PUPs and other lists

I haven't seen any mention of this item from ESPN: Pats put Dominique Easley on PUP list.

This sucks, and also raises the spectre of "biggest Pats draft bust ever..."

On the brighter side of things, the LBs aren't on the PUP.

No doubt there will be people coming and going from PUP, IR, and non-football-injury (hello, Matt Flynn!) lists - I thought it would make sense to have a thread for related discussion.

RE: Easley.

It could have been as simple as he's not quite ready to pass his physical yet.  I assume that's true of most of the other PUP players as well (I did not know LaFell was hurt, for example).  A week or two of rehab time is not the end of the world, and at least the PUP keeps the team's options open.

Whoa. Slow down, there. It's just preseason PUP - he could be off it by the end of the week.

Sorry - got hit with the backwash from the FrameGate thread. Deep breathing...beer...maybe I'll spin 3 Little Birds in honour of SV!

Any of them could be off tomorrow. LaFell got injured in the Week 17 game and played through it during the playoffs. He said he's good to go. I wouldn't worry about anyone that goes on any list between now and Week 1.

This is probably the right place to put out the normal disclaimer:

Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes.

So, as roster cut-downs draw near, you can't stash someone on the PUP list if he has participated in any practices.

Agreed this could be a "formality".

Besides....Easley was pretty fucked up when we drafted him 2 Knee surgeries before even signing with the pats.  It was a Ruthian Swing.  If we made contact he had a potential top 10 talent.  If we missed .....well we missed.

Hard for me personally to classify that as Biggest pats draft bust ever even if he never plays a down with obvious guys like Sims, Eason, Dykes and Chung (OL variety) and arguable ones like Maroney, Jackson and Bethel Johnson and Dowling all in contention.

Agreed Easley is basically "Bust Proof".  It was clearly a risk/reward pick.  It was certainly a gamble, but for a team coming off an AFC Championship game and into a season in which they won a Super Bowl it was the type of gamble that the Pats were more then justified in taking.  I'm really excited to see what Easley brings this year and I'm still in my early season Patriots extreme optimism phase, so I'm predicting a break out season.

How is not Aaron Dobson not on this list?

He was a second rounder. Sims, though...I thought about that before I posted. First overall. And didn't he show up to his signing in a cast? For sure, he was in casts plenty thereafter

Blount, Branch and Hauptmann placed on non-football injury list.  Since those three dudes are fat and I'm pretty sure today was conditioning run day, I'm going to hazard a guess that  there's a correlation.

If so, between this and the no-show at OTAs, Branch is trying hard to make himself unpopular, eh?
