Maybe he quit, but entercom has a rich history of fake radio stunts. Remember the Mike Adams lock in?

I also doubt it in this case. And if its true, I like Pete a lot more for shooting his way out.

I just never put it past this company to pull dumb stunts.

I happened to hear it, and it was phenomenal radio.  To me, it sounded 100% legit.  His rage was real.  I respect the hell out of him for going out with guns a-blazing, despite the fact that it's not going to help his future hireability one iota.

I love Pete.
Best of luck on your future endeavors, and for going out like a champ.

Have to think the Entercom CEO visiting Friday played a part in this.

If anybody can find the audio of it (no chance WEEI puts it up) I will love you forever.

Hats off to him, never thought we'd get to hear somebody actually call them out like that.

I second that ... PLEASE, there must be an mp3 file of it dangling around there somewhere.

I don't think, however, it's bad for EEI that Pete Sheppard will no longer be with the station.  The way he quit and called them out doesn't look good, but he's synonymous with a lot of the stuff that turned people away from them.  (I'll post a little more about this when I have more time).

Jesus, this sounds like a really dumb move for Pete. If you want to stay in the industry, why would you do this? Just stupid.

Good for him for calling them out or whatever, but he was awful. I honestly couldn't stand listening to him. I don't know how he held the job that long. EEI may be going downhill but losing Pete isn't going to hurt.

Hanging around with Ordway at Steve & Fred's probably makes him more money than EEI.

Meh, seems like a petulant dick,
Honestly Riish is the only one who left so far I thought was even mildly competent at his job (other then Ordway, but he had just been there too long).
I've enjoyed Salk and Holley far more than the Big Show, Now if only they can dump Dennis and Callahan.

Especially Dennis. When Dennis was out on vacation, Callahan immediately became better (not great but much better).

That's a shame, I always liked Pete; while he could be a buffoon at times I felt he was a lot more down to Earth and more of a fan than the other hosts on that station. Kudos to him for going out guns blazing.

He did what many of us have wanted to do at one time or another in our professional lives. However, if he wanted to stay in the media/radio business, he pulled off a very risky stunt. Maybe he will team up with Ordway who is looking into podcasts and internet radio. I doubt you will hear Pete on traditional, commercial radio. At least I seriously doubt it will happen in Boston.

When he was fired the first time from WEEI, he struggled to find any kind of work in the business, ending up doing internet radio for the Patriots.  Can't imagine he'll find the going any easier the second time around after quitting on air like he did.  I have to think he's either got something lined up (and since EEI is a part-time gig for him anyway, that wouldn't be surprising) or he's just a colossal moron.  Sure, people snap and quit in a huff without thinking, but he tweeted a heads-up that something "big" was coming, so it wasn't a spur of the moment emotional decision he can shrug off.

Risk implies uncertainty; there is none.  Pete's done in commercial radio.  This type of stunt is the worst nightmare of a business that likes to chide everybody as unduly sensitive but is notoriously thin skinned itself.  This won't be forgotten, and Pete is a smart enough guy to know it.

Blames the people above Jason Wolfe (Jeff Brown, etc) and says they won't take his calls. He's going out on his own terms.

The folks above my boss won't take my calls, either.  That's why I have a boss, to figure out what goes on with my job and filter things so her boss can handle bigger issues they are needed for.

In a way good for him but I think he saw the writing on the wall and knew his number was about to be called.  I disagree with whoever said that EEI is going down, IMO they finally realized that they are down and havn't been relevant since the TSH came on the air and have since been making changes to fix that and in radio it doesn't take much to get people back if you can find the right fit.

Salk and Holley have been my "go to" show at 5 and then I go to F&M to see what they are talking about.

Minihane, while starting to show cracks now that I have been listening more, will be a good 3rd man if/when they dump Dennis.  I don't think Callahan and Minihane would be very compelling but I really enjoyed Callahan, Arnold and Minihane when Dennis was out.

As I said, I think Pete saw the writing on the wall and didn't like seeing all of his buddies from yesteryear getting the axe and couldn't handle it.

This.  Pete Shepard is delusional if he thinks Entercom was going to have him sit down with the boss of his boss to discuss on air content.   It's comical to even think that Shepard expected this to happen.  IMO he was never any good, and he's a rank amateur for pulling a stunt like this.  Kudos to him if he doesn't care, but if he thinks he's going to be working at another reputable media stop anytime soon, then he's even more delusional than I think.

How can we be sure this wasn't some pathetic "You can't fire me, I quit!" attempt at retaining some dignity?

Maybe, but it wouldn't make sense why they'd then let him on the air to vent his spleen at the company.

He's certainly not the only person take issue with Entercom.

I believe it was Friday, Howie Carr's producer asked if he'd have lunch with Wolfe...Carr responded, "No way...I wouldn't tell him if his coat was on fire!"
If Howie Carr hates him then he must be good people. I Howie Carr is without a single redeeming quality.

In retrospect, Pete Sheppard couldn't have picked a worse time to quit.

I think had Monday's tragedy never happened, this would have been a bigger story (I believe it was on Page 3 of Monday's Herald). Now it's a memory.

Yet D&C claim to be the Most Listened to in New England. Plus they claim "it's not even close". I can't imagine adding in NESN and the rest of NE would make up the large number of listeners they'd need.

I would bet the difference between first and last in the market is, at most, a few hundred thousand listeners (and all numbers of listeners are estimates based on each diary holder representing X number of listeners, so even that is inexact).  Difference between first and sixth probably less than that.  With even middle of the pack shares of markets like Providence, Hartford, and Portland plus television viewers, it probably makes up the difference and then some.

I don't about "not even close" (Dennis is a blowhard who's prone to hyperbole, especially when it comes to pumping himself up), but it is certainly plausible to claim most listened to in New England.

Wow. What an epic collapse.

Overall, The Sports Hub finished first in each of the three months of the winter ratings period. WEEI was third in January, sixth in February, and tied for ninth in March. The Sports Hub was also first in the fall ratings with an 8.5.

I find it hard to believe that the WEEI ratings actually went down in March. There are three reasons for my skepticism.  The addition of Kirk M to has added an interesting dynamic to the morning show. As Homebrew (I think?) mentioned, I fine myself turning to D&C for the unintentional comedy and to hope that John Dennis actually implodes on air. D&C have also done more Sox talk than T&R  which I am interested in.  Secondly, since the debut of  Salk and Holley, I've found myself listening to their show over Felger and Mazz. I think I'm not the only SOSHer  who has done that.  In addition, EEI has the Red Sox who have gotten off to a pretty good start. So why would EEI's ratings dip dramatically in March? If anything, I think their ratings should have risen? Is there any way to see a breakdown of the ratings since the Salk/Holley pairing began?
Anyway, I am not defending EEI. Just trying to figure out the ratings.

I think the next book's numbers are the big ones. I think Salk came on too late to be able to really tell. Too much noise with eei to see if Salk and Holley could make a dent.

I'm also curious on the D&C numbers. Last week Rich seemed intent on proving the commercials wrong. But because of what happened they understandably haven't gotten much into anything else this week.

And now we know it was a stunt, though not one cleared with anyone at Entercom...

How long will NBC Sports Radio be able to stay on the air?

I'm not sure what their demographic is ... people driving old Buicks that only have access to AM radio?

Today and the day Valentine signed with them are the only two days I've heard of NBC Sports Radio.
