Where’s Breer?

NFL Network national reporter Albert Breer, formerly of the Globe, has been conspicuously absent during coverage of both conference championship games as well as this week’s buildup to the Super Bowl. He also has not had a column published on NFL.com since Jan. 4. A network spokesperson told Sports Illustrated.com’s Richard Deitsch last week that Breer was on “a temporary leave of absence from NFL Media.” I got the same response, with the addendum, “As this is an internal matter, we will have no further comment.” Breer, who has been at the NFL Network since October 2010, responded to a message but said he could not comment.

From Chad Finn this morning.

Something odd's going on with Breer. Not that he's a big loss, he's a useless pustule who retweets Schefter like they're his own insights. But it sure looks like he's been suspended/about to get fired by the NFL network. He showed up on 98.5 today and it sounded like he was presenting himself as still working for the network, but it sure seems otherwise.

Breer, BTW, is a favorite BB target for pointing out all the stupid questions he asks.

Not a huge fan, but he at least makes for some interesting sound bites with BB - as pointless as some of the questions can be.

Eagerly awaiting this thread title being changed to "Prince Albert has been canned"

Nobody Cares
He's still on.  Doing the entire Gresh & Zo show, I guess.  Hasn't said much, nobody has alluded to his possible professional demise.  Mostly inane babble and a paucity of football talk, like a typical Gresh & Zo show with Breer.

Heh.  He must be angling for a landing on his feet gig at TSH or something.

The Granite State
Or a replacement for one of the daytime snoozers at 'EEI.

Other than his Twitter rants against USAirways and his incessant, hyperbolic pimping of tOSU football, I don't think he's bad at all as an NFL Network reporter.

And he's got his fallback career as a pustule as a viable option, too.

I don't get the Breer hate. He's not the best reporter out there but as a breaking news / NFL beat type guy he fits a good role. Seems to have a decent personality, gives good BB soundbytes etc.

The OSU stuff is annoying but its more a running joke at this point.

Well, Breer is on the new CSNNE show "Early Edition" with Gary Tanguay tonight.  I don't recall him being on CSNNE previously.

Breer is one of those guys who I know I really disliked at some point, but I've now managed to avoid him for so long that I can no longer remember why I first stopped reading/paying attention to him.  Sounds like I made a good decision at the time, though!

I'm somewhat surprised by the Breer hate too. Nothing special but he gets the job done and I generally find him entertaining on the radio. He pokes and prods Belichick, sure, but it makes for good sound and I'm sure he knows he's not going to get anything from it.

What's more interesting here is that it's a question of what did he do? He wouldn't be suspended just for perceived mediocrity. Wonder if it was an outward-facing (ie plagiarism, something along those lines) or internal (issues with management) sort of thing.

No reason NFLN should give air time during Super Bowl week to a mediocre reporter they're planning to jettison when his contract expires in May. My guess is NFLN agreed to let Breer do local media appearances this week so he could get an early start on his job search.

Interesting looking at the offense/defense rankings of past Super Bowl champions ... Shows that defense wins in SBs now more than ever.

- SF had a better defense than BAL by nearly every measure, and
- last year's SB ended 34-31, hardly a defensive clinic.

He's a dolt.

Right. If anything, in the past few years there have been a number of teams whose defense was no great shakes during the regular season and then put everything together just in time for a Super Bowl run ('12 Ravens, '10 Giants, '07 Giants, '06 Colts).

Right.

#2 ranked SF defense in pts (#3 in yds) against the 12th ranked Bal defense in pts (#17 in yds)

Or 25th ranked Giants against the 15th ranked Pats.

God he's stupid. And as evidenced by the tweets Corsi quoted, obnoxious to boot.

I can't find it on their website, but one of the guys from ColdHardFootballFacts was on F+M last week and was saying that defenses have tended to win championships, by the numbers. I don't know much about their credibility (aside from the credibility lowering name) but it seems like a pile on to suggest someone is completely insane for suggesting this idea today.

Clearly the NFL Network disagrees...it's not just some posters in here.
