Been watching some of his tape on YT. I don’t have a refined eye like some here do when it comes to film study, but he looks like he struggles to shed his blocker and still needs to develop quick-win moves. I saw a lot of 4-5 second drop backs leading to coverage sacks. He doesn’t seem to get low enough to get underneath the blocker.

I don’t know. He didn’t seem overly explosive off the line. High-motor, but takes a while to get to the backfield IMO.

I could be wrong and I hope I am.

He's new to defense, he's gonna be raw. So everything from anticipating the snap, to technique, etc is still a work in progress with him. I think even he acknowledged that.

Apologies for going AWOL the last couple of months. Moved cross-country. Very much looking forward to coming up to Boston for a Pats game this year.

Two things stood out to me last night.

1) His play-speed and recognition improved from college. That's huge.
2) He trimmed some of the sloppy weight he had and is still strong. He stood up a double team vs the run. That's phenomenal and an issue Wise has had. White dominated the run.

I don't want to overreact but I loved White coming out and he looked better last night vs NFL players than he did in college and improved in the two areas I had concerns about pre-draft!

Fuck it, it is optimism season, right? This young man is going to be a stud.

No need to apologize. You did the responsible thing and moved AFTER the draft.

Yeah, my biggest cause for concern with White was, despite the combine testing numbers, he wasn't particularly twitchy or explosive at Georgia Tech. He was both last night.

(I'll also add Anfernee Jennings showed the most twitch/explosion I've seen from him since before tearing up his knee at Alabama)

Yeah - 100% agree with you. What a fantastic group of edges they have!

I did that on purpose. I am not lying. Did my son being in high school also have something to do with it? Yes. But priorities.

I still can't believe White lasted until pick 46. He was invited to the 1st round, he has all the size and measurables you want, he has versatility, he is all business, smart, a hardworker... Crazy.

I am excited with the talent all along the D-line, especially paired with the edge rushers. If you dont have an elite quarterback, having a nasty set of Defensive lineman will usually guarantee you aren't out of many games.

This defense could be a menace.

Keep in mind folks that Lane Johnson gave up 8 or 9 pressures ALL of last season. No hits. No sacks. And White in a situational role got 2 pressures off him.

White, Gonzalez, Mapu - what a group of picks in the same draft.
Plus Douglas had 4 catches in 7 targets, Sow and Mafi started on an OL that kept Mac fairly clean. And if the field were an inch wider, we would be talking about Boutte too.

Man is a house. I know that he was seen by some as an Edge guy, but he really can take the whole pocket with him. Explosive and powerful. Big fan.

Both specialists and Douglas are also looking strong.
And Mafi and Sow seemed pretty good yesterday as well.
Yep. Looks like one hell of a draft so far. Even Boutte showed potential. Yes he needed to get his feet down but you can't look at him and not think, ok, there's something there. OBVIOUSLY it's super early. But the very early returns are tremendous.

Just for perspective, Keion White is half way in size between Chandler Jones and Ty Warren coming out of college. ~20# either way, all three around 6'5". Look at that speed tho. Yikes. Good on you guys who were high on this kid.

edit: and Keion did three more reps of #225 than Ty.

Seemed like both him and Uche were used very situationally yesterday. I believe both had snap counts in the 30% range (which for Uche has been pretty typical for his career), and I can only assume this was by design to make sure they had guys who could break down better if Hurts decided to run.

Against Tua, I think we may see more of each guy next week.

Makes sense.

edit: FWIW, I hope that White starts stealing more of Judon's snaps. I didn't watch as closely as some of the savants here, but White seems to maintain much better contain in his rushes and has all of the east to west speed needed to chase guys. For every time Judon spikes a QB, it seems like there are two times when a tackle holds him and up pushes him inside while the QB waltzes down his side for 8 yards.
