So the J-E-T-S officially quit last night. Not a good reflection on Bowles. A year ago some folks were concerned that the Jets finally had adults running the ship. A year later, their outlook is far more bleak.

Meanwhile in Buffalo, it was playoffs or bust. Of course with Rex that is going to be a bust. They are giving up even more points per game than last year.

So it's a simple question: will either coach get another year?

For the record, I think Pagula gets doped into bringing back Rexy for a 3rd year - and they go 8-8 or 9-7 again - and I also think Bowles gets another year, the Jets win somewhere between 4 and 6 games, and he gets canned.

I think Rexy gets one last season. I am not so sure about Bowles. It doesn't seem as though he has handled the QB situation very well, in that I think he should have ended the Fitzy experience after that 5 INT (or was it 6?) game a few weeks ago.

I say Bowles. The GM never hired Bowles as he was hired after Bowles was hired. Not sure he was a Bowles guy to begin with.

I think Rex stays. 8-8 is doable and thus isn't a disaster season. Mostly.

That, and when the offense faltered, he canned the O coordinator, changed their approach and things got "better". Despite it being a glorified option approach...pass the ball, nah.

As for Bowles, the show the Jets put on last night was one for the ages. Whiffed blocking assignments, drops, personal fouls and Fitz SHOULD have been picked off...all in the first 4-5 minutes. Just a team wide display of mailing it in.

To paraphrase Gruden last night - the Jets were still getting off the bus when the Colts were marching for TD #2. Bowles (and Revis are gone) and the Jets floundering continues.

After Bowles' post game press conference, I think he sees the writing on the wall. Those aren't the statements made by a guy confident and secure in his job. Either that, or he's trying to turn the narrative around and make it more about the players than the overall situation. I don't think he lasts.

Rex will con his way into another year.

Fisher is the ultimate mediocrity, but Rex inherited a good defense and they have had games this year where they have given up 37, 41, 31, and 38 points in losses. And people complain about NE defense.

I havent watched any others but the Bowles PC this week was the best he could do.

Maybe he does suck as a HC. But he cant trash the whole team. He took Responsibility. He tried to quantify it as a "Physical ass kicking" which is really his only play. He couldnt call out his players. If he does then the 4 remaining games are lost a midst the circling Media Vultures. There is a slight chance that he wins a game or 2 and is allowed back next year. This was the best option to keep his team trying and perhaps come back next year.

it will be interesting to see what Veterans sit next week (if any). Based on Bowles comments if they do then he did throw them under the bus, but in the best way a coach can.

Also have to give him credit at deflecting the Job talk. "When I took this job it was in jeopardy." True enough and beats the truth of "Yea my job is probably over. We are 3 and 9 and just got crushed on MNF".

Compare this to a Ryan Presser. Make you appreciate even more, not only BBs technique, but also that he has enough cache' to be able to use it.

I bet a good thread would be "ranking" HCs on their press conferences.

Bowles is done. Announcing that the QB lost his job at a post-game press conference is pretty weak, IMO. He's not going to get much respect from his players after that. BB left a guy home and managed not to talk about it.

I will admit that the "Yea Petty is starting the last 4, That was decided before this". "Did you tell the QBs about the decision for these last 4 games?" "No, I didnt tell anyone." (sooo....you "decided this" way back at some previous point and told no one...hmmm ok.) Was the weakest exchange. At the very least a "Its something the coaching staff has been discussing and based on where we are today we decided to implement it."

Of course he also should have said something to Fitzy on the way out of the Locker room so he could throw in the "I have told Ryan of our intention" LOL

But thats part of my point. A handful of NFL coaches all time could pull off what BB does. (one being Parcells). Bowles is the norm. and Probably one of the better (admittedly based on this one PC I have seen and it being after a tough spot). Again I say imagine Rex (or Fisher or Marvin lewis etc etc) after this game.

All that said, reality is it probably doesnt matter Bowles is pretty well sunk. But I dont blame the guy for Not simply throwing in the towel and trashing everyone on the way out. He seems to be handling a Dead man walking (or at least waiting on the final appeal from the governor)situation as well as can be expected.

Right - but continuity in itself doesn't really get you much. You end up with the post-2008 Jeff Fishers of the world. You don't hang onto a coach/GM unless things seem to be moving in the right direction (and it's important that everyone understands what the direction is).
