Good player. He's been under appreciated for a long time. We have our 2017 version of Chris Long folks.

Even outside of the J-E-T-E schadenfreude, I love this signing. Harris was always a player that I respected. Plus he addresses an area of concern on our team. This is a win-win-win.

This is fucking great. I have so many Jets fan friends who are going to react really well to this too. Buckle up, going to be a fun season.

Fuck the Jets. This is a great signing for our team. Depth, potential 2-3 down player, can take the dot.

High and Harris will absolutely teach Elandon a few things.

I dunno, he's 33, seems like the Pats sign one of these guys every year who used to be a star on a rival team (Lynch, Wayne, Knighton, etc.) and they end up getting cut.

Not that it makes a big difference in NFL, but weren't they all 1 year deals? This is a 2 year deal. Why sign a guy to a 2 year deal if he's just fodder?

This. Love this signing to bolster an area that needs strengthening.

Can see the fit. No idea how much gas he has left in the tank and we probably won't know until preseason games.

The 2nd year is almost certainly a benefit to the Patriots, not to the player.

EDIT: Maybe too strong, and "very likely" is more accurate, but Im thinking the second year is going to be for peanuts so if he plays well they have him for another cheap year. Sort of like when they signed Blount midseason in '14.

This is a two year deal and he clearly can continue to play and the Jets cut him based on salary and not poor play. I think both of those factors should be considered. Additionally, those players didn't make it on one year deals with the Pats but Long, Freeney, Lafell, Browner etc. all made it. There is a precedent for both.

LB was the only area on the roster where I thought the Pats might be a little thin. This helps cover that up. And it's got to be a kick in the nuts for Jets fans, which never loses its charm.

Score again.

What an offseason.

I agree totally. Fits a need. Quality player.

That it's also a kick to the Jets' jewels is a lovely bonus.

the interior of the offensive line is a little iffy...

What's Mangold got left in the tank?

It was a little of both. Thought was he couldn't stay on the field on 3rd down so why pay 6.5? He rejected a pay cut. Makes sense for him to ring chase if he is going to take a pay cut and not stick with the circus. I think he'll make the team. I'm happy for him, he was a hell of a player for the Jets.

So happy with the signing. With his leadership, it's a terrific addition even if he does not contribute as much as some hope.

A NYJHoF (if it existed, amiriight?) wears a Pats jersey for a run at a SB title. Couldn't have wished for a better offseason.

Great, experienced, smart, full-effort, player for the teams weakest position? Sign me up. And that's before the TGG sf

Love this signing--steady, heady, and talented guy who was productive last year and will be very hungry for a ring.

The Jets fan comments I have seen are frankly even more depressing (or hilarious depending on your view) than extreme anger would have been...basically mostly anger at the Jets for letting him go in the first place and lots of "good for him, at least he has a chance for a ring now." Shades of Ray Borque...

In Bill we Trust, but let's hope this is more Chris Long-like and less Shaun Ellis-like. Worth it for the TGG reaction thread, though.

New Patriot LB David Harris got a two-year, $5 million deal. Up to $1.75 million in incentives. $1.25 million guaranteed.

Still need more details as to the exact breakdown, but here's some early info

The Patriots rotate so many defensive lineups during a game that I wouldn't think that Harris will be expected to play as much as he did with the Jets. Unless he's actually over the cliff, they'll use him to accentuate what he has left

10 Years too late. I loved him coming out of Michigan and may have even said so on a thread here abouts. Was bummed when the J-E-T-S got him.

Seems like he can still play and the contract doesnt seem to hurt to bad.

Bring on the regular season!

Having Hightower and Harris on the field together in passing situations would be ... sub optimal. Unless they are using some variation of a zone blitz and dropping Ninkovich and letting Hightower rush, and even then they are sacrificing speed, mobility, and athleticism in coverage.

Will Harris let them play some base 3-4 on 1st and 2nd downs? Or is he REALLY good depth in case of a Hightower injury and a run situation player only?

They cut Hightower's workload down the stretch last year and have cut back, in general, on front seven playing time for starters since 2015 when Nink and someone else had like the two highest snap counts in the league by a mile. Could be they want to keep going down that road this year with Hightower and Harris can play a series or two a game.

At least they're men of principle:

"Good for David Harris but as a man I'd rather never win a ring at all, than to chase one with the (already) defending champs. Especially a career rival at that."
"As a man when I'm let go by MySpace despite stellar performance I'd rather never work at all than accept Facebook's job offer."

Meh. The Jets don't even qualify for Friendster status. At best they're four clicks down a shitty GeoCities webring.

Loved the player. Also really liked the way he's always worn his facemark low. Kickass look for a middle linebacker.
