Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Also offering 20% off select items in the Warehouse, but once again, when you click on the banner for the list of items that include that extra discount, it's a total crap shoot if the item you click on actually gets the discount.

EDIT: qualifying items do show a "Prime Savings 20% off at checkout" tag in your cart and on the final checkout page.

So if I need to buy something from Amazon, I should wait until 9 pm tonight and it might be cheaper?
No real answer for that. It's a crap shoot. And 9pm isnt some magic MLB trade deadline: item could show up on sale any time tomorrow.

Potential work around if you order right now: opt for slowest shipping. It can give you more time to cancel, if you find it cheaper.

As is usually the case with Amazon they are mostly pushing off brand junk. I'm sure your Best Buy purchase is light years ahead of any of the Prime TVs.

Kinda was hoping to snag a Nvidia Shield, FireTV, and a 46 or so inch TV out of this. On top of some various other small items I've been putting off.

$20 off on the Shield and no TV deal catching my eye isn't exactly selling me though.

Had the Amazon 55" 4K TV in my cart and that shit sold out before I could hit buy. I know it's not a great TV but it's for my office so I can watch Sox games in 4K when DTV records them and so I can move my existing office TV to my guest BR. What a bummer that they sold out so fast.

Edit: If you don't want to use the SoSH link for some reason, at least make sure you use smile.amazon.com instead of www.amazon.com. You can donate a portion of most sales to just about any charity you want without it costing you anything.

Snagged an Echo for $80, an Echo Dot for $35, a Fitbit Flex 2 for $60 (gift for the gf), a Roku Premiere + for $80 and 3 10kmAh power banks for $10 each (two headed to friends I threw in for that don't have Prime). Then a bunch of little stuff like lightning cables, HDMIs and one of those iPhone tags so dad can find his keys.

All in all, not bad as far as I consider. If I had caught the rumored deal upthread of a 'premium brand 55'' 4K TV' for $600 I likely would have pulled the trigger on that, but either they went quick (maybe the one jercra is referencing, but it said premium brand) or it's not out yet.

I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow, but I probably shouldn't spend anymore money on shit I don't need.

If you're looking for something similar, but slightly more expensive, I just picked up this Samsung from Best Buy for $530 including tax. Certainly a more trustworthy brand than TCL and all the reviews I read are that it's a steal at about $300 off.

I went to BB last November looking for a cheap 32" TV and ended up scoring one of these for $300 because they wanted to unload inventory before Black Friday. It's totally legit, by far the best TV I've ever owned. Would have happily paid twice what I did.

Got the Sony 55" for $499 plus tax. Had a $500 gift card from work that I cashed in. So it cost me $37.50 out of pocket. WOOT!

I got the Instant Pot for $89.99 which is a great deal. I have friends who have raved about it so I am really excited.
It's pretty sweet. I bought the wife one for Mother's Day because I wanted one. It a little intimidating at first but once you get a handle for the different features it's great.

I can't help but feel that this is basically an overhyped garage sale. I don't think I've ever bought anything during Prime Day.

There's an ocean of useless junk that you need to sort through in order to find the deals actually worth considering. Granted, the internet does a good job of doing the sifting for you. But like 99% of the stuff on sale is total garbage.

Maybe it's because all of the actual deals are on items I already own, or on things I have no need for, but I feel like Prime Day is always a big let down. On Black Friday I can almost always find SOMETHING worth buying. Prime Day has always been a disappointment for me.

Funny, I feel the same about Black Friday, but that's probably because most of the big ticket deals have like five per store and you have to fight the crowds at two AM if you want any shot. I've never really done Cyber Monday so I'm not sure how it compares to that, but I feel while there's certainly a bunch of crap on Prime Day, there's also more quality stuff than the few BFs I've ever gone to, which I feel most kind of market it....predatorily? That's not the right word, but my point is they throw up the big deals they have a few of to get you in the store so you buy other crap that - yes them too - are trying to get off inventory.

Thing I like about Prime Day is to be able to get small crap for cheap - like a $60 power bank for $10 or a pack of 10 lightning cables for $15 - or to jump on Amazon products themselves. If I had gotten nothing but an Echo for 50% off, with pretty much unlimited supply, I'd have been happy. I was able to add a lot of little things, some medium things like sheets for $25 that usually are $125, and then some electronics at good discounts. Some friends looking for different targets got some great deals on stuff with no issue. From the comfort of my couch with free delivery.

Your point stands though, there's a ton of crap that will likely end up at a Five Below or Dollar Store by next week, but I think they do a good job of giving you a heads up on the good stuff and when it's coming open. And we likely have different goals on it. I don't look at it for a tv or stuff like that. If it had been there I likely would have grabbed one, but tvs are cheap now unless you're looking for super high and it would have just been justifying it to myself. Shit, I was in BJs today and saw a 60" LG 4K 2160p for $599. It wasn't even on sale.

What's the parameters of a good deal and also the comparison to other such 'big days'?
Its an improvement from last years Prime day

The Wirecutter‏Verified account @wirecutter 5h5 hours ago
The Wirecutter Retweeted The Wirecutter

To compare: By the end of last year's Prime Day, @WirecutterDeals had scanned 7,950 deals and found 64 good deals on our picks.

I believe its a mix of Price (has it been this low before (or lower), have they reviewed it (and if so how did it fair) and bang for your buck....

Wirecutter is in essence a consumer reports type site... They review a large variety of products (speakers/printers/routers etc) and tell you which are worth your purchase (both for a frugal purchaser and if you want on the high end side)

Yes, I'm aware of Wirecutter, i'm asking what their parameters are to qualify something as a good deal and also how Prime Day compares to BF or Cyber Monday. Genuinely wondering as their parameters for a good deal might be very different than mine (and also wondering if I should be paying more attention on those other days).

To use an example, I bought a ten pack of lightning cables for $15. Now, I know that even though they are 'Apple approved' or whatever, they will likely not last all that long, the contacts will wear and I'll be lucky to get six months out of them. But I also know that I'll probably lose a couple, get one stolen at work, etc, so they - to me - are somewhat disposable at $1.50 a piece with free shipping. I consider that a good deal, Wirecutter I'm sure does not.

Conversely, it's almost like shopping at BJs that you need to know your stuff a bit. I saw an item on a Prime Day deal for the same price I bought it on Amazon two weeks ago; just like when I go to BJs the 30 pack of Charmin (or whatever) might not be as great a deal as you think ours getting if you don't pay attention at the supermarket when you buy a six roll pack.

I find it tough to think the average consumer would find less than 1% a good deal anymore than they would the average BF if they weighed the volume of everything offered by every store. It's just without any context, their graphic doesn't mean a whole lot to me and I'd wager the % is even lower for BF given the inventory numbers of the big ticket items in comparison. But, I would love to know if I'm wrong and should start paying attention more to the other big days.

I did the in person thing once about eight years ago, at a Michaels to get friggin Thomas the Train shit for my nephew. Fuck. That. Indeed.

But maybe I don't pay attention to start times, I haven't found the online BF deals to be any more well stocked than the in person ones and know from my BiL firsthand that stores like Walmart intentionally put up 'sale' signs because they know people will Coke trying to get the big ticket items and end up buying other crap at the usual price to justify the process. After the mass stampedes a few years ago, they started issuing tickets to those in line for certain items, but they count on most people not knowing that. All of these days are about unloading inventory and getting impulse buys, it's just a matter of taste in the end.

Did they factor in any pricing mistakes/glitches, like double dipping (stacking) thru Alexa and Lightning deals? There were a number of those yesterday. Or low profile, low $ deals that involved a coupon code (that most folks were unlikely to find unless someone pointed them out)?

I just assume they're going for the mass marketed DotD and Lightning deals.

Whatever you think of the deals, it accomplished basically everything Amazon could have hoped. Highlights from this CNBC article:
  • Sales this year surpassing its 2016 Black Friday and Cyber Monday results
  • Sales grew by more than 60 percent from the same 30-hour window in 2016
  • A "record number" of Prime members shopping (p more than 50 percent from last)
  • Amazon said more new members joined Prime on July 11 than on any single day in the company's history
  • The company said Prime members' most popular purchase this year was the Echo Dot
Seriously, that's every single goal they could have hoped to achieve. They increased Prime memberships and increased their dominance in the home assistant sector, both of which increase sales of other Amazon products and products on Amazon. You have to hand it to them, it's an incredibly successful garage sale.

There was a pretty solid effect outside of the advertised deals. I have an FBA store and we were 4-5x our usual daily sales the two days that it spanned despite us not changing anything to participate.

Is this the same one or a different model?

Different, Prime Day had the Duo80 (IIRC Duo is step up from Lux?):

And since we're on the subject of small kitchen appliances:

HomeDepot.com has the Kalorik 3.2L air fryer for $59.99, which IIRC was the same price on BF or CM 2016, and they supposedly flew out the door. From what I read back then, Philips is the Cadillac of air fryers, with Kalorik being #2 at a MUCH lower price:
