Why am I still seeing Ross getting at bats?  He's 37 and hitting .180.  Would Vasquez really be worse?  The Salty decision has really not turned out well so far.
Since the entire point of the Salty decision was that they didn't want him interfering next year, or the two years after that, I don't really think you can get too pissed off about this year. I'm pretty sure they'd have brought him back for a single year if he'd been willing.

If the guys he would be "interfering" with suck or aren't ready next year or the year after, then can we be pissed off?

EDIT: also, I think the logic here is flawed generally. I'm reminded of the Mitch Hedberg bit, "If you are flammable and have legs, you are not blocking a fire exit." Similarly, if Salty projects to be worth his salary in 2015 and 2016, it doesn't matter if he's "interfering" or blocking someone - either he's better, in which case the prospect can backup or play at AAA, or he's worse, in which case he's trade bait. Maybe Saltalamacchia doesn't project to be worth 3 years / $21 MM, but if he does, it doesn't make a lot of sense to hold off because you think someone who hasn't played above AA might be good later in the contract.

He wasn't. He was decidedly mediocre at his job, often worse.

Wouldn't Ross still be around and getting the same at bats were Salty to have been re-signed?  If Salty is re-signed, it's AJP that is removed from the equation, not Ross.

Unless you think Salty catches 162 games if he had been re-signed.

I highly value game-calling/the handling of pitchers.  The FG article is solid although it compares Ross to AJP which may skew things a bit.  Was the difference as great last year with JS?  Of course Lester was not pitching last night.  Whenever this team runs the white flag up the pole, I really don't want to see either of these guys getting significant at bats.  Hell, Salty supposedly improved a lot as a catcher once he got to Boston and started playing every day.  Let's get our next catcher on that track ASAP and stop screwing around with guys who will not be part the Sox next playoff team.

The Sox have sent Milton's own Rich Hill to the Angels for cash considerations. He had an opt-out from his contract yesterday but declined it, perhaps knowing the Sox would move him someplace where he'd be added to the active roster. And that's exactly what's happened, as the Angels have put him on the 25-man.

The move also cleared space for De La Rosa to rejoin the PawSox and make his start tonight.
