Ameobi with a brilliant strike to make it 2-0 Newcastle, away to Hull.

I have seen Coloccini handball in his own box, almost score an own goal, then just now he played a perfect through ball to a Hull player.

Rebecca and the Robbies are in Phoenix? I hope they have a Twitter poll: which result are you more interested in City-Chelsea or the Super Bowl?

Apparently a rugby tackle in the box is now legal. You're right, this is shocking. The chop on Coutinho at the stroke of 45 was a textbook booking (clear intent, ball was gone) and wasn't even whistled.

These things even out over the course of the season. So I hear. If true, we're headed for an embarrassment of riches.

I'm ready to put Henderson behind Mignolet on the free kick list. He's knocking the ball into the wall from ranges that give him ample opportunity to get the ball up and down cleanly.

Carroll gets away with murder when the ball's in the air. Started when he was at Liverpool but good to see it continue now.

Everton are 1-0 up but Palace will score because that is How Things Work.

Jordan Ibe looks like he's put on 15 pounds of muscle and a couple of inches in the last year. He's tailor-made for the frenzied attack Liverpool introduced last year. And Ojo looks like the next guy off the assembly line.

Too bad the Suarez deal gave the rest of the league a 15-match head start, because these guys are starting to look terrifying again.

Excellent defense by Zouma there after the giveaway.  He's 2-on-1 vs Milner and Aguero, yet manages to shut down all of the passing routes and allow his fellow defenders to get back.

And City equalize!

BEAUTIFUL cross brings Courtois out to defend, and leaves Aguero wide open.  His shot goes wide, but Silva was ready for the tap-in.

Tense second half.  I think 1-1 was a fair result, though City had the better half of the draw.  I was impressed with City's ability to play within themselves positionally yet still threaten Chelsea moving forward.

Pretty good stuff overall from Arsenal, especially playing without Sanchez.  Ozil was fantastic, almost all our best stuff went through him.  That second goal should have counted where he slipped Santi through.  Theo still looks rusty.

Villa probably won't score 5 goals in all of February.

I wonder what the US equivalent of being a Villa Fan is. Second biggest city in the UK. Huge catchment area, decent sized stadium, large fan base, proud history; any team that's won the European Cup has a proud history...and they play shit, shit, shit football in front of fans used to watching shit football who make less noise than just about any other team in the BPL. They must be so miserable. I think relegation would do them good, drop down a division, and then have something to fight for to, cheer for...I've watched a few Vila Matches this year cos I do like Craig Lambert and think he knows football, but man, it's sad watching them, play in front of those fans...I think Lambert would be well served getting a new job, cos Villa are not moving forwards as a club, they're like non particiapants in the league.

Watching the Liverpool match it was palpable the change in the stadium and on the pitch when Sturridge came on. And he hit the ground running and did what Liverpool have struggled so much with this season...finding little pockets of space in the final third particularly the box. And i was wondering, can they teach that...movement, work off the ball, reading a game, paticularly the game as it plays out in the final third. On of my favourite footie songs is called 'Give him a ball and a yard of grass' - it seems a fitting tribute to young Daniel. The Sultans of Ping FC, were not fans of the long ball game.

Give him a ball and a yard of grass
Give him a ball & a yard of grass
He'll give you a move with perfect pass
Give him a ball & a yard of space
He'll give you a move with godly grace
He 's a nice young man with a lovely smile

A man can't have no greater love
Than give 9O minutes to his friends

If God meant game to be played up there
He would've put goal posts in the air
If God meant game to be played up there
He would've put goal posts in the air
If God meant game to be played up high
He would've built pitches in the sky
If God meant game to be played up high
He would've built pitches in the sky (Die!)

That's the most lucid post I've seen from you, fletch, in quite some time.

As for Villa...May their supporters watch on in horror on the last day of the season as their club scores a cracker of a goal against themselves in stoppage time, losing the match and sending Villa on a massive tumble down the league ladder. I'd relish watching their fans with tears streaming down their faces as the rest of the football world laughs knowing those fuckers had it coming.
