Sixteen-year-old Barbecue Yee's attempt in pursuing a career in baseball took an unexpected turn last year when the principal of Deering HS refused to let him play for the varsity baseball team after he transferred to that school, saying "he sincerely believed that Yee, who lives in Falmouth had transferred to Deering for athletic purposes." Yee's father sued, claiming that not playing varsity would stunt his athletic growth and could even cause lasting "economic harm."

He lost the case and Barbecue is now combining on-line home school courses with classes at Falmouth while honing his catching and pitching skills with private lessons, daily workouts at Hitters School in Saco, and travels to baseball camps, clinics, and club-team opportunities.

Didn't know where else to put this but the name cannot be overlooked; although, it does also appear in 2019 Names of the Year:

The only nickname more appropriate for a Catcher than Pudge would be Barbecue. And I don't know what I expected Princehoward Barbecue Yee to look like, but he ended up looking exactly how he should.

Falmouth's baseball coaches must be pretty bad for a kid prospect to go all the way to Maine to avoid them. Must be something more to it.

It's probably got more to do with another catcher at the school or something like that. Regardless, the kid is cool by me.

Sorry. I automatically think of the one on the Cape. I played a season at FHS about 200 years ago.
