Wayne had 1355 receiving yards in 2012. He tore his ACL in Oct 2013 and tore his triceps in 2014. He is now 2 years removed from ACL reconstruction (better speed and cutting than last year) and 9 months out from surgery to repair the torn triceps (now able to fully extend his arms for passes).
His age is a factor, but I don't see the NEP handing out that contract for training camp fodder. If he can stay healthy in 2015 he could become a favorite possession receiver for TB.

For 2 of the guys you mentioned, Rice and Brown, you've got hall of fame level talent to begin with, so the drop off from there as old age creeps in would be less than some JAG who is aging.

Wayne has definitely been slowing down of late, but in a passing system like the Patriots' (assuming he can pick up the system), his sure hands / route running / knowledge of how to sit in a zone will absolutely play up. I see him playing something like a Jabar Gaffney role, catching ~40 balls for 500 yards. Nothing fancy, but when the alternative might be throwing a guy like Jonathan Krause out there, I'm happy with that. Assuming good health, there will be about 600 targets to share among the receiving options:
Gronk: 130-140
Edelman/Amendola: 175-200 combined
Running Backs: ~75
That leaves ~200 targets for the receivers and backup TEs. Most of the rest of that share of targets simply depends on LaFell's health. If he's out there, he'll get >50% of those; if not, Wayne will get a shot to be that 4th option in the passing game.

What confuses me about this pick-up is what routes does he run? Gronk, Edelman and Amendola all tend to operate in the same ares of the field that Wayne might want to be in. Add in Lafell (who often runs slants as well) plus either a second TE (Chandler or Hooman) and an RB (the Vereen replacement) and I just don't know where all these bodies end up.
