Honestly, I love it. I decided as soon as I became aware of Manchester United that I didn't like them, which was pretty much the same time I became aware of Ronaldo and decided I didn't like him either. Hateable athlete goes home to his hateable team. Fits.
This … a thousand times this. My ManU dislike has kind of waned in recent years. The return of my Most Hated Player restores the natural order of things.

This is where I am. I’ve enjoyed watching them so far this season and was almost starting to not hate them completely and fully. I love Pogba and Bruno is so thrilling to watch. I was also interested to see what Sancho would do since I was a huge fan of his at Dortmund.

So thank you ManU for getting Ronaldo and allowing me to detest you and root against you

At the very least, we will see if they can finally play together. It hasn’t been great for the Selecao, but they’re chemistry cannot be solved in that dynamic. It’s why Danny, similar player to Bruno who played for Zenit, could never figure it out.

Speaking of which, if Ronaldo and Bruno really hated each other, Fernandes wouldn’t have been an automatic selection for Fernando Santos over the last 3 years. Santos has a great deal of influence over Ronaldo, but not to the point he can make him play with someone he has a negative relationship with.

Bruno was not playing 90 minutes every game with Ronaldo. He was a second half sub in two out of their 4 matches. They haven’t linked up well; but that’s intentionally factual and not truthful.

Good move for United. But does it take them past City in the betting odds? I'm doubtful but curious

City mostly outlasted everyone last year relying on depth. In my view its a completely open title race and City probably shouldn’t be favorites without having addressed striker and now a complete lack of depth at Lb

Meh, the overall point is solid. Bruno played 206 minutes with Ronaldo and only 7 of his 105 completed passes were to him. Maybe it is nothing personal, but they have not worked well together.

Dan James to Leeds for 28 million.

Good bit of business for both clubs. United make a profit on James and get a very good price while Leeds are getting a player who should fit their system.

This is great. James is one of the fastest dudes in the EPL. He never was ManU regular starter quality, but he could be a scary option streaming down the flanks for Bielsa.

I've seen different fees thrown out there; I'll be happy if this gets done. I think he's good, maybe not great, but you don't really need him over there, and Leeds are looking a little listless of late. This way you'll finally be able to afford the extension on the toilet.

Various Toffee nuggets: pardon the lack of links, this is a summary from Everton Twitter

No buyers for Jamezzz. Rafa has already said that he doesn't want him, he doesn't fit with Everton's style - which, after an excellent start playing a simple, direct, disciplined, but surprisingly adventurous style, I actually credit. Deal with James to Porto and Colombian attacker Luis Diaz coming back to Everton is now dead. AC Milan kicked the tires but no interest.
Moise Kean to Juve, structured as two year loan with requirement to buy
Niels Nkonkou loaned out to Liege
Ashley Maitland Niles pushing hard for move to Everton but nothing yet
Salomon Rondon rumored

Deadline rumors are that Saul may end up in Chelsea, with Sarabia from PSG replacing him.

In other news, Barcelona have asked Atleti for the loan of Joao Felix. Coincidentally, so have I.

A few more notable transfers already completed, apologies if some have already been covered upthread:

  • Marc Cucurella moving from Getafe to Brighton for €18M. Barca to get 10% of fee.
  • Vlasic moving to WHU for €29M. Aggressive play from WHU and I like it. The Hammers could be feisty again this season.
  • Zouma to WHU for €35M (!). Seems a bit high, but definitely does improve their CB situation.
  • Kang in Lee moving from Valencia to Mallorca on a free. Any move away from the flaming tire dumpster fire that is Valencia has to be good for those players.
  • Odriozola leaving Madrid for Firenze on a loan transfer (no fee).
  • Joaquin Correa moving to Inter from Lazio on a €5M loan deal.
  • Dumfries moving from PSV to Inter for €12.5M.
  • Montiel going from River Plate to Sevilla for €11M.
  • Messi to PSG on a free.

All big 5 league windows close at 6pm ET, except for Bundesliga, which closes at noon ET. Presumably because of German efficiency and Bayern has already picked the other German clubs clean.

They nabbed Sabitzer from Leipzig the other day. Savvy move that adds flexible depth, knows the manager already, and hurts a rival.

In case anyone is worried about Madrid and their lack of incoming, the Guardian is reporting that they’ve snapped up Camavinga. I hope he gets on the pitch and is allowed to develop his incredible talent.

Out of seemingly nowhere, Sarabia is headed to Sporting of Portugal, supposedly so that he can get enough playing time to remain on Luis Enrique's list for the World Cup.

Looks like Everton got Moise Kean from Juventus. The kid ended the season very well for club and country. He could be the real deal.

It looks like the transfer agreement contains either a buyback or right of first refusal for Juventus. I hate to see the kid go but he wasn't going to see much time this year and his contract is expiring.

Italy has a tax incentives for its citizens who return after two years earning money abroad. This whole transfer saga was essentially an end run around the Italian tax code. 70% of Kean’s earnings will not be subject to income tax for the next five years.

Very highly rated young LB/LWB Nuno Mendes apparently going from Sporting to PSG as well. Mendes and Hakimi is an incredible pair of young fullbacks/wingbacks to add in a single transfer window. Especially one in which they signed a few others players of note too.

That essentially completes the PSG team, as LB/LWB was arguably their only weak position.

Mendes / Hakimi is a pair of transfers that make me kinda think they're actually listening to Pochettino and not just 100% chasing shiny things. That's a very Poch fullback pairing compared to what they were rolling with previously.

Agreed, those definitely seem more like Pochettino buys than Leonardo purchases.

3-4-3 with Mendes/Hakimi providing width on each side, Neymar/Mbappe/Messi fluidly combining near the box, and Wijnaldum and Verratti providing support behind them is pretty sick.

We'll see if Poch can make the pieces fit together well but on pure talent I think this is the best club first XI since the MSN Barcelona squad of 2014-15.

Paris Saint-Germain have rejected a bid in excess of €220m from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe. A world record transfer fee. They could/will lose Mbappe as a free agent next year. A first-team squad of over 30 players. Money is not and never will be remotely relevant to them.

BREAKING: Real Madrid made a €220 million offer for Kylian Mbappe today, but PSG are still not responding.

same club where the President said they had to form the ESL or go broke, huh?

Guess they found a few euros under the couch cushions somewhere.

Leonardo made an offhand comment yesterday that the bid was designed to be turned down. That might be some gamesmanship, but also might reflect proposing some wild kind of payment and bonus clause structure that at its fullest value his €220m, but PSG is unlikely to ever see all that cash.

PSG is only focused on winning the Champions League and they are all-in this year by bringing in Messi. They were not going to sell Mbappe without a replacement being lined up. Yes, they might lose him next year for nothing, but perhaps he loves playing with Messi, they win the UCL, and they sign him to some enormous extension?

IDK, I'm happy a team is keeping its best players and going to try and win it all this year. Do we really think him going to Real would be any better for the sanctity of the game or whatever other pearl clutching goes on when it comes to the petro clubs?

City have undoubtedly spent a ton of money and these days it’s exceptionally easy to be a City fan but probably the biggest annoyance is being grouped with PSG and constantly being accused of inflating the market while the actual team is consistently outbid on any big player and never getting fees like other clubs do for players who need to move on. It’s like all of the downside of being called out for spending while not having the fun of actually flexing the financial muscle

L'Equipe is reporting that Griezmann is coming back to Atletico. The most intense Atletico fans won't like the move, but Simeone clearly wants him back.

Aside from, you know, all the league titles and domestic cups, I’m sure you’re right. Those can’t be any fun.
Hey look I said it’s awesome just annoying to no longer ever really go big for a player to go over the top. If City is a “sportswashing” exercise they’re awfully bad at it (and I hate that term and the underlying intent of it being brought up so I’d prefer to not engage here on that point)

Fabrizio says its a loan with an option to buy. If Atleti has the salary space to absorb his wages for a year, it seems like a good move. La Liga titles don't come easy and they've got a great opportunity to grab another.
