Major Championship week.

Odds:

Tiger 9/1
DJ 10/1
Koepka 10/1
Rory 12/1
Fowler 16/1
JT 18/1
Rahm 18/1
Rose 20/1
Day, Frankie, Fleetwood, Xander 25/1
DeChambeau, Spieth, Finau 30/1
Mickelson 60/1

Spieth is a train wreck (down to 39th in the world, hasn’t top 10’d since last year’s British, probably going to miss the playoffs this year) but he’ll be a story line since he is going for the slam. Then there is some guy named Tiger who may be a story line this week. Tiger hasn’t played since the Masters but he’s been at Bethpage since last week turning up. The chase for 18 is on. Oh and he’s won a major championship at this golf course before.

Tickets on StubHub are going pretty cheap. I'm looking to go on Sunday and Wanamaker Club tickets are available for cheaper than face value general admission. General admission tickets for Sunday are going as low as $60.

I'm going on Saturday.....really excited to attend another Bethpage event.

However, I "do" understand the low prices for this event.

The traffic in-and-out of Long Island events is a special kind of misery.

The weather doesn't look great and getting in and out of that area is a near impossibility. Plus, schools are still in session and people have stuff going on on the weekends. It makes sense the ticket prices are soft.

It's going to be low 60s, at best, and raining Thursday and Friday. That's very poor golf watching weather.

Weather looks actually OK for Thurs/Fri. 30% chance of showers on both days with highs in the mid 60's. Weekend looks great with mostly sunny and near 70.

Is it accessible via LIRR? Looking at the map it actually looks really accessible via public transit. If I was in NY I would be all over that.

Really really cool feature on the Golf Channel about Lido Golf Club on Long Island that was said to be one of the greatest golf courses in the world before it got demolished after the Great Depression. I never knew any of that, pretty interesting.

I have played that course 50 times. I will have to check out that feature ASAP.

Tiger finds the right rough, Molinari goes way left and hits a provisional, Bruce hits one right down the middle.

We're off.

Laying up on 10 almost guarantees a bogey and usually a double. Great start for Rickie and Tiger. Both laid up after their tee shots.

Whoever is doing the PBP for the Woods, Molianri, Koepka featured group is highly annoying.
I just came here to say that - they're off-putting enough that I'm now DVRing the broadcast, doing something else for 20 minutes and then coming back to watch on fast-forward. But even the tiny snippets I'm hearing from the commentators between fast-forwards are annoying.

I think it is Michael Breed from the Golf Channel.

Wish they would have the 2 featured groups on the same stream. Less down time answers announcer yapping.

I mean, there are THREE total golfers to follow and you miss two of their tee shots on 18 because of a "commercial break" where no commercials are showing? What the fuck?

These announcers are so bad. Tiger's back isn't hurt because of how many golf swings he's taken.

There have been hundreds (thousands) of PGA golfers who have taken as many swings as Tiger without resulting in the back issue he has.

I've said the same thing about this guy in previous majors. He's awful to listen to.

Tiger back to even after missing a short putt for par on #5. Koepka makes birdie, and then drops a long par putt on #6 to stay at -6. He's a fucking robot.

I've said the same thing about this guy in previous majors. He's awful to listen to.
And he had one of the worst takes ever while Tiger was on the 5th green - he said that the New York crowds will really back you up and give you a boost, whereas at the British Open you don't get meaningful roars because it's windy and the noise doesn't carry. Because of course it's always windy in Britain, and it's all stiff-upper-lip-guv'nor and all that...and there's never been an exciting Open Championship, really.

(If anyone has any contacts in PGA Tour television production, please send me their details...)

Is the front nine the easier nine or are conditions just getting better for scoring later in the afternoon? Only mildly following at work without sound.

The hats Nike put on Brooks and Day are brutal.

Also, Rory stole Tiger’s Sunday clothes for today’s round.

I can’t remember the last time I felt a major was over before the afternoon tee times on day 1.

This course is perfect for Koepka and he played great. Game over.
