You want an interesting comparison? Look at Jim Rice and Carlos Delgado side by side. I'm in the camp that Rice was a marginal candidate and probably shouldn't have gotten in, so that means Delgado shouldn't have, either, but the two are closer than I would have expected.
Delgado was a great player, if the rule of 10 didn't exist he would probably be in the 25% range and very well could have gotten in eventually.

Hall of Fame ballots with all 10 spots used: 51%, up from 50% last year and 22% in 2013. Average ballot had 8.4 votes.

HOF needs to be fixed ASAP

Thank you for posting that. I figured the number would be around 30%, but really the change should have been made in 2013 after nobody got in. For what it's worth, my ballot for next year would be:

Griffey
Hoffman
Piazza
Raines
Schilling
Clemens
Bonds
Bagwell
Mussina
Kent

If you buy the notion that Hoffman gets in on the first ballot--and I'm a bit less than positive about that--are we looking at Hoffman, Griffey, and Piazza?

Anyone know what the biggest jump in votes has been? Bagwell would have to jump more than 20 points and Raines almost thirty.
Not sure what the biggest jump would be, but Schilling had a 10% jump this year (after a drop last year). Those numbers would be irrelevant though if they eliminate the 10 man ballot rule. Someone else said it was increased to 12 for next year, but I hadn't heard that. It's a step in the right direction, but still an arbitrary number.

increasing to 12 was recommended, but hasn't been decided on yet

Rosenthal had an interesting idea the other day--consider a vote cast for a guy as a constant going forward. So, someone votes for Schilling this year, next year his vote for Schilling is "in the bank," and he gets the 10 (or 12) to fill out with other players.

Still don't totally understand why it can't just be a wide-open ballot, but that was one idea.

I would support this.

I like that idea and would be happy to see it come to pass, but as JtB said, why can't it just be a wide-open ballot? Why does it need to be that complicated?

I'm actually pretty happy today (notwithstanding the completely blank ballot and only 51% casting 10 votes). I was expecting the class to be only RJ, Pedro, and Smoltz, so Biggio getting in is a bonus. I know he was only 2 votes shy last year but with the overcrowding on the ballot and the BBWAA I wasn't very confident. On top of that, guys like Piazza, Raines, Bagwell, and Schilling seem to be gaining momentum. Better results than I expected, but still not good enough.

Also: PEDRO!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the team store can start selling Pedro jerseys again with his HOF election

See you this July everyone.

I got so much enjoyment out of Pedro's time in Boston, I simply have to be there to see it in person.

That's correct. I asked last year and they thought he would be eligible after the Red Sox HOF election, but I guess that's not as definitive as the real Hall of Fame. Player t-shirts and Jerseys will be available for purchase before the induction ceremony. I wouldn't be surprised to see them available within the month.

It's about time; my Pedro player t-shirt was getting a bit worn out due to age.

Excellent. It's about time I grabbed a Pedro jersey.

My high school Spanish comprehended about 20% of that.

He said something amusing along the lines that Juan Marichal had 33 years freezing in the Hall, by himself, and he felt honored in keeping him warm as the 2nd Dominican inducted. It just sounds more charming in Spanish.

CSNNE just tweeted a link to a piece from Felger saying he's skeptical about Pedro doing it clean. God I hate this town sometimes.

Alex Speier with a mind boggling scenario - Pedro pitching in this run-scoring environment.

Pedro promptly mentions Bumgarner and Kershaw.

The child-like wonderment in his eyes as he talked about what they could do if they don't make any changes to the mound, or in talking about Koufax was awesome. The man loves this game, his craft most of all, and it shows in every syllable he dedicates to talking about the game.
