Paxton with 26 innings and counting! At this rate he'll breach the 40 IP threshold by the 4th of July.
38.1 IP as of end of the MIN game today. Good start today - old friend Vaz 3 run HR the only blemish unfortunately on a 96mph middle middle FB. Likely have to pay out as of his next start - which is actually a great thing!

I never liked Vaz but when he hit a HR it was always fun to see the joy he expressed…. I was glad to see him crank one yesterday and extra so in that it had no effect on the outcome

Challenge: I've got $100 for the Jimmy Fund that says that Yoshida puts up at least 25 HR and 40 Doubles this year. I dare you to bet against that.
I will accept ookami7m's bet, even though I agree with his assessment of Yoshida-san. But this is my way to give money to the Jimmy Fund.

Just as an update as we approach halfway. Masa is on 17 2B and 7 HR which is roughly pacing 40 and 16 assuming same % of games played etc.

I mean I'm going to be giving to the JF anyway, but this one looks like it could be close

I'll donate up to $200 to the Jimmy Fund -- $25 for every calendar month (April to October inclusive) in which Enrique Hernandez hits at least one home run, and another $50 if he hits more than 10.5 for the year (playoffs included)
Welp, Enrique not finishing as a Red Sox is not something I contemplated. Dodgers stats will count.

As one of the few posters on this board who has been excited for the 2023 Red Sox basically since the end of the 2022 World Series, this has been an incredibly long and frustrating offseason. Watching 75% of you turd buckets melt down 22.5 hours a day from November until February was like having my toe nails ripped out, one at a time, over and over. I am glad I don't live in Boston anymore, because if this offseason is the way the reasonable and thoughtful people that we are supposed to be on this board act when discussing baseball, then I can't imagine trying to chat with Sully from Southy about the Sox.

So, it's time. The season starts next week and I have spend 5 months trying not to rip my hair out reading the oozing panic all over SoSH, and 90% of you are probably tired of my optimism. Sadly, I live off of my military retirement, and just had to take out $15K in home repair loans, so I can't make any crazy, life changing wagers, but:

I HEREBY DECLARE AND LET IT BE KNOWN THUSLY:

I WILL TAKE ON THE FIRST FOUR (4 for those of you who can't read number words) SoSH CHALLENGERS UNDER THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1) If the Red Sox finish the 2023 season below 81 wins, I will pay $50 per challenger to the Jimmy Fund.

2) If the Red Sox finish the season with 81 or more wins, but miss the playoffs, I will pay $25 per challenger to the Jimmy Fund, and each challenger will pay $25 to the Jimmy Fund (or the charity of their choice)

3) If the Red Sox make the playoffs, each challenger will pay $50 to the Jimmy Fund (or the charity of their choice).

4) If the Red Sox win the World Series, all four challengers and myself will pay $50 to the Jimmy Fund (or the charity of their choice), and everybody fucking wins.

You have until Sunday, 2 April, at midnight to accept this challenge.

Bring on the regular season, for fuck's sake.

DONATIONS

1. Average Game James: $1 for every IP by James Paxton
I owe $200 to the Jimmy Fund for @Coachster, @streeter88, @Pozo the Clown, and @NickEsasky.
Never would have thought I'd be making that donation on the day Tim Wakefield dies of brain cancer. F*ck.
RIP Tim. Float three past the doorman on your way in. You'll never be forgotten down here.

Finished at 33 doubles and 15 dingers. I’ll have that donation out after payday this week.

Time to square up for me as well. $100 to the Jimmy Fund in the name of @Bob Montgomerys Helmet Hat for the two side bets on Paxton and Sale. And since both Sale and Paxton exceeded 5 QS and 40 IP where I had no confidence that either would contribute in any meaningful way in 2023, I will double the donation - the second $100 to remember my sister who died of brain cancer in 2019. As @Heating up in the bullpen alluded to, probably as good a day as any to pay up. RIP Wake.

I will go through this week and figure everything out and update the OP.

My payment will probably go through on Nov 1st when I get paid next because of stuff that has come up over the summer and budget constraints.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure we're all working on the honor system here, but thought I'd share the confirmation of my gift to the Jimmy Fund's Defy Cancer fund In Memory of Tim Wakefield #49.

I’ll count Dodgers’ playoffs for the Enrique challenge. At $125 now. If he hits one more, he gets an October HR ($25) and goes over 10.5 ($50) getting to $200. So, something to root for in the playoffs.

I'm paying my Paxton bet today when I get to work. I'm doubling it for Wake and everybody who has had a loved one deal with cancer.

Fuck cancer.

I've matched this donation, in honor of Tim Wakefield, and also because I'm looking forward to Yoshida-san's even better season next year.

It’s pretty late on the East Coast, but wondering what the final washup was? Other than that the Sox are looking significantly more positive than the Pats, despite their dramatic collapse vs their / our midseason hopes…

So, the season ends for Enrique. But he went out properly. With his October 1 home run, Enrique earned an additional $25 (for an October home run) and an additional $50 (for getting over 10.5).

He pretty much earned the full boat of $200 for the Jimmy Fund. This was fun. Let's do it again next year.

I mentioned this in the 'breakup with a friend' thread, but I won my bet on Sox wins against my cousin. He picked 68, I picked 86, so midpoint was 77 and they eked out 78 wins. He ignored 2 emails so I sent $50 to the Jimmy Fund yesterday, In His Honor, so he will be getting a letter from the Jimmy Fund shortly letting him know the donation was made.
