No hits for either team through 5 in DET/TOR, Stroman vs. Zimmermann. I believe Zimmermann's is a perfect game.

Kluber has one through 5 against MIN too, only 41 pitches (!).

Stroman's is gone, the other two guys have very low pitch counts but are both only through 5.

Zimmermann with six perfect, just 55 pitches.

Kluber just gave up a double to Buxton in the 6th, both those games are still 0-0 too.

Every spring I love these games so much, vow to get Extra Innings, but can't pull the trigger on the payment. Anyway, the Perfecto was fun while it lasted.

Hess vs the Blue Jays, through 6.1 innings. Guy just lined out to short, and new manager came in and puled him (he did try to talk him out of it). At 82 pitches.

Hess was also on 3 days rest after having thrown 42 pitches in his previous relief appearance.

Not arguing. But it was strange. MLBN guys were not thrilled and neither was the crowd (it was in Toronto). That being said, I'm glad to see a manager take care of a kid's arm and not care about he no hitter or let himself be convinced otherwise. And it's a rookie manager to boot.

Going back to his first start, Bauer hasn't allowed a hit in his past 10⅔ innings pitched... 1 hit in 14 innings this season. He became one of the best pitchers in the game last season after spending a winter recreating his slider. Now he may have done the same with his changeup.

The cradle of the game.
Rockies' German Marquez, no hits, no walks at SF through 7. (One HBP).

Edit: Lost it after 7 1/3. Pssssssst strikes again.

Mike Fiers is through 8 innings, 118 pitches and a 2-0 lead against OAK. He had a no-hitter in 2015 for HOU, that was 134 pitches.

This was so fun to watch as all no-no's are! He really had all the breaks from Laureano & Profar; and he located well.

Lot of pitches! He's gonna feel that in a couple days.

Is Fiers the worst pitcher to throw 2 or more no-hitters? Here's the full list:

Hall of Famers: Addie Joss, Bob Feller, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, Jim Bunning, Nolan Ryan, Pud Galvin, Randy Johnson, Roy Halladay, Sandy Koufax, Warren Spahn.

Pre-20th century: Adonis Terry, Al Atkinson, Larry Corcoran, Ted Breitenstein

Career numbers of everyone else:
Homer Bailey (89 ERA+)
Bill Stoneman (90 ERA+)
Hideo Nomo (97 ERA+)
Bob Forsch (98 ERA+)
Mike Fiers (99 ERA+)
Frank Smith (101 ERA+)
Carl Erskine (101 ERA+)
Tim Lincecum (104 ERA+)
Ken Holtzman (105 ERA+)
Steve Busby (105 ERA+)
Johnny Vander Meer (107 ERA+)
Don Wilson (109 ERA+)
Allie Reynolds (109 ERA+)
Jake Arrieta (113 ERA+)
Dutch Leonard (115 ERA+)
Jim Maloney (115 ERA+)
Mark Buehrle (117 ERA+)
Virgil Trucks (117 ERA+)
Justin Verlander (126 ERA+)
Max Scherzer (130 ERA+)

Looks like it's Bailey, although he has a chance to turn it around a little and leave it to Bill Stoneman. Fiers has been a better pitcher than I thought.

s Fiers the worst pitcher to throw 2 or more no-hitters?
While Bobo Holloman only threw one no-hitter, it came in his first of his only three MLB wins--May 6,1953, for the Browns at home against the Philadelphia Athletics. His last appearance in the majors was July 19th.

Is Fiers the worst pitcher to throw 2 or more no-hitters?
It's Al Atkinson, and as you alluded to, Bailey is worst active and second overall, Fiers second worst active and third worst overall. Using the Jamesian formula to determine expected no hitters, here are the numbers for each for one, let alone two.

Fiers: 0.110
Bailey: 0.095
Atkinson: 0.049

This formula does better with a greater body of work with larger sample sizes, has a good hit rate among total active pitchers: Of 21 actual no hitters, this formula expected 19.808. Ryan (2.715) and Koufax (1.213) are the only two ever to have a number over one.

Something to throw around, not quite sure where it goes, figure this is the best place. Tom Tango and I were discussing when a no hitter or perfect gane becomes greater than a coinflip, or above 50%. He said two to three batters to go for the former, two exactly for the latter.

Greinke with a no-no through six against NatsTown, just 59 pitches.
