The first Celtics championship picture (at 1:24) has Ray Allen front and center holding the trophy.

edit- and he's to the right of Pierce in the first picture, he's with Pierce in #2, right in the middle of #3, not in #4. So he's in 4 out of the 5 championship pictures.
Wow. I guess that's what I get for viewing on my phone.

Seems so damn petty.
I agree to a point, but familial betrayals are often the most painful - and that is what KG (and possibly Pierce) believe is what happened with Allen going to join Lebron and company. Publicly, everything about that team was family, brotherhood, team, ubuntu. They think Allen betrayed that and did it without even looking them in the eye as he left.

I thought I read somewhere that Pierce said he has pretty much forgiven Allen, and that they even chat every now and then. Pierce also mentioned that KG had a tougher time letting go, but he eventually reconciled with Allen.

Rondo organized the reunion event, and he obviously feels differently. But I believe the Celtics did invite Allen back for their look-back ceremony for the 2008 team.

I hope Jennings gets his own special chant tomorrow night.

I just looked him up. Makes me long for Karim Garcia. Marginal bit players should leave the mouthing off to people with talent. Oh, and get off my lawn.

What is strange is that most of the Wizards probably really like Pierce since he played for them two years ago.

Jennings later deleted the tweet and changed his tune after looking at Pierce's career longevity and stats. Of course this was after NBA Twitter killed him.

Yes, and soon he's going to be pimping literally anyone who touched a basketball for a farewell tour.

So, in the realm of great wing players of the post Bird/Magic era...

Tier 1: MJ, LeBron
Tier 2: Bird, Magic (not strictly a wing, but big enough to be one, plus needs to be on a tier with Bird)
Tier 3: Kobe, Wade, Durant, Kawhi, Pippen
Tier 4: Pierce, Manu, Harden, Drexler, Allen, Miller...

Something like that? Or does Pierce merit consideration on Tier 3?

There are so many names you can include on that list it's almost impossible to make. If you're making the list just on talent, you have to include guys like McGrady, Carter, Anthony, and Barkley among others. If you're going on career success (rings, I guess) and longevity, guys like Harden and Kawhi drop out. It's such a subjective list, but I wouldn't put Ginobli in the same category as Pierce since Pierce was a lot more talented and I'd rate him higher than Kawhi for now because Kawhi is so young. Where Pierce stands as an NBA great since 1990 would be a great debate.

Why is Wade a tier above Pierce?

I think Pierce and Kobe are both 1 tier lower than they should be, Kawhi is 1 tier too high, and no way do I include Manu. Never carried a team like the other guys on that list. May have been able to during his prime but we'll never know for sure.

I don't care how many rings he has, a dirty cheap-shot artist like Wade shouldn't be on any of those tiers.

No need to force Magic onto a list of wing players either. He's a PG and everyone knows he's awesome.

As noted by others McGrady and Carter belong on that list... I dislike him strongly but Anthony as well I guess.

I mean, Lebron and Jordan are/were de facto PGs much of the time too, so the distinction is at least somewhat arbitrary. Structurally, Magic + Scott (or Magic + Nixon) were not that different from Jordan + Kerr or LeBron + Kyrie.

It's basically the "you are what you can guard" rule of thumb. That's also why I consider 6'-4" Barkley and perimeter marksman Nowitzki big men while considering Durant and Bird (mostly) wings. (As far as I remember Chuck and Dirk rarely guarded smalls or wings, and rarely played alongside two big men).

Anyway, I was just throwing it out there as a conversation starter. Probably best to remove the positional distinctions altogether, as they always get blurry.

Remember when McDonald's MVP Jennings was supposed to be the shit?
You also don't get a farewell tour for being the McDs MVP.

That would have been the ultimate response to his tweet, but I didn't know that fact at the time and I don't use twitter either...

Wonder if we'll see Pierce at the garden soon. Is it uncouth for a recently eliminated player to slow up at his old team's venue for a playoff game? And root against a team he played for more recently (the wizards)

I feel like there's a good chance he and maybe KG make an appearance if they get to the ECF.

Hell, Monta Ellis was at the Warriors game last night (he allegedly was friendly with all the Warriors players except Steph) after his season ended a week or so ago and I have seen many former Warriors who currently play in the NBA at their playoff games over the past few seasons. I bet you are absolutely right. If the C's ever get to a game seven, you can best believe that Pierce will be there.

As a side note, isn't it a foregone conclusion that he will sign a one day contract with Boston once Free Agency begins and then retire a Celtic?

what's next for him? coaching? philanthropy? heckling lebron from the front row of every cavs game?

I know he's made some angel-style seed investments, so maybe he wants to squander invest his money and time in that direction.

I bet he'll have a role in the organization if he wants it. He'll also have opportunities in media. It all depends on whether he wants to take a break from the game.

can't find the tweet right now but i saw something this morning that said he wants to do the in-studio analyst thing
Yeah, he's starting immediately apparently--full-time gig. He should be an interesting listen if we get another Celtics-Cavs matchup in postseason.

I like the idea of Paul being kind of a color guy. He knows the game, he's charismatic and he comes across as "real" when he talks. Over the years with his stuff in the Players Tribune and some good one-on-one interviews and profiles I have found him to be pretty insightful.

Agreed. Since his turn as Finals MVP in 2008, in particular, Pierce has been one of the most interesting personalities in the NBA. The few times he was on camera for ESPN last year was impressive, and I look forward to watching his commentary.

It would be amazing if he joined Mike & Tommy on CSN broadcasts every now and then...

Good positive press for future potential FAs. The organization and fans need to treat Pierce like a king. He's a great story of persevering through adversity and eventually achieving ultimate success..

almost bought one for $240 5 minutes ago but couldn't pull the trigger. Mainly because I'll doubt I'll be here in the winter.

Saw a pair for $218+fees on stubhub 7 minutes ago.
