my fellow Captain said above
