I'd say he was my favorite, but he was above my judgement. All I know is that I'm going to be talking about him until the day I die, and will always feel lucky to have seen him as close as I did.

I gotta say, with all they can do with cakes these days, that is not worthy of #45

The drive up from I-88 via 28 to country inn (well ,Milford at the very least) wasn't even worthy of Ramon. Very cringe inducing. Chestnut st looks better though

Tonight looked about 55% red sox fans, 25% Astros, 5% each mets, Yankees and Phillies, and 5% rest

OK, so how are we watching this tomorrow. Is it on mlb.tv?

I do not have mlb.tv on cable, but I have it on the internet. But they are notoriously late in posting what they will show on the interwebs, so I expect I'm not the only one with this question, so:

How are are we watching Pedro's speech?

When you say you don't have mlb.tv, do you mean you don't have MLB network, because it's on mlb network.

I would imagine it's going to be on mlb.tv too.

I'm in England so will miss all the festivities today. Hope they get his and Smoltz speeches up quick. Looking forward to both.

Yeah, but they're lucky to have it. It was the last one left at the Pru Star Market.

Yes--I do not have the network.

I had assumed streaming too, but right now if looks like they are asking for my cable provider to verify I have a subscription to the channel to stream. Which I don't...

I said the same thing. Tons of Biggie fans here. I believe he's the only Astro inducted into the HoF wearing the jersey, so it's big for Houston fans.

NESN this morning said they're showing wall to wall Pedro pitched game videos from noon Eastern until many hours later, maybe 6 hours total. Can always DVR those in case the Tigers game is a dud, or for another time. Definitely watching the induction live on mlb network. Past HOF inductions have been a lot of fun. This one should be great.

On NESN, they'll show Pedro games just when he's pitching, BTW.

Seems like you do not need to be subscribed to MLBN (its a free stream)

Some really great stuff from Pedey in the Cafardo article today. Very eloquent response when asked about Cowherd's comments -- and reminiscent of the "who is Karim Garcia?" slight.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/07/25/pedro-martinez-rises-above-colin-cowherd-comments/3OLXRpvl2AOHJHDDk1xdII/story.html

“That person [Cowherd], I don’t even know him, I’ve never heard of him, I don’t want to know him. I want to know people who mean something to us. The people who understand how we can get better. Yes, we are a Third World country. Yes, we don’t have the resources to be more educated. But you know what? Every once in a while you’re going to get someone like me, who’s not afraid to face you guys, tell you how educated or uneducated I am, how proud I am of becoming who I am, and we’re not gonna stop and go back to the Third World country that we were 30 years ago.

“I just feel blessed to be counted as one that actually made it this far and to represent what I represent,” he said. “If you guys ask me how I want to be remembered, don’t remember me by the plate, or by the numbers I posted. Don’t remember me as being part of an elite class. I want to be a sign of hope for society. It doesn’t matter where — the United States, Africa, Latin America, everywhere."

They started the Pedro-thon with the Gerald Williams/1-hitter game from 2000.  It's been 15 years and I still can't watch that without getting all pissed off at the Rays.  I'd forgotten that not only did their starter hit Daubach and Nomar in the 3rd inning before getting tossed, but in the 7th, Cory Lidle got tossed for throwing behind Daubach, then the reliever who replaced him nailed Daubach with his first pitch.  And through it all, Pedro was cruising with a no-no.

The Devil Rays really were just as much a sniveling whiny bunch of douchebags as the Maddon-douche-ified Rays of more recent vintage.  Seems like half the roster and their coaching staff ended up ejected by the end of the game.

I'm watching the lead up to the ceremony, and I'm getting goose bumps and a touch weepy. Pedro. Man, were we a lucky people, those of us who stopped everything almost every time he pitched for the Sox. And it feels even better now because he is a golden, beautiful human being.

5-ish years ago, when Pedro Martinez retired, I promised myself I would be here today.

I had gotten married the year before.
I had just finished my Master's a couple of months before.

Since then...
Cancer.
A stroke.

And instead I'm sitting here watching this on television instead.
Goodness, what a mess these past 5 years have been.

I'll never see another player like Pedro Martinez.
I miss watching him play so much.
It all seems like yesterday.

Thank you, Pedro.
Congratulations.

Never seen one of these before. Do they invite all living HoF to the induction?

Eddie Murray frightened me when I was growing up watch the Sox. I hated seeing him to come to bat.

You know, if the Sox had some must win game right now, I'd rather have 68 year old Nolan Ryan pitch than anyone we currently have.

Ha, not-so-subtle shot at Bonds there.

It's interesting to see how they frame these guys' accomplishments.  Call Aaron the de facto home run king yet don't mention that Bob Gibson's 1.12 ERA was off a 15-inch mound.

Well, it's not like Gibson was cheating though, he was playing by the rules of the day. Bonds was cheating.

If the Red Sox were playing the Orioles and it was a tie game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th at Memorial Stadium, I'd have been perfectly fine with intentionally walking Eddie Murray and being content with a one-run loss.

Frank Thomas still looks a like fucking hoss.
I think Frank and Eddie Murray could still hit 30 home runs.

Also, if you didn't tear up a little when he helped Whitey to his seat, I worry for your humanity.
