Bill Belichick is at Clemson today, according to @ClemsonFB. Southern scouting road trip continues. Many draft prospects at Clemson.

Players of note, all on defense:

OLB Vic Beasley (1st round grade). Strong edge rusher. Don't see it as a great fit for the Pats.

ILB Stephone Anthony (2-3 round). Big, strong MLB could add depth.

DT Grady Jarrett (2-3 round). A bit undersized, but a disruptive interior presence. Fits better in 4-3 DL vs 3-4 DT role, IMO.

DE Corey Crawford (4-5 round). Don't know too much about him, but has good size (6'5", 280).

I need to watch some tape on these guys to get a better feel, but Anthony sticks out as LB depth in the 2nd/3rd round, esp with Mayo and Hightower coming back from injuries. He's got the size BB typically likes.

Anthony is interesting because the scouting book on him seems to be that he wasn't quick enough in coverage and might be more of a two down MLB but he killed the agility and speed drills at the combine.  Maybe he's just not quick enough on the field, but there's at least some reason to believe that he's got more upside than a two down player.

I'm not sure that the Pats would want to take an LB as high as the 2nd but I can definitely see them doing so with one of their picks in the late 3rd/early 4th (our assigned pick at 96 overall, our comp pick, or the Mankins trade pick).  I think the plan is probably to lock Collins up long term but that they may let Hightower walk after 2015.  So adding an LB that could be groomed to step into that position in this draft makes a lot of sense.

Some Pro Day Results results I have found interesting so far.

Non Combine Players:

Illinois State WR Cameron Meredith - 6'3 3/8, 207 lbs ran 4.42 in the 40, had a 39 inch vertical, 10'7 broad jump, 4.17 short shuttle and 6.76 three cone. His video makes him look like a good route runner.

Arizona WR Austin Hill - 6'2, 214 lbs ran the 40 in 4.57, had a 10'9 broad jump and 36.5 inch vertical, the short shuttle in 4.03 and the three cone in 6.65.

New Mexico CB SaQwan Edwards - 6'0, 200 lbs ran 4.52 in the 40, had a 36 inch vertical, 10' broad jump, 4.13 short shuttle and 7.01 3 cone. His numbers are good, not great for a CB, but I like how physical he is in his video. He converted in 2013 from WR, so he's still raw. At the least, I think he would be interesting as a ST candidate.

Purdue WR/KR/RB Akeem Hunt - 5'9 3/4, 189 lbs. Ran 4.36 in the 40, had a 37 inch vertical, 10'2 broad jump, 4.11 short shuttle and 6.71 3 cone.

Interesting Combine Players:

Auburn DB Jermaine Whitehead, who had good agility at the combine improved his 40 from 4.59 to 4.48. Per walterfootball.com BB worked out both Auburn DTs, Angelo Blackson and Gabe Wright when he visited Auburn.

Arizona State OG Jamil Douglas improved his short shuttle from 4.75 to 4.58 and his 3 cone from 7.99 to 7.73.

Western Oregon WR Tyrell Williams - 6'3 1/2, 204 lbs ran a 4.42 40 yard dash, had a 39 1/2 inch vertical a 10'7 broad jump a 4.11 short shuttle and a 6.55 three cone drill. Videos here. He's an interesting athlete, but likely needs a fair amount of development to be a NFL WR. The fastest 3-cone from a WR at the combine this year was 6.63 from Justin Hardy and Justin Coleman had the fastest of any position at 6.61.

I'm confirmed for William & Mary's Pro Day on Thursday. I really need a sub-4.55 40 or my draft stock is gonna plummet.

Kidding, but am intrigued to see who is there NFL-wise. I like what I've seen of McBride and I know I'm not the only one.

Western Oregon wide receiver Tyrell Williams is visiting the New England Patriots, according to Rob Rang of CBSSports.com.

Don't be surprised if the Bengals draft Tre McBride. Spent a lot of time looking at him this morning.

He certainly fits what they're looking for in a burner who can return kicks. And even as a rookie, it'll be hard to bring less to the table in the passing game than Tate did.

Any Patriots reps there today?
Yep. About fifteen teams here. I've got a list but off the top of my head: Pats, Colts, Ravens, Chiefs, Jags, Raiders, Browns, Bengals, Texans, Washington, Titans, 49ers and Eagles.

A guy who did well today was DE Mike Reilly. Was Conference DPOY and should have been a combine invite. 26 bench reps, 4.7 ish 40 (my hand time, they don't list "official" times) and a 4.18 shuttle which would have been near the top of DEs at the combine. Looked good in positional drills too.

Rice's Bryce Callahan (CB) wasn't a Combine invite, but he measured at just a little over 5'9" but jumped 11' in the broad and 43" in the vertical and ran a 4.4 40. Interesting to see where he ends up.

I really want to see the Patriots go after Kyle Emmanuel from NDSU.  He's another Ninkovich in training.

UConn pro day today.  CB Byron Jones and WR Geremy Davis doing their thing.  Would love to see either or both fall to NE, but can't imagine they use a high draft pick for either one.

Catching up on some interesting pro day performances.

Non combine players

Marshall CB Darryl Roberts ran the 40 in 4.36, had a 39 inch vertical, a 11-1 broad jump, ran a 4.08 short shuttle and 6.66 3-cone. Senior highlights here not the strongest tackler, but good in coverage.

West Virginia RB Dreamius Smith 5-10 5/8, 223 lbs. Ran the 40 in 4.50 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical, 10-4 broad jump, a short shuttle time of 4.16 seconds and ran the 3-cone in 6.87 seconds. Video here while he's not a bulldozer of a runner, he breaks arm tackles and seems to get through holes he shouldn't.

BYU WR Jordan Leslie 6-1 5/8, 204 lbs, 10 1/4-inch hands. Ran the 40 in 4.41, had a 36 inch vertical, a 10-foot-10 broad jump, 4.08 shuttle and a 6.87 3-cone. Video against Cal showed he has a ways to go as a WR, but the hands, height and athleticism are interesting. Patriots assistant special teams coach Ray Ventrone was at the work out although I suspect he was more likely there to see S Craig Bills video here. Bills is 6-1 1/8, 205 lbs. He ran the 40 in 4.48, had a 33 inch vertical, a 9-4 broad jump, a 4.42 shuttle and a 6.95 3-cone.

Combine players

LSU DE Danielle Hunter 6-5, 252 lbs, 34 1/4" arms and 10 1/2" hands. Ran the 40 in 4.57 at the combine, but did the rest of the work at his pro day. He had a 36.5 inch vertical, a 10'10" broad jump, ran the shuttle in 4.47 seconds and had a 6.95 second 3-cone. Video here he is very slow off the snap as a DE and not a great pass rusher, but he gets his arms into opposing tackles and does a good job getting leverage to set the end. Interesting candidate for a conversion to LB.

Samford S Jaquiski Tartt 6-foot-1 3/8, 218 lbs. At the combine ran a 4.53 40 and a 10-4 broad jump. At his pro day had a 4.47 seconds 40, a 33 inch vertical, a 10-foot-3 broad jump, a 4.29 shuttle a 7.03 3-cone. Video from 2013 is here, which I highly recommend, at the FCS level he is an absolute menace as a tackler, hard to tell how he is in coverage.

Am I the only one who thinks Winston looks overweight and gimpy? His accuracy looks decent, but nothing to write home about, though that's something nerves could explain. It's the weight and odd looking movement that would give me pause.

Is he injured? Looks like he's struggling to even walk around.

Only thing I can think of is that he injured his ankle in November against Louisville. Maybe he played through it and had surgery after the season?

Add Western Oregon WR  Tyrell Williams to that list.  If legit, a 6.55 three cone is pretty insane, especially for a relatively big WR.

Williams excelled after participating in Oregon State’s pro day on March 13. The 6-foot-3 receiver ran a 4.42 second 40-yard dash; 39 1/2 inch vertical; 4.22 second shuttle drill; and a 10 foot, 7 inch broad jump.

Williams’ highlight was the three cone drill, which tests agility. Williams finished in 6.55 seconds, which would have given him the top time at the NFL draft combine earlier this year.

The word from UConn pro day was Byron Jones did better than expected.

As previously mentioned, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer ran the workout, even coaching Jones at one point on specific techniques he employs with his cornerbacks. I further confirmed the 40 times on Jones, as most teams had him in the mid 4.3s on his first attempt and slightly slower on the second run. For example, Baltimore Ravens senior personnel assistant George Kokinis timed Jones at 4.38 on the first 40, then 4.45 on the second run.

I'm told the Carolina Panthers met with Jones last night then again today after the workout, while the New England Patriots had breakfast with the cornerback this morning.

It's not a full profile since there's not a lot of tape, but I did get a chance to break down another game since and it doesn't contradict anything I wrote. CFF (PFF's college charting) says "QBs had a passer rating of 26.3 when targeting UConn CB Byron Jones." Here's a pick against ECU:

My binkie Geremy Davis of UConn had a very good pro day today (I thought the UConn pro day was gonna be yesterday…my bad).  He ran a 4.45, which is faster than people thought he could run.  Legit 6'3", 217 pounds, incredibly strong (I think he ranked as one of the very strongest WR in the combine).  Tore up the combine in the gauntlet drill - one of only 6 WR all combine to not drop a single pass in that drill.

Dude is ripped.

The Patriots(although not in attendance today) are interested in Stony Brook TE Will Tye(FSU transfer.)  At 6'3" and 260 lbs., he was also our punt returner.  Didn't get as many looks as he could have because our offense is primarily run-base but he's a very good player.  He ran a 4.49 40 which is the fastest time of any TE in the draft.

The Packers, Broncos, Colts, Bills, Jets and Chiefs all had scouts here today.

I'd love to see Diggs in a Pats uniform.  He has always reminded me of a faster Troy Brown, with maybe slightly worse hands.  Great elusiveness in the open field, and pretty sure-handed in special teams.  He had some injury issues during his sophomore and junior years, but he showed flashes of brilliance during his senior year and looked to be about 100% recovered from his broken leg and lacerated kidney.  His college stats weren't mind-blowing, but much of that was due to the Maryland QB situation the last few years, which has been mostly horrendous (for instance, they had a freshman scout team linebacker as their starting QB for four games in 2012).
