Count me as not a fan of the move if true. Loved the blue on blue and in general think the Pats should phase out the silver as much as possible. (I admit I'm a weirdo that wants to see flying elvis on a white helmet.) The only tweak needed from the 2020 unis imo were the stripes on the away shoulders, which should be blue red blue (or either of those colors but with white in the middle).

Those are the old jerseys - 2019 and prior. You can tell by the font. I think they just threw something together.

That said, they definitely need a silver pant option so that they don't wear blue every single game.

Just go back to the uniforms you went to 9 Super Bowls, and won 6 in. Permanently. You're the Celtics, MFY(and for that matter, Red Sox), Canadians now. An iconic franchise. You're not the fucking Jacksonville Jaguars, needing to re-brand every other year.

I still think they should just go back to the pre-90s helmet and color scheme, or something along those lines. The current logo is so "90s" in style that it ironically seems more dated than the older Pat Patriot logo. Other teams in other sports have made similar changes in recent years to move away from 90s-era "futuristic" logos that ended up just being cartoonish (for example the Astros and Rays in baseball, Warriors and Pistons in basketball, etc.)

I wish they would just use the traditional Red And Blue from the 60's through the 80's. I like the throwback Red Ones. The Jets went back to their traditional ones for a while and the Giants have done it permanently. And the Rams occasionally. I see no reason why our team can't.

That would be awesome. I could get behind going back to the 60's-80's style, with an alternate royal blue jersey in the same style thrown in the mix.

I thought that, because it's definitely the old color rush jersey (very similar to the 2020 jersey). But those pants aren't the old silver ones, I don't think - they look like they have a thinner stripe pattern. Hard to tell from that angle.

Very good point about the stripe pattern. In the old pants, the blue was very thick in the middle and the red was thin. The pants in the Twitter pic have much thicker red striping.

Like Saturday Night Live casts and popular music, you tend to love what you loved when you were between 15-25 or so and that locks in forever.

Which goes for me too. Give me Steve Grogan in a red jersey and white pants, with Pat Patriot on the helmet and I'm good.

In any event, I hate the dark blue pajama bottoms. Look too Ravensy.

I'm not a fan of the same color pant and jersey, (white over white is ok).

I really didn't like the Pat's recent blue on blue

heartache on heartache

Sorry

I like the old Pats logo too

I was a huge fan of the old Patriots uniform/Pat Patriot logo.

I was at the game when they showed the crowd the logo they were considering replacing Pat Patriot with; it was hideous and the boos drowned out that idea.

For some reason, I always liked the white on white with the white helmet.

Not sure why, but when they rolled out the throwback uniforms in a few games over the years, it fell flat with me.

I think a lot of it had to do with outside of that magical run that got them to their first Super Bowl, that uniform conjured up bad memories for me of heartache, disappointment and generally shitty teams.

I'd be ok with them going back to silver pants with the current jersey, then white with blue pants on the road, I really like that uniform.

Blue on blue is God awful.

I have this nagging feeling that the Patriots went all-dark-blue to gain an edge while camouflaging the football during option plays.

For instance, you may recall 49ers announcer Tim Ryan pointing out - and getting suspended for pointing out in an insensitive manner - the success Lamar Jackson has with camouflaging the football with the Ravens' all black uniform.

I do remember reading in Uni Watch that the Patriots originally were planning to keep the silver pants with their 2020 redesign, but decided not to at some point during the process.

I'm pretty sure the NFL has a fairly strict policy about uniform changes. Since the Pats just made a major change last season, it seems unlikely that they'd be making any significant change this year. I don't imagine different color pants is considered a significant change, but with the NFL you never know.

I'll always have a soft spot for the red, Pat Patriot unis. Especially since I grew up in Foxboro in the 80s. But honestly, I like the Flying Elvis, and it is the symbol of the greatest dynasty in modern sports history. I'm all for keeping it.

The throwbacks weren't exact replicas of the old unis, largely because they design shoulder stripes much differently these days. So they never really looked right to me.

They've actually worn different styles of throwbacks - the 2002 / 2010 Thanksgiving unis were different than the 2009 unis. The 2002/2010 unis have a blue outline around the numbers, and the shoulder pattern is white-blue-white. The 2009 unis dont have any outline around the numbers, and the shoulder striping is blue-white-blue

One home game a year and one away game w/the red/white and white/white would be just fine. The unis I hope to never see again were worn the last 5 or 6 seasons of the 90s, including all 3 Pete Carroll seasons.

The Pats did seem to change the stripes on the classic reds and whites quite often, as in the two TB photos.

The helmets were also a bit different in 2009, with the grey bars vs the white and IIRC the white of the helmet was a cream/off white, as opposed to a pretty clean white for 2002/2010. I thought the 2010 unis were better than the 2002/2010. I like the grey bars with the off white helmet best. Not a fan of same color helmet and bars and I hated the 1990-92 white Pat Patriot helmets with red bars, but that could have just been residual trauma from watching some of the worst teams in team history.

There was a version of the red jerseys sometime during the Grogan era that had the stripes down at the end of the sleeve instead of on the shoulder. Since they don't make shoulder stripes the right way anymore, those might be a good alternative.

I can’t emphasize how much I hate, hate, HATE the old Pat Patriot logo. The nostalgia for it is inexplicable to me. I hated it as a kid, I hate it now. It looks like a 1920’s editorial cartoon (Which makes sense, since Phil Bissell worked for noted rag The Lowell Sun).

I would mind going back to the red shirts, but keeping the newer logo.

I think you and I are going to be in the minority on this. I completely agree, and Pat Patriot brings back nothing but bad memories of the “lean” years. Ok there was one game in the new era that was ok, Pats vs Titans in the snow when the Pats won like 300-7

A strange one was the gray shirt. It was too light and when they played a bad weather game it looked like they were wearing their whites at home.

My affinity to the old unis has nothing to do with the logo, much more of a Flying Elvis fan. As far as merchandising goes, it doesn't sell worth a shit either.

I will fight all of you.

I think this has been mentioned before but the flaw of the old jerseys was that the main color was the same as the enemy of the team name/mascot. You can’t call the team Patriots then dress them like lobsterbacks/redcoats.

Use a simple navy blue design like they have now, make the helmet something other than white or off white with blue or white stripes instead, and make red an accent color like a Continental soldier uniform did.

I'd like to see a mockup of the 1985 Pats uniforms, but with the red and blue basically reversed. In my mind's eye, that's a cool look.

That always bugged me as a kid; why are they wearing red jerseys, the British wore red, not the Colonials.

From what I understand, the reason red was the primary color was due to the color flow of the American flag; "red, white and blue"...............red primary, white secondary, blue a distant third.

The AFL had mostly great uniforms; the Patriots, the Jets (which the Jets went back to then went away from recently), the Chargers (that light blue jersey/yellow pants/white helmet with yellow lightning bolts is tremendous), the Raiders silver and black, the Oilers had a nice uniform too, as did the Chiefs and the Bills.

The Broncos uniform has sucked for time and eternity, as has the Dolphins broken toilet of a uniform. Throw in the Bengals uniform too with the word "Bengals" on either side.

Just checking to see if y'all are aware of this and this.

I have Ebbets' 1960 Oilers jersey. It's beautiful. They're the best throwbacks in the game.

I’m one of the few who really likes the Pete Carrol-era late 90s “soccer” style royal blues. Distinctive sans serif font, cool sublimated stripes, good color balance. When they went to the Belichick/Brady design it was like going corporate. Can’t argue with the results, but I do miss that earlier period for what it was worth. Would love a throwback.

The shoulder stripes on the classic red Pats jersies used to be known as UCLA stripes.

As you can see from the photos posted, the length of the stripe on those jersies has changed over the years from all the way around to very short (and the current navies are the same way).

In my opinion, the longer the better. The real short ones at UCLA, the Colts and LSU ruined them in my mind. I think since they were at their worst they've all gotten a bit longer.

I get the arguments against the Pat Patriot logo (but I have to say I associate it with my first memories of football, falling in love with the sport, Doug Flutie, and the eternal disappointment of getting a Tony Eason Starting Lineup for Christmas, instead of Flutie) and can see the argument against the red unis if i squint, but this photo has made me realize something.

I hate the silver helmet. It doesn't belong in the Revolutionary/Patriotic color scheme, unless it is some reference to Paul Revere, and even that is not really reason enough with me. It just does noting for me. I actually got excited about the Flying Elvis on white helmet. Maybe that's all it needs to be, a better helmet color scheme.

That looks razor sharp on TB. He, as much as any QB I can remember, is fastidious about his uniform’s look. He‘s sure to have the right color handwarmer, etc. - it’s like Ralph Lauren (or Tommy Hilfiger) designed the outfit above and TB’s the model.

On the shoulder stripes - I prefer the shorter stripes as they don’t disconnect the sleeves from the torso. Also they better fit today’s smaller shoulder pads. That helmet/red jersey is a fantastic combo, so good that it could actually hold sway over the iconic dynasty uniform. I still have a strong preference for that iteration due to the dread it instilled in the rest of the NFL.

I‘ll concur with those posters on the old Oilers uni’s - they’re one of the best looks the NFL ever created.

You are spot on; that logo on the white helmet looks 1,000 times better than it does on a silver helmet.

They should 100% switch to that, silver is not a part of the uniform color any longer, so it should go.
