I took it to mean Guy might be gone.Does this mean Adam Butler is gone?
Me too - I think they come back with a new front 7. I like this signing a lot. They need DTs who can stop the bleeding with the run + they get younger there.I took it to mean Guy might be gone.
If Beau Allen finally gets healthy, we're in business.Me too - I think they come back with a new front 7. I like this signing a lot. They need DTs who can stop the bleeding with the run + they get younger there.
Not when you couldn't stop the run.Fills a position of need, but feels a bit expensive for a guy who is primarily a run stuffer?
I'm not saying he's a bad fit, or that the Pats don't need a guy like him, just that there are a lot of run stuffing DTs out there, many who likely end up getting less than $8 million per given cap challenges around the league. Godchaux has been a solid, but not spectacular player through his career thus far - is he that much of an upgrade over guys who will make $3-4 million next year? Not when you couldn't stop the run.
Belichick has signed plenty of guys in the 3-4 MM range to be run stuffers through the years, so clearly he does think there's something about Godchaux to make him worth twice that.I'm not saying he's a bad fit, or that the Pats don't need a guy like him, just that there are a lot of run stuffing DTs out there, many who likely end up getting less than $8 million per given cap challenges around the league. He's not getting $16M guaranteed, so thinking about what his cap hit is without knowing the specifics doesn't really get us anywhere yet.I'm not saying he's a bad fit, or that the Pats don't need a guy like him, just that there are a lot of run stuffing DTs out there, many who likely end up getting less than $8 million per given cap challenges around the league. Never would have guessed the guy handing out the contract thought he was worth it. Just saying from the outside, it strikes me as somewhat expensive for a guy who appears to be an above average run stuffing DT with no pass rush to speak of, that's all.Belichick has signed plenty of guys in the 3-4 MM range to be run stuffers through the years, so clearly he does think there's something about Godchaux to make him worth twice that.
Harris at the nose? He’s giving 20 plus pounds to most guys at that position, which is probably why Denver didn’t line him up there. Godchaux can play over center. If Shelby Harris - a better run defender who can also rush the passer - is only getting 3 years, $27 million then I certainly hope the base value for Godchaux is well below the stated 2 years, $16 million.
I'm not saying that Harris was an option for the Pats, just that he has a much more valuable overall skill set and signed for only $9 million/year which again makes me question the price tag for Godchaux. Kenny Golladay can't play TE, but if he signed for 5 years and $70 million I would question the value on the Jonnu Smith signing...Harris at the nose? Different varieties of apple we are talking about here.
There's not a ton of money to hide in a 2 year deal. I'm fully aware we don't know the details on contract structure which is why when making the comp to the Harris deal I specifically said "I certainly hope the base value for Godchaux is well below the stated 2 years, $16 million."You keep taking the AAV and assuming that’s actually what we’re paying. Do you think Tayson Hill is really getting $140M over next 4 seasons?
He only played 5 games last year. It would be easy to structure a deal with NLBEs based on roster bonuses. They can probably get this year's cap hit to under 5 million easily and have a decision to make next year. There's not a ton of money to hide in a 2 year deal. $9M vs. 14.4M in guarantees would make the same point though, $9M is a big guarantee for Godchaux. You keep taking the AAV and assuming that’s actually what we’re paying. Do you think Tayson Hill is really getting $140M over next 4 seasons?
They can certainly get the 2021 cap number down, my point was that you can't have a lot of fake money in a 2 year deal. If they cut him after next season, they will have paid $9 million for 1 year. More important than NLTBE incentives for cap purposes will be the actual performance based part of the deal.He only played 5 games last year. I can't argue with the jacket, but my guess is that that picture was taken in some generic mini-conference room at Gillette. I can't imagine Godchaux would have an enlargement of a wide shot of a sold-out Gillette, and a book called "Patriots United," in his house already, no matter how much he might have wanted to look like he was sucking up.Hopefully he can afford a new tailor. That jacket is wrong on like three different levels. And I'm not happy about the red, but that seems to be an intentional choice, so god bless.
And then maybe an interior designer.
Clearly he's 100% focused on football, just the way Belichick likes it.
Yes, Mills or one of the other FA signings had a pic from the same room.I can't argue with the jacket, but my guess is that that picture was taken in some generic mini-conference room at Gillette. That's how much Covid has changed my life, that I just assumed the contract signing was remote.Yes, Mills or one of the other FA signings had a pic from the same room.
Like James White, obviously he just wanted to play with Brady over BBView: https://twitter.com/DougKyed/status/1374741113194569728?s=20
Again, it just sucks that nobody will sign with the Pats now that Brady is gone...
Gonna have to do something about that "arguably" B.S. He'll learn. He'll learn.View: https://twitter.com/DougKyed/status/1374741113194569728?s=20
