I joined a league--coed, and was placed on a team that needed players. First game is tomorrow. Interested to see how this recreational level league corresponds to the recreational level in the recent tournament.

My wife made a pretty major D1 basketball team as a freshman walk on (although she decided it wasn't worth the time commitment). When we were in our late 20s/early 30s she played in a co-ed basketball league that gave girls 2/3 points for each shot while the boys got 1/2. She had some dudes who could ball on her team but opponents were literally playing a box+1 on her. Sometimes the girl rules are silly.

I played coed intramural hoops when I was in college. Men weren't allowed in the key. At any time. If you were posted up on the left of the basket and wanted to shift to the right, you had to run all the way around the key. Dumbest set of rules I've ever played under.

The rules on their website only say that for a coed team that a female must take 1 of first 3 shots if there's any kind of PK shootout.

It says nothing about at least one female on field, etc. and I have to imagine they have that rules in place at the very least. I've heard people talk about others but I guess I'll find out tonight.

Every league I played in in the Boston area was coed and the rules usually required 2 women on the field at all times when we played 5v5. I played one season where we didn't have enough women so we played a person down for most of the season...which wasn't as big a deal in indoor since we actually created more space for ourselves on offense and played space on D.

So, that was fun. Only real rule was 2 women on field and it's 7v7. We were missing 2 of our women (and one is apparently really good) so we had a fill in--they had to play the whole game.

The level of competition was better for where I am. We lost 10-5, I scored one, but we just left our keeper hung out to dry too much. If we can get a defender to stay home and another willing to get back if they wander forward, we should be okay. Their keeper made some great saves in second half, keeping them on top.

Yowsah, 10 conceded? Being on a "lone rangers" team is tough. Hopefully you have an agreeable group that will communicate well and develop chemistry quickly.

Speaking of bad refs, a couple weeks ago a guy from another team and the ref had to be pulled apart. The ref ended the game at the buzzer despite the other team lining up for a free kick within shooting distance only down 1. One of their guys started to flip out on the ref, and the ref started talking shit right back. They had to be separated while our side quietly slunk off the field.

Yeah, but somehow 5 of them came in like a weird 4 minute span when no one wanted to play defense then they popped in one at very end. So for like 35 minutes it was 4 conceded. :) We had pulled to 4-3 and then BAM.

Teammates were fine, some of them had played together but we were missing 2 guys and an apparently really good female player.

I opened the scoring with what LOOKED like a really sweet goal, but in actuality I was trying to play it off the glass and missed and slid it short side.

As to reffing, we were awarded PK in last few seconds and ref just stopped the clock. Seems the right thing to do.

10 goals in indoor isn't that surprising. When you have games against teams of the same caliber it will either be a shootout or a stingy affair but I've routinely seen 12-14 goals in a game.

I've only seen the clock stopped for a bad injury. PKs are always taken, even if time expires.
Thinking back, there was an injury on the play (not bad, but keeper took out on of our female players), so that's probably what he did.

Game before ours was 3-0. No other team scored more than the 6 (I thought it was 5) we scored. Glancing through some other leagues, most games finished with winner scoring 5-7, with occasional 10-12 on the board.

If you're playing with boards, 10 is more common. Goddamn ball just bounces around the box.

Bumping this.

I've continued to play. First coed season we lost every game, most by a score around 7-3. That was a bunch of players I didn't know, it was what they call Division 3, and there were some sandbagging teams.

Then I put together a team for Men's Over 30 Division 2. More sandbaggers, and we weren't competitive at all. Most games in the neighborhood of 6-0, 7-1, with a few worse, with us just chasing all night.

This past season, which just ended last night, we moved to True Recreation Coed, but more for newer teams, like us, just trying to get back into it. You got a free pitcher of beer every week. We recruited 4 good female players and went 3-4-1. Our win last night was via forfeit--other team didn't have enough players and instead of playing shorthanded, they just forfeited and facility just let us play for the 40 minutes. Until we gave them 2 of our players, we were up 5-0 in first 10 minutes.

I moved to keeper this year--lots of fun. Actually had a shutout in one game. Month off, then next season starts up.
