They are basically a .500 team. You are what you are. And Brad is conserving minutes and energy for the playoffs. It's hard for me to imagine more than 5 wins.

7-3 is a lot easier to pick when they're already 1-0. I considered 6-4 but with the head start 5-4 over the last nine seemed unduly pessimistic.

I'm going to predict 6-4 including B2B losses against the Heat which is just the perfect icing on the shit sundae of this mediocre season.

I was at 6-3 when we ran out of games and i realized this was late. Sooo....7-3.

I have them winning their last 6 of their last 7...finishing 39-33. Meh. 40-32 looks so much better.

Too many people giving us a W @Minnesota without realizing they are a good team now that Russell is back with Towns. Had they been healthy all year this was a WC playoff team.

Minny is foolishly winning games now — 4 in a row and 6 of their last eight. I would hope they’d be tanking in their second to last game of the season

I voted 6-4.

The two games with Miami will be played with playoff intensity. A split is the most likely outcome.

The Cleveland game is a schedule loss.

Figure they’ll win 3 of the other 5.

where I was last at
For anybody watching this team this year, the only honest answer to the question is, I don't have a clue.

Last night was a microcosm of what this team is or what they could be.

They could run the table or get swept, depends if CBS plays Jekyl or Hyde.

I went 6-4. Any better than that and I'd be comfortable finishing ahead of Atlanta and facing NY.

They are winning bc they went from the offense running through Malik Beasley and a 20-year old rookie to it running through two All-Star caliber players that is allowing those others to slot down into roles they are better suited for at this stage of their careers. It’s difficult to sit your two best players out this year after they sat out after February of last year.

What's a bit frustrating is that the Celtics seem destined to end up in "purgatory". No real chance of significant playoff success, no real chance at much of an upgrade from the draft.

A full year of Fournier and typical growth from Nesmith and their other young players should improve the team a bit. And health.

There is a ton of talent on this team.

Plus the draft is weird. Lots of good players are drafted after the lottery. They could get lucky.

I think we have all been guilty of some fools gold.

2017ECF Was total unadulterated luck. Still not sure how we even won a game against Cleveland. But we had a moniker. ECF Finalists.
2019ECF Was probably a better indication of where this team was (especially after '18). Engaged Kyrie (during the season at least) and Growing JB and JT. Had we a healthy Gordon then maybe we had a punchers chance. Unfortunately something happened with Kyrie after that season and he left along with Gordons injury taking alot of the picks and shovels with him.
2020 It Never should have been the Celtics Heat anyway. Milwaukee collapsed after a cake walk into the playoffs and Toronto and Philly were Very Good teams. Regardless this was the true Fools gold. We found a nugget that looked yellow. This made us think we were on the precipice. When in reality it should have been another Semifinals series loss. Especially without effective Gordon or Kemba.
That brought us to 21.
We all thought we had a gold mine and expected a big strike. Reality is while there is certainly the chance of precious metal we still havent moved enough earth to actually find it yet.

We are all pissed that we "are missing our window" when in reality....our window probably shouldnt have even opened yet. They Good Kyrie run and the Lucky Miami meeting made us think it was open before it truly was.

Is this season dissapointing? Yup. Cuz I like many of you thought it really was gold we had already found. In in reality we are still on the right river bend we just havent dug enough. AND we may still need some more (/different) crew.

Lets see where we are next year.

I dunno. I wasn't expecting much more than an ECF exit. I was hoping for growth from Brown, Tatum, TL and the other youngsters. I was hoping for a pretty good year from Nesmith and wasn't expecting much from PP.

Nesmith started slow and was overall a disappointment, but his current play makes that all irrelevant. PP has been better than expected. Brown and Tatum did improve. TL took a leap but still has huge health concerns.

RL did not, Grant did not.

In the overall scheme of things, this season sucked but it wasn't really "lost." It was never going to end with a trip to the Finals or a title. Honestly, getting a lottery pick this year is a better long term outcome than an exit in the ECF.

If the team ends up in the lottery and somehow ends up with a top 4 pick, it's the best result possible outside of a title. Even if they end up in the 12-14 area but this type they end up with Haliburton or Herro.

Yeah any chance this was a title team left with Hayward, and even that was a stretch.

Also if JT doesn't make all-NBA, hopefully that means there is more $ to spend later on.

I agree with your overall point that expectations for this year were probably inflated, but I don't really agree about your characterization of 2017 and 2020 being essentially all luck. In 2017 they were the #1 seed. Now yeah I think everyone knew that Cleveland was probably the better team - Cleveland was 17/5 to win the finals going into the postseason. But after that Boston and Toronto were both 30-1, with the Wizards trailing significantly at 50-1. So, basically, Boston was pretty clearly one of the best three teams in the East that year. Not that surprising, given that, that they made the ECF.

I wasn't able to find a definitive pre-postseason odds list for last year but I think the consensus again was that while Boston was not the favorite, they were in the Top 3, with the Bucks being the consensus #1 in the East and Toronto being #2 but with Boston not super far behind. Again, not that surprising that a top-3 team in the conference would make the ECF.

Put another way, the 2017 and 2020 teams (and the 2019 team) were very good teams, and the 2021 team is not a very good team at all. We can and are debating the reasons for that, but I don't think it's right to say, for example, that the 2020 team wasn't actually that much better than this year's team. It was clearly much better than this year's team, as both the eye test and a simple look at the standings would show.

@OurF'ingCity

Totally Fair.
I wasnt so much trying to convey that they were "Bad" as "not as good as we thought".
In sports I think is common (and often fair) to say "well if we won 7 games last year we should win 9 games this year". In this case "we made the ECF 3/4 so OBVIOUSLY the next step is the finals." And as we have seen.....it doesnt work that way. It doesnt lessen the disappointment any either.

Instead of expecting a ECF and Finals with 20/20 Monday morning QB vision we are in a 2 step forwards 1 Step Back cycle. (This being the Step Back).
