I loved Lee coming out of USC. He's just never been able to stay healthy (2 healthy seasons in 5 years). If (HUGE If) he stays healthy, he's a big upgrade over the Byrd, Meyers, Gunner contingent.

Lee is super talented - He just can't seem to stay healthy. Good, cheap Pats type pickup.

WTF is Schefter's problem? "Trade a TE, land a WR" seems like a shot, but it's incredibly stupid.

Great low-risk signing (depending upon the guarantee), and I don’t think analogous to some of the veteran WR references here. Lee is young and talented, just hasn’t been able to stay on the field. Different from 8th inning Galloway/Wayne/Ocho/Demaryius etc. in my opinion.

Why would you think signing a flyer health guy means cutting the 2nd best WR on the roster?

Gunner is probably toast though, since he already was going to have a tough road assuming they grab at least 1 WR in the draft
Gunner is apprentice-in-training for when Edelman leaves, similarly when he was the apprentice when Welker was here.
I think it's bad news for stockholders of Byrd and Sanu.

306, row 14
I mean, Gunner played 79 snaps in 8 games, 50 of which came in the Giants game when they were down to like 2WR. Calling him an apprentice or whatever is pretty crazy.

I think Gunner was more of a “cheap guy to fair catch punts” than an “apprentice-in-training” for when Edelman leaves. But, I could be wrong. Many people are sometimes wrong, so I could be, or maybe I’m not.

Except Edelman was good, Gunner is a special team's player.

Belichick likes to try to shore up gaps in his roster before the draft. He does this often. By doing so, he has more freedom to draft based on the player's value regardless of the position he plays instead of being forced to draft a lesser player who happens to play at a position of need. This does not mean that he will not draft a wide receiver if one becomes available. Just means he has better positioned his team to have the flexibility to react to the draft as it unfolds.

I think the greater point people are making is that Pats fans should temper any expectations, because these low risk dice rolls at WR have tended not to amount to anything. Which isn't all that surprising, considering they're available as low risk dice rolls for a reason. Not all of them were old vets on their last legs either. Corey Coleman, Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt, Dontrelle Inman, Maurice Harris, just to name a few off the top of my head.

Isn't the book on Lee that he is physically talented, but maybe not the best route runner or the like? It's a flier signing and a perfectly fine one. Not sure we should expect him to make the roster or an impact. Rolling several dice is better than one, so good move.

Yeah, but that's because Brady was too demanding.

With Lee, I think it's due to him tearing his ACL, MCL and PCL in the 2018 preseason. That's a tough one to come back from and he was just a shell of himself in 2019. Another year removed, we'll see where he is. The 2016 and 2017 versions of Lee would be WR2 on this team, no question in my mind.

I was just responding to the thought that New England would have a walking injury case returning kicks.
