@pgammo: So Gabriel Gomez lives in my family's house, where my grandmother, a Tower, was born and raised, where I played as a child.

@pgammo: @pgammo unfortunately the Globe website is designed and run by an otter

Second tweet is a response to the first.

@pgammo: Ortiz basically said what my greatgreatgreatgreat grandfather said at Ticonderoga

So now I've learned that Peter Gammons is a direct descendant of Ethan Allen. And that Allen told the British he was taking Fort Ticonderoga "In the name of the Great Jehova and the Continental Congress."

If Gammons was a *direct* descendant of Ethan Allen, wouldn't his last name be Allen?

It long has been customary for a woman to take the last name of her husband upon marriage.

That's unfortunate.  I remember reading that when he was angry with people, Lincoln used to write letters to them and then put them away never to send them.  It was a good way to get out the bile and calm down before addressing an issue he might have with someone.  Tweeters would do well to adopt a similar practice, because I'm sure Peter would take that one back if he could.

And he's now apologizing.  Nice to see someone apologize without needing to get approval from handlers or saying "if I offended anyone"

Lincoln didn't have Twitter.

Also, this is the best Deadspin comment:

A Pimp Named DaveRUGreg Howard111L
His ass also immediately took to Twitter to apologize:

This is sad.  I have very fond memories of Gammons' Baseball columns in the Sunday Globe and how I couldn't wait to read them.  He's lost his fastball over the past few years and now is almost irrelevent.   Will always be a HOFer and rightly so.

I like Peter Gammons. A lot. I really do. Though he desperately needs an editor, I check his site every day and still read his pieces. But this one, forget the title, is a little over-the-top, especially with this line:

Clayton Kershaw is so rare a man, at 26, that one can talk comps with the names Sandy Koufax, Fred Hutchinson and Nelson Mandela. Really.

Yes. Clayton Kershaw is EXACTLY like Nelson Mandela. Who can forget the years that Kershaw was unfairly jailed because of the conviction of his beliefs. I get that it's Gammons' schtick to write that just because some dude can throw 95-100 mph, he's one of the truly greatest people who ever lived, but come on? Kershaw as Mandela? That's a fridge too far, Gammy.

Peter once wrote that Theo was destined for the United States Senate and maybe higher political office.

This stuff does not translate to other spheres, and wanting to talk about "larger" things, gammo has not accommodated himself to that reality.

Comparing Kershaw to Nelson Mandela is outrageously offensive and stupid.

Everyone knows that the correct comparison is to the Dalai Lama.
