He's not elite, but he's pretty good. Better than what they currently have. Decent size, good speed, deep threat. 18.7 yards per reception last year, though that's a huge statistical outlier for him. 10.9 yards per target, so he gets downfield. Hoping he's not making huge money because I want them to add Bourne too.

From ProFootballNetwork.com:
Could Nelson Agholor find himself in New England?
The Patriots have struggled to acquire deep threats in recent years. Therefore, this could be a perfect landing spot for Nelson Agholor, who was tied for sixth in targeted air yards (15.3). He could be the piece that allows Cam Newton to open up this offense in New England. New England’s eyes may be on higher-profile free agents this offseason, but Agholor could be a mid-level option for the Patriots in free agency.

What is Nelson Agholor’s market value in free agency?
After essentially playing on the veteran minimum for the Raiders in 2020, WR Nelson Agholor is set to make plenty of money regardless of which landing spot he chooses.

Spotrac has compared Agholor to the likes of John Brown, Robby Anderson, Tyler Boyd, and Tyrell Williams. Those four have an average contract value of 3.3 years for $10.33 million per year. As such, Spotrac has Agholor projected for a two-year deal worth $9.7 million per year. That deal would put Agholor just outside the top 20 highest-paid players at the wide receiver position.

I see a FA article pegging him at 2 years/20M (Saints Rest beat me to it, thats the one).

We need a downfield threat and I like him enough, depending on the $ of course.

I don't have the stats to back this up but he has had a lot of high profile drops, I think. Maybe there's a coaching fix there.

Last 3 years, drop statistics...

Agholor:
- 2018: 97 targets, 3 drops
- 2019: 69 targets, 4 drops
- 2020: 82 targets, 5 drops
- TOT: 248 targets, 12 drops (4.8%)

Golladay:
- 2018: 119 targets, 4 drops
- 2019: 116 targets, 6 drops
- 2020: 32 targets, 2 drops
- TOT: 267 targets, 12 drops (4.5%)

Edelman:
- 2018: 108 targets, 8 drops
- 2019: 153 targets, 13 drops
- 2020: 39 targets, 3 drops
- TOT: 300 targets, 24 drops (8.0%)

Agholor doesn't seem to be particularly drop-prone, despite the reputation.

2/$26M. Can't call that much of a deal.

He got the vet minimum 1 yr deal from the Raiders last year, what a turn around for him.

Oof. If we were gonna get a "budget" deep guy I would have preferred John Brown.

Agree on Brown, but that doesn't make it an "oof". Just a matter of preference...doesn't make this a bad or cringe-worthy move.

Can we wait for the actual terms to come out before deciding if it's a good contract or not? People thought Cam was getting 14m at first too

do not like this move, too much money and he drops the ball too much. Not a fan at all.

Eyeball test only, but I watched a fair number of Raiders games last year and it felt like he was exactly the guy he was reputed to be; he'd be unstoppable for a quarter here and there, then have a bad drop or two, and then disappear.

Edit -- that statistic above saying he had only 5 drops all of last year seems awfully generous.

Eh, John Brown will be 31 this season. I would lack any enthusiasm about signing him as well. Agholor could be ~ok & hopefully those contract figures are distorted.

They must have gotten word that the Golladay, Samuel level was going to be out of price range.

If it is truly 13m per year fuck this deal. My guess is it is like 2/16, 8m gtd, and 10m in incentives. I doubt it is a full 2/26.

This is exactly what I thought and I guess hope is the case. If it turns out that Samuel, in particular, gets anything close to this deal I will be disappointed. Unless of course that deal is with the Patriots ;)

I don’t hate this, but I was really hoping for Samuel
I don’t think this necessarily precludes Samuel. Or a lower profile signing like Bourne. They’re different types of player and the cap space and need is still there

This reminds me a bit of the Wes Welker trade in that it seemed like Belichick valued the player more than the “experts” possibly based on how he performed against the Pats in the past. Agholor was open all day against the Pats in the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Seems pricy but who knows what the guarantees are, on the other hand he was an amazing deep threat last year. Been a long time since we had a guy that scared people down the field like he will.

Oh that’s a lot of coin wow
Agholor is a Z or slot receiver right? Not really a deep threat.
Agholor was a hell of a player for the Raiders and I am sad to see him go. I am also glad that the Raiders didn’t give him $13M/per. He was primarily a deep threat with the Raiders last year, so he will be able to fill that need for the Pats.

It’s an over pay, but I bet most of you are happy with it come December.

So the Pats now have a TE to join Edelman and Meyers in threatening the middle of the field, and a legit deep threat to take the top off the defense. Solid day of signings today.

Is there even room for a Samuel type now? Feels like they chose Bourne/Agholor over a Samuel type.

Eagles fan here.

The biggest knock on Agholor was not his drops (although he had a couple that were at really bad times and on big stages), but his inability to track balls in the air.

I don't think I've ever heard that issue discussed before Agholor.
